This is still the best media browser out there. I use this as a portable application, there is no need to install this into your program files. You can simply point this app to your usb stick portable apps folder on install and it will work on any computer you take your usb stick to.
This beats InfranView and XNView hands down.
Considering the age of this application I am surprised it is not better known.
As for it being no longer updated or having further development, it does not need it. It is perfect as it is.

Very impressive. SLOWview it's not, easily as fast as XP's Picture and Fax viewer, with many more formats supported. Big bonus - this freeware tested clean on both AdAware and Spybot S/D! Very unusual these days - thanks for the courtesy of NOT including adware/spybots! Highly recommended - don't be afraid to try it because of other reviewers negative comments.

Folks, I'm not sure you're reviewing SlowView, but its name is apt: it's SLOW as a turtle! So if you're going to live to be 171, then you'll live just long enough to view your photos in SlowView. Skip this turkey and opt for a speed demon in CompuPIC, or at the least, ACDSee 6.03. And no, IrfanView isn't that good either, unless you're just so cheap that you love anything free, whether it's trash or not.

This program has progressively gotten better and better. At first, it would crash, but now, the speed surpasses ACDSee as far as loading (esp thumbnails). With a bit more work, it will be the end-all solution to those who need a file viewer and manipulator. Watch this product!

Thanks for this FREEWARE - so I can use it as a pupil, because we have not enough 'pocked-money'.
Thanks.

I've given this a 4 since it's not as good as it could be yet. For freeware this is an amazing piece of software and a true ACDSee-killer in diapers ;). I can't compare it to Irfanview as I don't have enough experience with that program, but I can compare it to ACDSee. SV opens and browses files much faster than ACDSee 5, but has less customization options for the browser itself and the shell integration. I find the extra tools on ACDSee bloat, although the HTML option is kind of useful for quick publication. Therefor I'm not sure whether or not I can replace ACDSee with SV yet, but for most users I'd say SV is way better than ACDSee and best of all: free! :)

YES! I love this program! I used to be an avid ACDSee lover for as long as I can remember, till ACDSEE went into bloats ville and gave me no choice but to switch to Irfanview. But, I was not really happy with Irfanview, so I had no choice but to switch over to using the old version of ACDSee, version 3.1 (the last good version IMHO). But now, SlowView comes along and saves the day! It gives me everything I loved about ACDSee 3.1 and nothing I don't! Plus it's freeware and it is constantly updated! What more could a man ask for? Although I'm not exactly all for the name "SlowView", it is otherwise the perfect image app for me. 3 cheers for SlowView! HIP HIP HORRAY! HIP HIP HORRAY! HIP HIP HORRAY!

Good program and good and frequent fixes. The author is hell-bent to make this a great image viewer, and is succeeding. I particurlarly like the 1 key escape (even from full screen view), the space bar toggling between pictures *and MOVIES, and the compact size. I do not like the thumbnail browser. It is redundant. All modern versions of Windows already have thumbnails in the Explorer. Sloview, ACDSee, or nobody else can make a browser as good as the Explorer, so the browse functions should be removed IMHO. Just a universal viewer is all that's needed! (bobad@charter.net)

this is like an ACDSee clone which I've used for years.
for a free viewer, it doesnt get any better then this!
busta reviewed v0.9.9.4 on May 20, 2002
Very, very nice program. Looks good and works good. One annoying thing is that when I use the Next/Prev Media button the window changes size and position. Also doesn't have the advanced Bath conversion options that Irfan View has at the moment. I'll still give it a 5 though because it's solid and free.
oboogie reviewed v0.9.9.4 on May 19, 2002
WOW! This is THE BEST viewer I've ever had. It's working just like ACDSEE+IrfanView. Good interface, fast loading, & the most important thing: IT'S FREE!. I recommend it for everyone.
nerf reviewed v0.9.9.3 on May 9, 2002
Smooth interface. As an ex ACDSee user, it behaves as I want out of the box, unlike IrfanView. Logically organized. "Only Images" and "Only Videos" associations aren't working yet. Cannot keep the window maximized when viewing a full-screen sized image then going to a smaller image. Tried "Save current window position/size" under "View" drop-down, but no checkbox exists to let me select it. "Always maximize window" under the "View" drop down causes images to overlay when selecting "next". it's close, 90% there, but still needs some touching up, so 4 stars.
Cormac reviewed v0.9.9.2 Beta on Apr 15, 2002
The best. It's very customizable, got a nice UI and nice icons. It's fast... I'll give it five stars.

A very good piece of software.
It's getting better and better with each release.
It is a very interesting alternative to ACDSee.
GimieGimieGimie reviewed v0.99 on Mar 10, 2002
Most impressive! and deserves the 5 stars. SlowView is getting better in each release, this release allows you to exit the program by pressing ESC, like IrfanView, and it must better looking then IrfanView too. This is all great, but this program uses too many resources for it's type, i get graphical overlay image bugs all the time with it. I also don't like the way it's not as personal i love clicking on the image to make it fullscreen as IrfanView allows. I'm sticking with IrfanView thank you very much, but nice attempt.

Excellent work in progress. I would like to re-postion the toolbar buttons and viewing windows, but he is probally all ready working on that. Excellent Windows Explorer intergration and file conversion capabilitys.
eyebex reviewed v0.9.8a on Oct 29, 2001
This program is by far the best freeware picture (and more) viewer I've found so far. It's interface is much cleaner and better categorized than IrfanView's, and on my machinbe it's even faster. In fact it's not an IrfanView clone but and AcdSee clone!
bobad reviewed v0.9.8 Beta on Oct 15, 2001
This program just gets better and better! It gets more "usable" with each release, which means it's quick and handy for viewing pictures and most other types of multi media. I particurlarly like the ability to press the space bar and toggle through a folder of movies just like you can pics. Keep up the good work guys. Don't change much: the program is nearly perfect as it is! Squash a few bugs and clean up the code and leave it alone! You might consider removing the browser. Modern versions of Windows already have thumb nails. Why try to re-ionvent the WIndows Explorer? (bobad@charter.net)the

Bah... This program still rocks for being free. The funny thing is that it's really fast on my 1ghz tbird at home, but it takes a few seconds to start on my 550mhz PIII at work. hmm... I blame the computer. :D
reidyn reviewed v0.9.6d on Jun 17, 2001
Looking better each time. Who cares if it's an ACDSee lookalike/workalike... The fact that it's free and does all of that just means that you don't have to buy a copy of ACDSee to get the same features.
Some_Guy reviewed v0.9.6a on May 7, 2001
Looking good, but it's a bit of a ACDSee rip-off... but I guess not. I mean, a lot of us have the same idea, and maybe this will be better than ACDSee, but it's still sort of a copycat... least it's free tho.
bobad reviewed v0.9.6 on May 3, 2001
Good program, getting better. The new zoom lock doesn't seem to work. Still needs a true full screen mode that can be saved "ON". Still needs ability to exit by pressing Esc once. Has bug in "Save last window position and size" where Slowview nearly disappears. Why do graphics viewers have browsers anyway? Windows already has a good file explorer. Too many bugs in this release, but still a nice viewer.(bobad@mindspring.com)
bobad reviewed v0.9.6 Beta on Mar 12, 2001
This program is really coming along nicely. It has 95% of the features needed for a useable graphics viewer, plus a few nice extras. I really like the ability to permanently select "Shrink picture to fit", which is vital for viewing the large pictures from modern digital cameras. One vital feature that is missing is a quick escape from full screen mode. You have to press escape twice, and this is cumbersome. Also needed is the option to always start in full screen mode, with middle mouse click reverting to the browser mode. Neither the zoom keys ( + and - ) or the zoom icons worked, perhaps they are not active in this release. Keep up the good work. This is already a nice program, and a few key features will make it a solid "5".
Cool-Gui reviewed v0.9.6 Beta on Mar 12, 2001
I love this program. It does what ACDSEE did about a year ago before it got bloated with image editing features that aren't needed in a quick viewer. Best of all, it's free.
