An excellent game that will challenge you day and night, and offers years of experienced book play. Shredder can be played on lower levels for fun, or you can match up with Deep Blue if you want, ha! The range of options are impressive, not to mention this game is offered in Linux, Windows/Vista, mac, and mobile versions. For example, you can reverse a move using CTRL+Backspace, which comes in real handy for wanting to play through (you can also use CTRL+D to edit positions on the board manually).
High end versions are sold that allow the chess engine to take advantage of multiple cores, x64 architectures, and so on. The 2.1 version of Classic is out, along with the 10.1 "Deep Shredder" version. Try classic and if you like it (which you will), you'll want to get the Deep Shredder versions, trust me. Well worth it, but just needs a couple of UI tweaks.
