Publisher's Description

Snowl is a prototype Firefox extension that integrates messaging into the browser. The initial prototype supports two sources of messages: RSS/Atom feeds and Twitter. It exposes two interfaces for reading them: a traditional three-pane "list" view, targeted to active reading of important messages; and a "river of news" view, based on the concept popularized by Dave Winer, designed for casual browsing.

A stupid, stupid idea. I love the browser but Pidgin is what I use for IM'ing. It sits open all the time unlike my browser (but eats up 20M of memory, like my browser heh). Still even if it saved me 15M of memory I wouldn't use it.

As talked about in the comments section of the Beta News story about Snowl, it need not be a fixed part of FireFox.

Snowl right now is an extension (add-on) and...

Linux:(look for it in the "view" menu under "message list" ) not quite the best location.
Win: ...anybody?

As Snowl stands right now, it is a functional early beta RSS reader that utilizes some tab functionality (but not all)

..is integrated into the RSS subscribe button in the FF address bar.

...opens with sidebar (for feed subs) and split browser window for viewing feed titles and feed short description with links to actual content.

there is OPML support for importing RSS subs from other readers.

No IM integration at this point.
I would like to see IM in tabs of some sort (perhaps along bottom of browser for something different)

otherwise it works and hasn't crashed yet.
