This app is very useful. The problem is that the standard lock feature gets deactivated by some multimedia players/webcam drivers. So if you install such a piece of software, your account will never gets locked. If you activate it, the next update will deactivate it again...

This post is for cyber guy... your a moron for down playing this program cause of 'Win-L' because apparently you dont realize not all computers come with a windows key. My laptop (IBM Thinkpad R51) does not have one and this is just the program I was looking for. Just cause your not the user that this program was intended for doesn't mean this is a sucky program.

The best non-Windows-integrated station lock program ever!

This program is freeware, unlike all of the others. It has a nice fading effect while going into locked mode. It can check for updates! This beta is better than all other shareware apps!

Agreed. This program is totally redundant. The built-in "Win+L" does everything this does.

If you want workstation security, set up your user account to use passwords. You don't need yet another app to do it.

Im not been disrespecful (if thats spelt right! lol) But to all you whiners and moaners... Please think before typing. SLXP isn't the best lock out there i know lol so please stop been biased. One thing i noticed about Windows lock is if i am listening to music.. It stops? Some ppl dont want to edit there user account system on XP (like me). Most of the whiners have said that windows XP has this function bult in. Yep it does but does that stop you from having your own custom lock? (which im planing for a later version!) Where you can edit the style? (some ppl will not think much of it but some people do!) I thank all the people that are supporting this program! Your a great bunch of users! :D I am thinking of setting up a fourm (because i would really really like to hear from the users and hear what they want! because that what the program in the end is for, the users!)

Er...locking the pc using 2000, XP, 2003 leaves all processes running in standard Windows.

Sure It can be done in windows xp.

But what you all are missing out on is the reason this program exists:

I noticed there are so many whiners out there that see a program that does something that XP can do, and instantly discredit it without seeing it's alternate purposes or intentions for even being made!

Well, I gotta say that I like the idea behind this program. It does add additional security to my account, and I like that. Even though I could just use the windows welcome screen...I have been wanting to have a quick access lock-out ability while inside my user account. This one works fine, and it has the ability to log all attempts to access my account...I like that function, and windows doesn't have that (at least to my knowledge, there could be some setting or log file somewhere, but windows doesn't make it simple to find, like this program does.)

And now for the bad news. This is obviously a beta program, it has disabled buttons for future functions that aren't in the program just yet, and some of the supposedly active features are puking up error codes. Yes, it is rather redundant in the fact that you already have most of these options in the welcome screen in windows, but some people (such as myself) do not like using the welcome screen.

Overall, it's an ok program, with ok features. If you like the windows welcome screen, I suggest just using that. Otherwise, this program should suit your needs fine (once all of the wrinkles in the program have been ironed out!)

Just press WIN+L.

Using Fast User Switching? Disable the Guest account and password protect the rest.

Want to keep people from rebooting into your computer via Safe Mode? Password protect the Administrator account via net.exe at the command prompt. You can do the same to Guest if you'd like.

Want to keep people from booting from a CD, floppy, or USB key? Hold DEL or F1 (varies by machine, RTFM for your motherboard) on boot to access the bios and set a boot password.

I fail to understand why this tool would be of any use to anyone.

If you add a password to your WinXP account it will protect your personal "document and settings" directory for you. If you want proper security use limited accounts.

I LOVE IT! I tried the trial version of Lock My PC. It was just as good. But, it wasn't for FREE! I highly recommend this to EVERYONE!!!!

The Windows Lock feature really only serves a point if you turn off fast-user-swiching... then it will give you that message saying "This computer is in use and has been locked, only or an administrator can unlock this computer."

This program is good for users who do not know about Windows XP built in lock feature. It is so simple to use, very handy if you work in a Office or at home with young children about. It's a great piece of software.

Give this program a chance. yes i will admit xp has a lock feature but i cannot get the built in lock to work (windows key + L) only swiches user which will not stop anyone from accessing your files if they have an account on the computer. I have found this program very usefull and hope to see the final release.

hehe thanks for having alook at my software any way :-). Yea i know that windows has one bult in but when i started making this (A simple version called Station Lock) i found out how to use the windows lock. But.. one of my planed features is to have restart protection in it :-) so if the user's pc is restarted, it will stay locked. Does windows do that? I've never heard of it.. Plus this is a beta version at 0.0.0.62 :) Not completely finnished. If you have any problems with the program please email me at dave.goodson@dg-dev.org.uk and report the bug! :) I know of some problems with the mainfest file.. I've had problems to with it but it var's on different manchines. Any way Thanks for the input :-) ive never had any from another website where i host this. Thanks

Not a very useful piece of software. Like mentioned prviously, Win2000 & WinXP already have a locking function. Also you could also set password in the BIOS, so the machine won't boot up without a password. Like any protection, it can be defeated easily.

Bottom line is, I wouldn't pay for this.

If your computer is password protected you can control alt delete and click on lock computer and that way you have to enter your password to get back into it. This can be done on 2000, XP and 2003 server.

written in visual basic, redundant functionality, and they actually plan on charging for this. that's three strikes.

additionally, the description says it will "protect your PC from anyone physically accessing" it. i hate to break it to you, but "physical access" is just that -- physical. if this software protected from physical access, then it would prevent people from being able to walk up, unplug the cords, and walk away with my computer.

Give this a chance. It appears to have many more features then the default Windows lockdown (Windows+L) and I could see some good use in companies. However, when I installed it, I couldn't get it to work. I don't want to toy around with something that will lock my computer. Anyway, looks like a good program.
