Publisher's Description

Usenet Explorer is a multi server, multi windows, multitasking newsreader for text and binaries. A great binary downloader, without compromising support for text. A great feature is the Virtual groups - combining headers from many groups in one window. Includes comprehensive binary usenet search service.

The program is clearly not for newbie dumbies which posted earlier here. I didn't have much difficulty in learning or using it. The search service feature really works and I don't get missing results like with NewsLeecher. I'm using Usenet for many years and it is the only program in which I can get headers for any newsgroup without running out of memory.

I agree: the horrid interface and high learning curve isn't worth the return Usenet Explorer returns to the user in a quality program. It's as if the programmer could not make up his mind what he wanted this Frankenstein to be. There are better alternatives, indeed.

Not for the newbie user, but it's powerful functions outperform the weakness of the interface. However, the basic settings are all very well, you don't need to change anything. Program is very stable, search feature is incredible. Don't know any other usenet program that good - I tried them all.

Interface is absolutely horrendous.

Even end users has problems figuring out what is what...

The supersearch feature is the only thing deserving a 2 star, but other than that, garbage.

UPDATE: stopbuggingme - try Newsleecher. It's my favorite.

I sent the author a query about moving from NewsPro to Usenet Explorer. He responded, but then followed up with a rant against GigaNews news server. And then another email to me saying:

but i checked your order is from 2002 and you bothering me with your ****ing emails.
i suggest you go to **** yourself and find you another program. just go to hell.

alex

In curiousity, I inquired (to his official addr) to see if he actually sent that. He said :

from whom else.

if you want better customer relations you go to giganews and get it for $300 a year since news admins have enough time and money to play golf and arrange football events. doing nothing essentially.

$35 for 4 years while i'm working around clock for almost nothing actually making profits for these jerks and asking to many questions you just get sent to hell. this is the logic.

the right way was to go to the site, to try the program and not to bother me with stupid questions.

The design philosophy of this app is brillant: You pick the newsgroup you want, then include the servers needed for retrieval (extremely easy to add new ones). It also lets you specify downloading priorities, so that any Premium ISP with a restricted download rate (ie easynews or giganews 6 gig a month) is used last (you can configure it easily this way).

This is *the* best multi server, "all newsgroups one" type app. It works asynchronously, meaning you can many actions at once. Better than News Rover. Tons of interesting feature, like automatic server reconnection, super fast multi threaded downloads. This is the best binary usenet news reader I've found (tested pretty much all of em).

My main concern is with the memory/CPU usage, it's pretty messed up with 3.65 at any rate. I get a 130 megs and 40% CPU on DVD binary newsgroups. Also the support site is horrible, one of the worst site I've ever seen :) No logo and the help is quite shabby.

For Pro and Power users who know what they need :)

Used the older version and it worked pretty well. Does what it says and will retrieve files across servers.

Pretty nice, although, the reading of articles could use some help. I like the Click on the article, and read in the preview window below the list of articles that Agent has. This displays the message in the article list window.
