Still the old SeaMonkey I know & love been using it since day 1 & I'm now using a 64bit build of the browser with the only downfall being there's no sync service available, I've heard that this issue may be solved In a future release which Is fantastic I have too many passwords which I have to remember & It can be annoying.

This has been my Default Browser forever! Definitely The Best!!!! It amazes me how many IT people have asked me over the years what browser are you using.... Though because K-Meleon finally released a new version (which is fastest browser, period), I switch between both.

Autocomplete in URL bar used to be laggy and now it's instant and I'm on 7200RPM HD. I primarily use SM as opposed to Firefox because I like the simplicity of the UI. Works nice and fast now thanks to OMTC.

One of the last few browsers for intelligent people, refuses the way what Google wants other browsers to go - instead it stays feature rich, customizable!

No Google, forcing other browsers to become a Chrome clone to gain the users is not working 100%!

Rock solid as usual. I came upon the add on converter in the Mozillazine forum. And i was able to bring 4 add on's that only worked in firefox, but not in Seamonkey, over to here. Like allot of users, i'm dumping Firefox for Seamonkey. I always had Seamonkey, but kept Firefox as my main browser. Not anymore.

Many thanks for the add-on converter- a great find and a life-saver! I detest the latest Firefox versions and the new abominable GUI but I haven't switched yet completely to SeaMonkey because there are some indispensable for me add-ons which do not work with SeaMonkey. The converter you recommended did the job well with some of the add-ons incompatible with SeaMonkey, so I have no more reasons to keep to Firefox. Thank you!

Before I ever tried using Firefox, I was a Seamonkey user. And we're talking back in the early 2000s when it wasn't even called Seamonkey. It's been the simplest suite to use that has both Thunderbird and Firefox under the hood.

Some folks say you can't use a lot of Firefox extensions or add-ons with Seamonkey. Yes, this is true. But, there is a new tool (addonconverter.fotokraina.com) that might be of use if you find yourself with an add-on that won't act right or install.

Overall, this version is very responsive as compared to 2.26.1. Much of the speedups from Firefox are present here with none of the new Firefox UI. It's hard to say how long Seamonkey is going to be maintained but in the meantime, I dig it.

I have to backtrack concerning my first review. I'm giving it, actually, a 4.5 out of 5. After using SeaMonkey for a couple of days, tweaking it and adding a few extensions, I found it to be quite good and in some ways better than the new FF. I wish there was a form filler extension. One extension that adds some nice touches is "Seafox" from Add-ons.

As Australis is unbearable and as Firefox developers are doing their best to drive users away from Firefox, Seamonkey is one of the few alternatives. The GUI is excellent but the only one but big problem is that many Firefox add-ons do not work with Seamonkey.

Whats old, is new again. What can I say. Firefox is dead. version 29 has me back using Seamonkey full time. Shame most younger users don't know of this great old classic. Simple classic user interface. Most important add ons like adblock work. Plus, the classic email client to boot. My vote for best browser, once again.

There's not a browser out there that's a five star, but the closest to a five star rating is FireFox. Seamonkey surely does not rate a five. first of all it's no faster than FF. Importing favorites is difficult. I had to use the XMarks extension. Very few extensions work on Seamonkey, not even Gmail, as I'm not a Thunderbird fan. Appearance is fairly awful. If you're into nostalgia I guess the themes you can add-on would be ok, as they are ancient.

In conclusion, it's a fairly good browser that does nothing that is in any way, exceptional. Truly nothing to get excited about.

Firefox 27 is under the hood but I notice a heck of a speed increase on rendering page. I'm a fan of the Modern theme and hope they don''t Australis the crap out of Seamonkey because tablet UI lameness is *not* the wave of the future. Look at what happened to Netbooks. 'nuff said.

Being that I used to use Firefox and Thunderbird, I long since switched to Seamonkey because it's basically both products in one. This beta is fast, fast, fast and incorporates what's in Thunderbird 23 and Firefox beta 4. The speed improvement is great and welcome. Keep 'em coming Mozilla.

A marked improvement over the 1st beta. Not crashing on me and it is noticeably faster than 2.14. One way I can tell is when I am logged into my eBay account. If I click on items the Activity Summary (Buy, Lists, Sell), they open smoothly and fast. Previous versions would lag, stutter or just not look fluid. Rendering is near instant now and I'm using an ancient Latitude D610. Suck on that Chrome. Some real good stuff coming up in version 2.17 (a.k.a Firefox 20).

Well, I hate to write a bad review but this version was crashing on me left and right and I have to go back to 2.14. I think it might be related to hardware accel but I am going to wait a few betas and see if it is a regression or bug that gets fixed. Can't use it right now. Speedwise, it seems even faster than 2.14.

I've used Seamonkey since the early 2000s and continue to used it for it's integrated mail and browser suite. Sine it's basically Firefox and Thunderbird rolled into one, you don't need a separate version of Firefox or Thunderbird if you have Seamonkey. By the way, I think this is *supposed* to be point to Seamoney 2.6 BETA4, not BETA3. Oops?

This program has always been my favorite browser email combo.
But,,,, with that being said.....
Has anyone else had trouble clearing private data?
When I clear everything but passwords it brings up Adobe reader and then everything stops responding.
That is the only problem I have had.
It also took place on my machine when Firefox 4 was released but the problem for Firefox has disappeared only to show up again with Seamonkey 2.1
I uninstalled this version and went back to Seamonkey 2.14 and everything is fine, the problem is gone.

This is a final release. And its great. Been testing this for awhile. Been my primary browser since 2.1 beta 2. Version 2.0 series was starting to show its age with compatibility probs with allot of sites I use. I saw on a forum yesterday that the final was coming today. Good job by the team maintaining this through the post Netscape and Mozilla years. Shame it doesn't get the respect of the other popular browsers, though as a brother of Firefox, which I also use, I don't see the reason to use any other browser than Seamonkey and or Firefox. Still like the email client also. Which i def. prefer over the webmail my ISP gears u to. I would really recommend this browser to anyone who remembers the Netscape years - look and feel wise - to give this a chance..

cltx99 although you raise a very good point it's actually better that a browser is underloaded with extensions when I was using FF I needed 8 extensions for things I wanted to do during browsing, However with SeaMonkey I only need 2 extensions & I've been testing SM since beta 1 & it's been very stable & having less extensions is actually one of the reasons I like this application suite.

Seamonkey is a very good and stable browser. Once I got it synced with FF and got my bookmarks in place, I had a good time bouncing around websites. Page rendering and speed were very good. However, whereas Chrome and FF are overloaded with extensions, many of which are impractical, the Monkey is sorely underloaded with practical extensions and that's a bit of a drawback.

An excellent web-browser. I started using SeaMonkey some time ago because it retains the composer feature of netscape but in the end I did not use that much (!), although, ever since, I have used SeaMonkey as my main browser on several machines, mainly because it is less quirky / annoying / baffling than IE, and is less red than Mozilla / Firefox (;-o)

I just love my Sea Monkey. It's my favorite.
And the email function is simply the best.
The only problem I have is with streaming video.
When trying to look at TV episodes online it freezes up after 5 minutes or so.
I try the same show using IE-8 or FireFox & it does fine.

Love my Seamonkey! - with Adblock Plus, Flashgot (& Orbit) for downloads, googlebar, pipelining enabled, and tweaked with CB mozilla optimizer it's fast & has everything I want to hand when I need it like no other browser (though the very excellent Orca Browser comes pretty close).

Still running 1.1.18, though, since the Dev team dropped the 'Classic' theme in SM2 for some unfathomable reason. Why???

It just goes to show you how ignorant you are. I hate web mail and I organize my email into hundreds of sub-folders and dozens of email filters which Seamonkey2 only partially imported. I have 8 email address that download into my email client and I have thousands of email addresses in my offline Address Book.

I also am painfully aware and my point exactly, the developers of of SM are too few and are too enamored with their ability to write code and maintain servers than to make a seriously good browser that works more than it fails. After hearing that they were not going to allow importing from SM1 after the initial release, I decided time was up!

I spent the weekend importing into Firefox and Thunderbird and with a few exceptions I am very happy with the result, (and yes they are not perfect, but much, much, much closer).

No more waiting endlessly for updates that don't happen. No more waiting and waiting for solutions to problems that in many cases I will never see because they are fixed prior to release instead of discovering them after release. And Finally no more only getting security fixes (SM1) when major fixes needed to be made that aren't addressed in SM2 and with their track record never will. Besides many websites don't work with SM2 and they will not correct them to make them work. I am left with having to ask for help with CSS and even then it is on a per web page basis, and why should they when they do work in Firefox which is 3 years or a lifetime ahead of SM2, and just about to release another major release.

When I say that I have been using Mozilla products since the early days. I mean it. I used the Mozilla client and then moved to Nestcape and then back to the Mozilla client that became Seamonkey-- religiously. I was always a supporter but I never could find anyone willing to talk with me except one time when I submitted a bug in bugzilla. I was told it was in the wrong place, but instead of getting help, they dumped it and told me to start over (never even telling me what I did wrong). Years after that I got 2 replies from Robert Kaiser after a year of waiting for a response to a polite request about SM1 and after responding to my direct email he went in to my request and promptly closed it and said we are not going that way. Since then I asked him for help about not getting help in the forum and all he said was, "he was too busy to go to the forum and get help there". OK, I do get being busy, but sending me back to the place that I didn't get help in the first place without even acknowledging my problem...

I also have helped other software developers improve their programs and so don't think I only complain. But yes, if I get nowhere with something that could be great with a little help instead of mediocre then I do my best to keep coming up with ideas and encourage. But you ignore me and refuse to help me, then you get nothing, if you aren't worth it and flames if you are.

There are a huge amount of problems reported in the forum and I even gave some points on work arounds, myself. I also made a number of detailed suggestions and got NO response on anyone of them.

However, I gave up after I got no response to no fewer that 3 requests for help migrating.

No I am on to better things. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME and download the stable and inventive Firefox and Thunderbird instead. (Even if they are separate programs, I have only seen the need one time for combined programs, but having to open a 2nd program that works is well worth it).

You are COMPLETELY off track. SeaMonkey is now developed by FEW developers where:

IE has over 300 people in its development team
Fx, Safari, Opera and Chrome have over 70 people in their development teams.

Stop whining and use something else if you don't like SeaMonkey's approach which many people prefer over stand alone browser and stand alone mail client. I also bet that you only use a web mail, so you don't need SeaMonkey at all.

This software is outdated and miles behind most current browsers. The developers do not help people fix their problems but instead rely on other users to do it with very mixed results. I have asked for help over and over again and again but the only response I got was a question that related to why I did something but no one responded to my urgent question on passwords and other issues.

Skip this one and go to Firefox and Thunderbird. I will be moving all 15 years of collected stuff over the long break in December.

It is sad because all the work is really for naught when you have to manually copy your email and some settings while other things won't work no matter how hard you try. I have been using Mozilla since the days of early Mozilla Suite and Netscape, but when a product is tired and years behind the competition and only have a very small community that still cares about this product then they will never have the time to make it what it needs to be to compete.

Arrogance and lack of ability has made this software a dinosaur.

Well SeaMonkey RC2 is here which is fantastic seeing that they released RC1 on October 10 I've tested SM during the Beta stages & I've had no issues what so ever during testing I have found it to be the most stable browser out there, I don't know when the final release is going to be but all I can say is that it's going to be worth the wait.

Gave this a couple days of browsing to see if any probs popped up. So far nothing. Runs fast. Adblock and a few other key add on's work which is important. Also got a 93 on that acid test website. Highest of any browser I have tested so far. Looks like this is ready for the final release. Def. a keeper if you like the browser/email client combo.

I have tried all the Mozilla based browsers & I have always come back to SeaMonkey which I've been using since day 1 & it's good to see this application suite is still being developed, The default theme has a refreshing new look to it & as for performance & features it just keeps on getting better & with my favorite feature which is RSS feeds everything I want & needs is in this one handy application.

If your tired of FF or any other browser you may be using then give SeaMonkey a try you won't be disappointed.

Oh dear,
i downloaded this just purely out of nostalgia. Once i installed it and had it running i remember why it was dumped for Firefox.
The interface is *horrible* and general usability is backwards. Cntrl+enter opens a page in a new window.....yuk
Still it actually comes up with less errors than Ffx on acid 3. So i guess it's not all bad.
I'll stick with Opera. This SeaMonkey should be allowed to die with dignity and live in our memories as we remember it not as it is now where it can be compared to the others which are way out ahead.

Given this a few days of test. Pretty solid. Besided a couple web sites that seem to want firefox or IE to work, no problems. Like the last few versions of 2.0 I have tried, theres the add on issue. But after trying Chrome and Safari, I will settle for my few that work, compared to the lack of features in those browsers. That issue with those problem sites not working is a problem that should be addressed. Than this would be a 5 on my rating system. But very few sites fall into that cat.

Try viewing a video on You Tube & see if it works in SeaMonkey. The last time I tried this browser I had trouble viewing some video on several sites on the web along with you tube.

I'm familiar with Seamonkey. But I don't understand what the point is. How is SeaMonkey better than Firefox 3.1 + Thunderbird 3.0b1?

s the HTML Editing and the chat client actually compelling enough to want to use this? Otherwise, what's the point? I encourage people rating this to state -why- this is their choice... which I feel that no one really has stated clearly.

I have never tested a Alpha version before but I thought I'd give it a try & I must say that SM 2 performs much better than the current 1.1.12 & I was really surprised to see that most of my extensions work with this Alpha release, I really hope that SM 2 will give Firefox a run for it's money as this application suite has been under rated for far to long.

Worked good. Pages rendered ok. Speed was great. Not ready to upgrade from 1.1.12 because of the add on issue. Only got adblock plus to work. Tried even some firefox add on's to see if some of them worked. Read somewhere that this new version would make it easier to do that. Well none of my firefox add on's worked either. If you use the current seamonkey with no add on's that this version is just fine.

All I can say is thank god for SeaMonkey I have tried Firefox 3 & the bugs I have had in the browser is terrible, I know that this version was a little bit slow in coming out but it was the same with Firefox. I find this browser really fantastic because I have a home business so I get a lot of e-mails so it saves me from having to open a separate e-mail client.

If you are sick of the hype that Firefox 3 is generating & your not happy with it I highly recommend SeaMonkey & anyway what have you got to lose.

This is great software. I've found that the classic theme is quicker loading pages than using the modern.
The only thing that bugs me is that some video formats open a new page & then Winamp pops up as usual for my videos but nothing shows up.
I have the latest Winamp and it's set for all formats. IE-7 and Maxthon has no problem with it.
I noticed this oddness in the Firefox 3 also.
At least Ad block plus works with this version & I'm thankful for that. It's also nice to have a Netscape like version of an email client back again that works.

No doubt but developing apps is a full time job, it's a lot of work. Open source often times means that apps will be infrequently updated unless they are popular (i.e. bit-torrent clients).

Working fantastic for me I tried Firefox 3 but I found that the updating of live bookmarks was very aggressive which cased the browser to cease up but not crash, This release of SeaMonkey seems more stable compared to 1.1.9 which tended to crash sometimes on my system.

Man, development on this product sure has slowed to a trickle. But I'm glad they produced this security update, and I hope they can get 2.x out soon, because I do think this suite of apps is and has been a great product.

BTW, I can not seem to find any full-resolution screen shots of the product, even on their main site. I'd like to see some of what the default skin looks like, so I hope they update their site to provide that.

This version is just a security update. Like they do for Firefox. The 2.0 series is in testing. I've tried it. Not too stable and most of my add on's dont work for that version yet. With less developers in its area, Seamonkey will take time before the 2 version hits the street.

Working great as usual. As long as my few add on's come over and work, than i'm a happy camper. For the google programmers out there a small request- You have an add on to add a text message button to the toolbar for sending text messages to people. Only works with Firefox. Make it available to Seamonkey and that would be great.

I tried Firefox - Too slow & system hungry

I also tried k-meleon - Unstable & difficult too customize.

I gave Opera a shot but I also found that difficult too customize.

IE I will not even touch that's evil & an insult too the web browser world.

Thank god there is a browser like SeaMonkey out there too save the day it has everything I want & all in one handy application suit, It's fast nothing fancy easy too customize and is kept up too date regularly. If you have tried all the browsers out there & not one has impressed you then give SeaMonkey a try & see what you think.

I used Mozilla from 2000 until 2005 when I found out work was stopping on it. Since then, I've been using FF and TB but I've just got fed up of having two apps that (1) don't talk to each other and (2) require individual attention. Plus SM definitely loads faster than FF. I just tried it and FF took twice as long - it is a bit bloated with extensions but then again so is SM now. Welcome back Moz...SeaMonkey!

Defaults to AOL? Its the same good old Seamonkey. Its just a security update. You can't install this over older Netscape versions. Thats what you did. There is nothing AOL with this install. Is it the best browser out there? Depends on what features you want. And no, theres very little speed difference between all the major browsers nowadays. Plus, my favorite complaint is always the memory hog problem. Like anyone ever has that problem.

Works good, just like past versions. Firefox does have more extensions, but just as an fyi, some extensions that say firefox only do work with Seamonkey. One i'm using now is called dictionary search. Works fine with Seamonkey. So something to try.

As a long time (and happy) Opera user, I really wasn't expecting anything to come close.

I'm surprised - as a first time users - to be saying that SeaMonkey matches and, in some respects, beats Opera.

Yes, I know they are both Mozilla based, so should be approximately the same in operations/speed, but as I say, there are some factors making me like SeaMonkey a little more - such as the plugin architecture.

It would be nice, as others have mentioned, if there were more plugins available, but hey ho you can't have it all I suppose.

I recommend at least giving it a whirl - it's certainly nowhere near as bad as IE, easily matches Opera and, as I said, in some ways exceeds Opera.

A SeaMonkey update so soon It's great to see that the developers are working hard to make this Internet application suite even better, I have tried going back to Firefox but it dose not feel the same after using SeaMonkey.

To the person who gave SeaMonkey a 1 there is a need for a browser like SeaMonkey because some people like myself like everything within the one application, I was a Firefox fan for a while but you have to be so careful when it comes to installing extensions on that browser because it can become very slow and buggy it's not funny.

I have over 5 extensions installed on SeaMonkey & it's way faster than Firefox & there is quite a large community working on the project, I have been using this suite for many years now & I have even installed it on our computer at work.

To say that there is no need for a browser like SeaMonkey is just plain stupid, If you are going to write things like that then explain why you could say the same thing about Opera, Flock & K-Melon.

Just a security update. Everything went well. I guess theres no way to ever make this a bad product unless it starts slowing down or they take out some features. I just wish more programmers out there were into this browser to bring more add on/extensions like Firefox. The few i would like to see are, A full screen button option for the navigation bar. A sidebar button on one of the toolbars. Similar to what was in the Netscape 7 series. Maybe also add a few more themes as options compared to the 2 basic ones. I wish Firefox did that also. Thats about it.

This is simply the official continuation of the original Mozilla suite, if I understand correctly.

It is not new - it was around long before Firefox and Thunderbird. It is something that those of us who want a more full-featured, well-rounded set of internet apps can appreciate.

Note - it also includes a solid Web Page Authoring tool, which I'm glad they still have in there. It is pretty nifty for a freebie.

Not as bug-free as I would like, and development seems to be pretty slow, but I am glad it is here and it does work pretty well.

monzi, this is an all-in-one suite that has functionality that Firefox and Thunderbird don't offer, and is compatible with many extensions.

Some people prefer the old Mozilla skin and want everything in one app, it uses the same Gecko engine so it's just as secure and renders as fast.

These are five reasons why is SeaMonkey my favorite browser.
I have also installed IE7,Opera 9.21 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.3.Sure,they are great,each of them has itsown advandages,but also weak points.
IE7-it has security leak problems(ActiveX expecially)and if you want to make it 99% secure,you will pay the price for it with lower speed.
Opera 9.21-security isn't an issue,not even speed.But small number of adds-on(around 8 I think) and extensions(they're called widgets) limit you many times just too much.
Mozilla Firefox 2.0.3-well secured with many options for adds-on (plugs-in) and extensions,but slower than Opera and SeaMonkey.Well famous memory leak can really many times be an issue.
Well,I really hope that someday these problems will dissapear and that we'll be able to choose between four flawless browsers.But 'till then Mozilla SeaMonkey remains my browser of choice.

Great Browser. Been using 1.1 since Nov. No problems. I've been downloading the nightly builds once a week just to keep up with changes, and its still solid. I have FF and IE. But use Seamonkey 90 percent of the time. I would say my main reason for sticking with this old netscape relative, is mainly the email client. Not so much thats its part of the browser but just the client itself i like. Features like the bcc button and the way it handles the address book i like better than Thunberbird or Outlook express. Also, to the previous reviewer, this is not a beta, its a final release. Previous listings of Seamonkey listed here in betanews listed that it was beta. Not in this version.

The reason why we need SeaMonkey is obvious and simple and will let others make further comments but I will reply as to the who ask's: Why run SeaMonkey? Simple answer this is a better browser for what I want to do with it and what others want to use it for also. It is fast and is like what Netscape "used to be".
Each person to there own but bug off on saying why is it needed. I have no use for FF myself.
So if you put that into perspective there are die hard users of SeaMonkey that do not care if FF exists.

Mozilla Suite (now SeaMonkey) is a comprehensive solution. The browser has more built in features than FireFox and the web page maker is very cool.

They are two different products. You want lean and mean and stripped down so it runs super fast and you can add extensions as you see fit - try FireFox. You want pretty much an all-in-one with a more robust feature set? This is the answer.

That said, development needs to speed up, imo. These small incremental updates are kind of annoying. Let's get the thing back on track, ok devs? :)

Why have both Firefox & Seamonkey, It's confusing alot of people out there. They're all good, but don't we just need one Moz Browser?

I was a user of the former Mozilla application suite and it's great to see that the all in one suit is being continued under a new name, This browser is much faster than Firefox 2 in the test that I have undertaken. I am using Firefox & even with a tweak extension installed SeaMonkey still tends to run faster I guess that can be put down to the program being installed in the system's memory for faster loading, We also must remember that it still has that added feature of having everything in the one application even with everything installed it takes up half the hard disk space of Firefox and Thunderbird combined.

However I do feel that SeaMonkey is lacking a few very important features such as an inline spell checker and a update manager, plus it would be great if they improved the the preference section of the browser like in Firefox 2. As a webmaster I love the feature of fast profile switching and the HTML editor which can be used to publish your site onto a server even if it's been made in Dreamweaver like my sites are, I am kind of thinking whether I should stick to Firefox 2 or go to SeaMonkey as this browser has heaps of potential to be just as good if not better than Firefox.

Was a little worried trying this beta version of Seamonkey, but so far, its running fine. Seems like the updates are now comming more often to the Seamonkey suite. Good to see this. A year ago, it seemed like they were only releasing the occasional security upgrade. Funny, when you go to download.com they don't even have Seamonkey listed anywhere on there site. After flitting around with Opera for a while (which is an excellent program, by the way), I've finally decided to come "back" to SeaMonkey for good. This is superior to both Opera and Firefox (faster than both and has more useful features than both, without hunting down dozens of extra extensions, and not having the rendering issues that opera does, regardless of whose fault those issues are). Plus, it's truly open-source in the way that was true of Mozilla before they became more "corporate" in attitude...that is, before there was a sort of break between end-users and developers. The mail component is just as functional as Thunderbird, and using it in conjunction with the browser is far more resource-friendly than using Firefox-Thunderbird. I never could understand why apps that are so close in their code and construction are better being run separately than being integrated together. Yeah, the "UNIX philosophy" is always cited, but somehow I don't think that was foremost in Mozilla's thinking when they abandoned the Suite. Running one instance of the GRE is far more economical than running two or three. Long live SeaMonkey.

1 - AOL can't be compared to SeaMonkey. AOL does not have a HTLM editor.
2 - AOL is nothing more than an IE based browser. Their e-mail client doen't work off-line.

Back on topic I've found this browser to be much more stable and polished than Firefox. AOL Explorer and AOL 9.0 SE are two completely different browsers. Learn your browsers, dude! AOL 9.0(All In One) is the one I'm using now for mail and website reading. AOL Explorer(IE6 shell with tabs or IE7 will advanced features) to me is improving, but still needs work and the streamliner browser needs to be scratched. AOL 9.0 is great to use and so is the AOL Communicator. Sea Monkey has alot of potential to be something great, but nothing is being done about it. I always try out new things that come out and give them a trial. I used to use Sea Monkey alot, but went back to AOL browser do to the fact that it lacks customizable features(background wallpaper, better themes, Favorites scroll toolbar buttons with large icons, toolbar with excellent features -not the back, forward,home etc. crap! - I mean like Music, Security, Videos, Business Finance, Radio with XM, Forums, Mail, Games, News, Reeds,IM Messenger, Chat Rooms and more), quick access to Yellow / White pages, dictionary/thesaurus, city guides and more all for free now. Some users get caught up in the hype of browsers and forget what makes a good one. People call AOL users noobs when they don't really get what people really care about on the web. Personally, a web browser that just goes back and forth like Sea Monkey, IE, Opera, Avant and others can't be compared to AOL and MSN. Because they don't provide premium content and helpful resources to you from the get go. Sea Monkey is the only alternative mozilla browser I have left on my PC since Firefox kept messing with AOL for some odd reason recently and I had to remove it. I hope by 2.0 I see something different and creative. I'm speaking of Sea Monkey that is.

Really, So Seamonkey and Firefox are not something built off the mozilla engine. lol! when was the last time you used AOL. They have something called the AOL Communicator which is faster than thunderbird.

Sucks Sucks Sucks! The only thing they keep doing is release security updates and that's it. No mail and write button added to the toolbar, AIM function in sidebar still doesn't work and no sidebar shortcut button. It's cool to see that they still have that drive but fix it up. AOL to me is still the best all in one client. Plus! AOL's client is free now :)

Still my favorite browser. IE stinks. I don't like the feel of opera with its cluttered tabs and all. And firefox doesn't grab me either. I still prefer the browser-email suite. I like the mail client in the (was Netscape than mozilla now Seamonkey) browser line. Like the way the bcc field is easy to access doing a new email. Plus the attachment window on the right side i always liked. I never see any stats on how many people use seamonkey, i think its lumped in with Mozilla's browsers, either way i guess theres a few of us who still prefer this software.

Getting better with every release, although I find it hard to go past Firefox, but if you want everything except the kitchen sink [I think that comes in the next version] this is the way to go. Not sure why the previous post prefers this to firefox as you don't have to use tabbed browsing in the Fox if you prefer seperate windows, although why you would is beyond me, and the Fox works just as well in either mode even if as "ezh" says, Seamonkey is more "DISAINED" for multi-windowed browsing.

This browser is good, but not great. Some plugins still crash the browser and it's not supported by most sites.

Get Firefox 1.5.0.4! It's the best release by mozilla ever :) It's faster than any browser out there(IE7 and Opera). It works on all web pages that IE access(IEtab which I don't ever use now since this release).

Firefox and Thunderbird are a perfect match.

I'm not just saying this 'cause of the hype. I used to hate Firefox, but when I tried this release I stopped using AOL Explorer(Crap), Avant, Maxthon, Opera, Sea Monkey, Netscape and IE7. Believe me, I've tested all and Firefox is the only browser that remains.

as of right now June 5 2006. I would have to say that this is the best internet browser out there. the speed + stability combination is the best out there. opera would be the best but it does not work with 50% of the sites out there. this browser rocks. only thing that sucks is it doesn't have lots of skins.

Yanike, Don't know what version of Seamonkey you downloaded, but its not the one you reviewed. I have tried about 200 websites and none are acting up. All my plug in's work. Speed, sorry, it makes no difference if you have firefox, IE, or Opera. I love to here people brag about there favorite browser, and making up stuff on how good it is compared to other ones. Well that doesn't hold water. Only major difference between Firefox and Seamonkey is the amount of extensions avail. Allot more for firefox. But i still like the combined email client and browser. And thats why i use it.

Not bad. But i'm not quite ready to jump from Mozilla 1.7.13 just yet. I had this version of Seamonkey a few days now. And there were a couple of problems with some webpages not rendering correctly. Plus i use my personal toolbar allot and i have allot of sites that overlap onto the right side of this toolbar and they sometimes disapear if you shrink the screen and than bring it back to full screen. Minor problems, but still an issue. The other issue and its not seamonkeys fault- the nautipolis theme doesnt work with seamonkey. The creaters website doenst have an update version to work with this version of seamonkey. But overall, a good browser that i would take over Opera or I.E.

A fast, stable browser with a nice interface I feel.

The only thing stopping me giving it a 5 is its inability to handle RSS feeds; until this changes I'll happily use Opera.

Kind of lame if you ask me. For some reason, the Home page can't be changed; it keeps reverting to the default. As someone mentioned, the lack of right-click and drag/drop is a joke. The speed is excellent, however. Avant is much better. The home button should be enabled by default and is located on the far right-hand side of the Navigation toolbar. It's the blue, circular Seamonkey icon.

SeaMonkey is currently my favorite web browser. There are two things this browser does better than anyone else's it's the most stable and it'll let you know when the websites referenced by your bookmarks have been updated (providing you set it to monitor a particular website). I like SeaMonkey better than FireFox and Netscape Navigator 8.1 (the most feature rich, and unstable browser I've ever used).

Very nice piece of software in the sense that it has been built with a more traditional/corporate mentality in terms of stability and feature coverage. Too bad that hardly anybody wants a Mozilla-based browser with that kind of maturity. The vast majority of people willing to use "alternative" browsers are hungry for code that's fresh, lean, and just plain cool. Seamonkey may have a cool name but otherwise, it's like a TV show on PBS -- quality programming with a tiny audience.

I've been using Sea Monkey for quite some time and believe me I've tried all the rest. As of now there's not a browser that has been able to make me change.

It has been stable and extremely fast in page rendering. It has just enough features to keep me happy. I'm looking forward to downloading and using 1.0.1.

I downloaded 1.0.1 and it is working very well. Page rendering is by my perception, even quicker. For certain, this is no lame browser. As for avant, Yes, it's good for what it is, a variant of Explorer, using the same engine.

SeaMonkey 1.0 has been rock-stable for me in Windows 2000 and XP, but I'll install 1.0.1 for the security fixes. I have been using the suite since before Mozilla 1.0 (and the original Netscape suite before that), and SeaMonkey is a very nice update to Mozilla 1.7x.

Banquo: To add the HOME button, you go to Edit > Preferences > Navigator and the check box to add the HOME button is under Personal Toolbar.

let me be very honest with u guys...
i have seen their forum and wiki's and this browser isn't on its priority list...
what i mean by it is they are concentrating on firefox and this in their own words is"passtime"...
dont expect a significant upgrade like 1.1 or something anytime late nov-dec this year....
so,unless ur crazy about it,moveon to any other stuff...

Pros: This is more stable than Firefox, and feels more like a finished product in a way. Also very cool for the retro Netscape feel (whether that's good or bad is up to the individual however).

Cons: No right-click/drag and drop ability in the bookmarks menu. Also where's the Home button?

I've never quite understood why Mozilla went for Firefox/Thunderbird as separate programs, as I'm told that it uses more computer resources running them both at the same time than a combined browser/email setup does. Anyway, full marks to Seamonkey - after trying various other browser suites (Opera, IE, Maxthon) it's definately the best for me.

I've always used Firefox & Thunderbird seperately but having just tried SeaMonkey I'm definitely leaning towards switching. The idea of having my email & browser more integrated is appealing. I know SeaMonkey is just a renamed Mozilla suite, but the new name is what caught my attention, I'm glad it did.

Wow! I tested this thing on an IBM Thinkpad 390e(333mhz w/ 256mb mem) with XP Pro and fully updated. I was shocked at the speed of this thing! It had no problem displaying sites like betanews(even with tons of comments) rapidly, and the start time was about 4s(6s from cold start)!

I prefer PortableFirefox to this, but it's staying on my laptop.

At first I thought that SeaMonkey would replace Firefox as my default web browser, but boy was I wrong. After using the browser for a while I found bugs that stopped me from accessing sites that I needed for school. Also, the fact that I can't use CTRL + Enter like I can in Firefox limits my ease of use. Overall, I'll stick with the bugs of Firefox rather than the ones of Seamonkey. Hopefully, in the next version, these things will be fixed.

Ahhh my favorite browser/internet application has returned from the dead ;) I loved the Mozilla Application Suite back before MoFo dumped it (in development terms) in favor of Firefox/Thunderbird (big mistake, in my opinion). So, I'm delighted to see the MAS make a return as SeaMonkey; it's now my main browser again. Much faster and more economical than the Fx/Thunderbird combo; and top-of-the-line and forward-looking when it comes to standards support (XML, XSLT, SVG, E4X etc etc). I'll keep an updated copy of Fx around since it's too important to ignore; but Thunderbird (which I never really liked) is GONE.

Seamonkey is simply a great suite. After using Opera and its so-so M2 client for years, I switched to Firefox and Thunderbird, which were great for a while, but recent versions just seem bloated and slow. I still use Firefox without plugins on some of my computers, when I need a fast, light weight browser, but on my main PC I'll stick with Seamonkey. It's fast as hell, and it uses considerably less memory than IE/Outlook, Opera, or Firefox/Thunderbird. My only complaint is that browser.chrome.load_toolbar_icons is off by default, which isn't a big deal. OH, and the name is stupid, it should be more bad a** like ThunderMonkey or FireMonkey.

This is by far the most efficiently fast and stable browser that I've used. It may not have the aesthetical look of Firefox although you can install some themes but it does have all the tools that makes browsing very enjoyable and easy. Already has it's own email client along and amazingly efficient.Firefox is still one of the best but SEAMONKEY takes the front seat by now. Great work from the people at Mozilla group. Folks,I highly recommend this!

Well Beta was better and more stable and less resource eating.

anyway best browser so far.
Macromedia Flash refused to Install, worked on beta, i manually put files in plugins dir and works now.

But for now i jump back to Beta version, faster brwosing less problems and less memory eating and nicer Program-Icon (ok, j/k on that one ^^)

Please developer, Let this one be smooth, al tha new features put them to whatever but let one Broser please be fast and stable. Beta was more promising than this final 1.0.

I've been using Seamonkey as my primary browser for some months. I couldn't be more pleased. I've also tried just about every other browser out there and as far as I'm concerned, nothing can touch it.

I just tried downloading the new IE7, to check it out. However, the download was taking so long, I guess because of all the junk included, that I stopped it. No, my computer is not slow.

Anyway, if you want a good stable browser, check out Seamonkey.

I know that this is a tall statement, but ,right now, this is the best of all the browsers. I've never used a faster browser and it renders better than Opera. Much better than Firefox without all the fuss and bother.

Unless I'm mistaken, the speed of page rendering should be equal to Firefox as this is based on the Firefox code base, right?

All in all - it's nice - it's Thunderbird and Firefox bundled together along with an integrated IRC Client and HTML Editor that you can get extensions to do similar tasks.

I can see the best usage of Seamonkey being the idea of rebranding as one application suite by AOL or Google -- although AOL does have it's application suite in hand already.

This project is still in Alpha and is a great emerging application suite. I usually use Netscape 8.0.4, but I was very suprised by the speed and rendering of Seamonkey. IE Tabs works well with Seamonkey. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/

A great browser. As fast or faster than K-meleon. However, page rendering of Seamonkey seems faster.I don't know if Fire Fox can hold a candle to this browser.I've not seen anything quite this good in the Alpha stage of development.

I just hope that future development won't ruin it.

I love this browser! As fast as Opera and renders pages much better. When this program is in final release, there goes Firefox. This kills every browser I've tried, which means almost all of them. Do you get the idea that I'm slightly fond of this thing?

The name of this application is Seamonkey. The App is not made by Mozilla. With that being said, nothing beats this app suite. Firefox is great, but it's nice having all the apps built into 1 suite, instead of installing several different apps.

guys Mozilla dropped the application suite. they will stop developing it after 1.7, or 1.8 or something. The core gecko engine is still by them, but the project is still open source and ongoing, just under a different name.

As far as I can tell this is not a rebranding. The "standard" Mozilla suite was simply the browser and email/newsgroup client. This adds IRC and HTML editor.
I'm not sure why it needs a whole other suite exactly. Or at least they should release the other parts separately as well, and maybe they will eventually.
