Spyware Inoculator will inoculate your PC to Prevent Spyware from ever being installed. While there are a few good Spyware removers wouldn't it be better to prevent Spyware from ever being installed in the first place? This programs "Set it and Forget it" feature accomplishes just that. Most Spyware is installed over the Internet by using ActiveX Controls which are basically the same thing as a web site running a program (.exe) from their site on your PC. It installs what Microsoft refers to as 'kill bits' in the Registry that block the installation of know Spyware and in most cases will prevent those already installed from functioning. These include add on Toolbars, Dialers, so-called browser helpers, browser hijackers, key loggers and third party Cookie readers. All of these sent you, what you're typing, which programs you're using and which web sites you go to. Many even send back all the email addresses in your address book that they then use for Spaming. Generally speaking, an ActiveX Control can be designed to retrieve anything from you PC and send it back to the site that installed it.

The whole blacklist approach to rogue ActiveX control blocking is a flawed, nonsensical, losing battle. It makes about as much sense as blacklisting "from" addresses to block spam. And what happens when you try that? The spammers are constantly coming up with new "from" addresses, so it accomplishes almost nothing.
"So what is the solution, httpd.confused? Please do tell us!" The solution is two-fold: (1) Use a whitelist for ActiveX controls, not a blacklist (yes, Windows will let you do it, but I'm not here to teach you); and (2) Use Opera or Firefox whenever possible.
But even that won't protect you if you're stupid enough to install crapware on your system. Saying that this utility (which really stretches the meaning of the word "utility") prevents spyware from being installed is pretty near a complete lie. It helps prevent SOME ActiveX-based spyware from being installed by way of Intestinal Explorer. Period. It doesn't help other vectors, including the idiot user who downloads and runs anything that comes his way.

Why shareware?
Spywareblaster is freeware and works the same way.
Even SpyBot gives a hint to use Spywareblaster.
