Trying to remove the Trojan.Vundo virus has literally taken DAYS of my life away from me. I tried EVERYTHING short of replacing my OS. The Symantec Tool did not work for me and I tried it every which way to Sunday. The only thing that worked was the free trial download of Spy Sweeper, which I discovered only by visiting this site. I am not affiliated with this product in any way. I'm just telling folks what worked for me. If the Symantec Tool doesn't work for you, you might want to try it.

nurseroni is right, this Trojan.Vundo removal tool didn't work for us, or for many other people, according to postings on other sites. However, the free trial download of Webroot Spysweeper did work. Thanks for the tip for getting rid of this infuriating virus!

The only reason I suggested the use of Webroot is because someone told me about it.. here on this review page. The removal tool for the trojan.vundo did not work for me, after numerous attempts nor did it seem to work for other ppl. I am only trying to help and make suggestions so others can get rid of it too, that's all!

nurseroni21, thanks for your advise. Spy Sweeper did a good job for me yesterday. It removes this perticular Trojan.Vundo for me. Now, the pmnnm.dll is killed and the registry is clean. Thanks again.

I had the same problem last week. Norton was not able to get rid of the trojan.vundo. Norton's scan found it, gave the option to get rid of it but after reboot, it was still there. The removal tool did not help at all either. I tried several times but to no avail. I guess itw working for some and not others. Webroot Spysweeper is what worked for me. You can download a free trial version of this for 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

I got the following DLL file infected by Trojan.Vundo, C:\\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnm.dll .
This file is flagged and left alone by Norton Anit-virus due to the use of SYSTEM. After I ran Trojan.Vundo removal tool of version 1.3.1, it did find this infected file but said this infected file can't be removed because this infected file is being used. The removal tool also said that after the system is re-booted, this infected file will be removed. However, after I rebooted my PC, this infected file is still there and Norton Anti-virus keeps notifying me this infected file is detected and left alone. Any idea or new version of Trojan.Vundo removal tool can help me?

Just thought I would offer my experience too, in case it's helpful to anyone. Last night I got the message that Norton had detected the Trojan.Vundo virus. I went through, disconnected by internet, disabled system restore, and ran the tool, regularly and in safe mode, and it still said the virus wasnt there. After numerous startups, fighting with safe mode, disabling antivirus, trying to manually remove the virus without messing with the registry, etc., I downloaded the free trial of webroot spysweeper as a few others had done. I ran it a couple times to get rid of all the adware (I already have adaware and even it missed a good bit of stuff) and then did a full system scan, and the virus was gone. May not work for everyone (I see some had success with the symantec removal tools, others did not) but it's worth a shot to download the free trial.

A big "Amen." Norton Antivirus shows a big popup Virus Alert saying "Trojan.Vundo' is there - but the removal tool says it's not there! Hello, Norton??!! - Windows\system32\vtsqr.dll - ignore it, remove it, what???

I too was having the same problem as everyone else. Took the advice and downloaded Webroot Spysweeper, the free trial version, good for 2 wks, completely got rid of the pesty trojan! After 3 days of trying to rid of it, Spysweeper really works. Hope this helps you all.
Thanks, Roni

Here's the fix. Unfortunately the only thing that seems to work is "Webroot Spysweeper" which is not free. If you get this and run it, make sure autoprotect is turned off on your antivirus.

I'm Having the same issue, I think maybe it's a new form of the virus, I am going to contact Symantec.

I am having the same issue. I ran the Vundo Removal Tool and it says that Vundo virus cannot be found. When I run Norton it does find it and I then delete it. But when I run Norton again it finds the virus again.
I also am continuing to get the pop up message from Norton AntiVirus that it has detected a virus on my computer. When I click OK button, the message immediatly returns. Can anyone out there give advice?
Thanks,
Jesse

I had the same problem. Norton says I have the virus. Norton Removal Tool says I don't. What do I do now?
birdie-bert reviewed v1.2.4 on Feb 10, 2005
I used the Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool on my Windows XP operating system and the report stated that the virus is not on my system, although when I run Norton's virus scan two infected files are found called inpatnium.dat, trojan. vundo.
What must I do to remove these files from my system?
yellowhammer reviewed v1.2.4 on Nov 27, 2004
It works. I have been directing people to use it at Castlecops.com and have had a lot of success.
