The software is generally good - easy to use. There are a few issues that seems to be overlooked:
1. The s/w is NOT wide screen friendly - many menus (especially the creating DVD menu to allow selection of video,audio, params) overshoots the screen and makes it very difficult to click the OK button.
2. The marker and region appears too close. Many time when creating or moving a marker you can end up creating a region and this is real messy, There is no feature to delete/reset region and you have to drag the start and stop region point back to the extreme left otherwise the s/w will only render that small section. So far this is the most frustrating issue.
3. There appears to be duplicate settings for rendering DVDs. There is a File/Properties and then there is the custom menu during DVD creation.
4. DVDarchitect will always re-render the audio regardless of what you select in Vegas. This is strange and frustrating. I do not understand why there is no option to render audio without requiring re-rendering dvdarchitect.
5. There is no backward compatibility - it cannot create VCDs! You have to reconsider if you want a more general package that will write VCD, DVD & BlueRay - otherwise you have to buy more than 1 s/w.
6. Somehow it does not want to import videos created by divX.

Sony is unable to make the version 10 stable on windows 7. Users using Windows 7 as a platform should use Sony Vegas 9.0e which is the latest stable version for Windows 7. Apart from that Sony Vegas Pro is a very versatile program and lets me work with files of different format from Nokia and Android phones to Panasonic/Sony/sanyo/samsung cameras and video cams, and gulps down file formats Adobe Premiere could only dream of! Just Brilliant as long as it is stable. Let us jump version 10 and await for an stable version for 64bit Windows 7

524 USD ? Is this a joke? Nero vision also has video editing, and it is much cheaper, friendly interface, very flexible and powerful soft :) So i stay with Nero :)

If it doesn't support .WTV files, it's no good.

For the extensive feature set, editing is pretty easy -- this isn't Movie Maker, this is a real editor. It has good help and tutorials to get you doing cool stuff (even green screen effects). And at this price, it's hard to find any video editor/DVD maker product suite this straight forward that doesn't crash or freeze all the time. This is pretty solid. As for speed, no complaints here. It support lots of formats. All in all, a purchase I'm proud of.
You can buy crash-prone crap from Ulead or Roxio/Sonic because they regularly have new versions for you spend money on if you want, though.

I don't understand what other previous reviewers talking about but Vegas and DVD Architect is the best Video editing and DVD authoring environment I have come across. I have been using these applications over a 4 years now for my commercial services and I found them excellent in terms of features, ease of use and most importantly accurate results without crashes.
At first they may look dounting to learn but compare to other professional packages they are quite easy to learn if you have a basic understanding of what's video editing about and DVD authoring.

Extremely disappointed in Vegas' performance. Slow throughout (even on my dual-core 4G machine) and features thrown everywhere. It will do anything, but learning it is a time-sink.

This makes me sad... since Sonic Foundry sold Vegas to Sony nothing really new has happened to it.
Innovation has gone trought the window, altought cosmetic improvements have been made to the GUI, for the most part vegas is still the same.
Version 7 came, and for all of us who hoped Sony listened to user forums, i'm afraid to say: it didn't happened.
What's left? wait for version 8 or move to a different app.
Don't get me wrong, i enjoy working with Vegas, but performance has lagged, and there where several things that neeeded to be improved and hasn't.
My personal opinion is version 7 is not worth the upgrade if you're not using HDV.
