As a former Groupwise user, I tried Act (rigid and unfriendly), Goldmine, and a few others, but all of them left me wanting. Then I found Time & Chaos.

This PIM is well thought out, easy to use, powerful, and mature. The ability to have all the data you want to see on one screen is liberating. The feature that sold me on this is the cross linking of all data. If you make an appointment or a note you can link it to a contact. As time goes on you can go to the contact and review all the notes or appointments for that contact, which forms a history. This is a feature that both Act and Goldmine teased at but made so difficult to use it was impossible. Brilliant.

The use of colors in the To-Do list allows for a visual organization that adds an additional layer of ease of use. The contacts area has a plethora of fields that will satisfy even the most demanding users. Over 40 customizable fields allow T&C to fit to you, not you having to conform to a program.

The only got-ya is you have to purchase a third party utility (CompanionLink - $50) to sync to a PPC or Palm, and there is a separate program ($30) to link to Outlook.

From a usability standpoint T&C is a joy to use. The program is fast, has easy search functions, excellent reporting and exporting, and just plain works. The program uses standard .dbf files, which opens up more possibilities as well.

At $45 this is a bargain as compared to the alternatives. Full network support built in.

Extremely easy to use and extremely powerful. This software is finely crafted and the more you use it the more enamored of it you'll become. It's loaded with ease-of-use features like drag and drop a contact to create an appointment, single click copies contact information to paste into another program, click on the phone number and it dials out for you.
I've used GoldMine and ACT. This program is superior to most people to both of them. And it's only $45. An amazing bargain.

Stable, lightweight (just over 3MB on disk), simple and highly configurable PIM client. Responsive interface, can be installed to portable media such as memory cards and flash drives. A judiciously modified Fields.ini file allows for CSV importing of contacts into Thunderbird, Palm Desktop and Outlook, amongst others. Highly recommended.

OK software. If you want FREE, go to the T&C website and download the older vers 5.6.10 [dated 5-17-2005] which is now Freeware! Really, I don't see any features of older freeware vers that aren't in newest SW vers [for my needs, anyway].

Well, SlowNeasy is right. The organizer itself is very nice. The problem is that I also use Palm 515. If I want to use it with T&C I should buy additional plugins and pay for it separately. I decided to buy ol' but good IBM Lotus Organizer 6.1 which has a sync plugin built in. I paid 40 bucks for it and I did not need to pay anything extra for syncing my Palm. The same config from Chaos Software would cost twice more (the organizer and the plugin). BTW, T&C has problems with non Latin characters.

It's a decent organizer but way over priced.
