Excellent, affordable alternative to MSoffice 2007 and up. Boots fast and runs light. This is the ONLY clone of MSoffice software that can perfectly decode the brutal "respondus.docx" XML document, which is benchmark for msoffice word compatibility. (you can find this doc online). LibreOffice still fails this test. You can get special deals for SoftMaker Office if you sign up for their newsletter. Each license allows 3 computers installation (per individual user),which is handy if you have multiple computers at home. Tips after installation,I suggest changing the default file format from SoftMaker to Office 2007 XML format.

Fast, light and quite compatible. Better than OpenOffice / LibreOffice, even if not free.

Yesterdays final beta was the first in which the new mail client was offered. Having had no problems with the last beta's I installed it hoping the try out the new mail client.

This proved to be impossible as the mail would not install despite downloading the program twice in case the first had download corruptions & attempting this on two PC's - Both failed.

I suspect I will get another mail from Softmaker, I can't see how this can be the final beta when this is the first time the email was included. Softmaker, sorry but I can't see me bothering anymore. No mention was made of the 'missing' email client on the first two beta's. I think they may be out of their depth?

Looks like I will be sticking with MS Office & that dam stupid 'Ribbon'.

Far more polished & runs MS Office docs flawlessly. I use it all the time despite or because I have MS Office 2010 on. Worth the cost over the free ones.

I have Office 2007 Enterprise which I personally are not fond of.So I use this & my daughter uses MS 2007.

IMHO this suite is streets ahead of Open Office, it makes Open Office seem like it was designed in the 80s. I have only had to pay a small amount as I bought the 2008 version. MS could learn a lot from this software as in you can actually remove it if you wish. And it & doesn't require a service pack every 3 months. Version 2010 beta is excellent.

I pre paid & saved even more. Well worth every penny. A very polished program. BTW Ashampoo also market this program with a few changes but in essence it is the same.

I didn't think I'd want to pay for an office suite with OpenOffice around, but SoftMaker have made a great product! The compatibility with MSOffice is excellent, which is important to me, and a reason why I've been looking for something else than OOO. It is also a very quick office suite. The applications start pretty much instantly, something which unfortunately cannot be said of OpenOffice (which certainly has other advantages).

There are some things which can still use some improvement, but overall I'm very happy with my purchase!

FYI: SoftMaker also provide a very good academic licensing.

Softmaker is more stable than Openoffice, at least when I use it. It is available for Windows, Pocket PC CE and higher, Linux, including Ubuntu. the Pocket PC version is full featured!
Note: The final release of the new versions other than windows can be found at softmaker.com/forums

I haven't had time to use it much. It says Commercial Demo so I'm just wondering what they plan to charge for it and what's going to make it better than the free open office? I'll give them a 3 for effort and wish them good luck cause they are gonna need it in the already crowded office market.
First is has to be good enough to be a Microsoft Office replacement and Second it has to be better and less expensive than Open Office.

(Update)

It looks like they will be charging around $65.00 for the final product so while I give the free beta a Three the final product will probably get a One.

It just doesn't do enough to say its any better than the free Open Office.
