Publisher's Description
Squeez is an extremely fast file compression application, supporting 11 different compression algorithms. The software reads and writes files in the formats ACE, ARJ, BZIP, CAB, GZIP, LZH, RAR, SQX, TAR, UUE and ZIP -- without any additional software. With only one click, it compresses one or several files and attaches it/them to a new E-Mail message.

More people should discover this incredible archiver. One of the best UI's I've ever come across, and unbelievably, the price has dropped this year, despite the weak USDollar!

Squeez really is a great program, if nothing else for its versatility and incredible UI. However, its RAR functionality was simply stolen and RARLabs doesn't have the money to litigate it, so it continues.

Thanks to reverse-engineering, Squeez is the only non-Rarsoft program which can create RAR files. It doesn't implement 100% of RAR but comes close enough that you won't have any compatibility issues moving files back and forth with WinRAR or other Rarsoft programs.
This version of Squeez comes with version 4.32 of 7za.dll from 7-Zip but you can replace it with a newer version (download the "extras" because this dll is no longer part of the base 7-Zip installer; for example, 7z442_extra.tar.bz2 contains the extras for 4.42) and the result is 100% equality with 7-Zip for 7z compression and extraction (same size, same speed, same memory/CPU usage) but with a much better GUI. There are a few areas which could use some improvement in English language support and online help, but the GUI is otherwise both friendly and powerful.
Creating any other format besides 7z was disappointing with Squeez. Both 7-Zip and WinRAR frequently create ZIP files smaller than Squeez. In the case of 7-Zip, I tested with Deflate (ZIP 2.0), Deflate64 (ZIP 4.5), and Bzip2 (ZIP 4.6); WinRAR only supports regular Deflate. In every case, comparing with equivalent options, Squeez produced larger ZIP files than the competition. Not by very much, but consistently. Same for its RAR files when compared to WinRAR.
I had high expectations for SQX, Squeez's native format. Surely an author who was able to implement RAR himself, along with supporting a dozen other formats, would have combined the best aspects of all into SQX, especially the 2.0 generation of SQX. Although SQX was always smaller than any form of ZIP in my tests, it never beat the size of 7z nor WinRAR-created RARs. Also frustrating were the "todo" areas of the SQX SDK 2.02. Although the SDK does contain enough sample code to develop for SQX, documentation of the 2.0 format is lacking. It's hard to see any appeal of SQX over 7z.

Why bother when there is wonderful freebies like Tug Zip and others doing the same.
