Ventrilo is a scalable Voice over IP (VoIP) communications system that solves a lot of the problems associated with network latency, packet loss, uptime and administration. It can be used for home / personal applications like talking to friends and family, or playing organized online games where Voice Comm can make them more exciting and productive. It can also be used in an enterprise environment as a productivity tool for conducting long distance group discussions.

1. Does it use IP to work - YES.
2. Is it as voice application - YES.
3. Can you talk to someone with voice, using Internet protocol - YES.

He's right, its not techincally a VoIP product, but its still a great product nonetheless. You can call it voice via net if you wish.

What a scam! This is just voice chat, not VOIP as claimed. There is no PSTN gateway capability. There is no support for standard VOIP protocols like SIP, IAX, H.323, etc. nor standard VOIP codecs. This means no interoperability with VOIP devices and no interoperability with established VOIP networks.
There are already too many proprietary voice chat apps in the world. We didn't need another.

Great app, doesn't have all the bells and whistles of TS, but it does what it needs to do and it does it better in my opinion. I have been admining a vent server for the past 5 years for my gaming community of friends and we all love it. Oh yeah, that free thing rocks too.

I simply love ventrilo. It's easy to use, doesnt have a massive GUI, the sound is just the best around, low bandwidth... What more can I say. I've been using it for over a year now and dont want another ever. Used alot of them but none of them can compete with ventrilo.
Also the server is very easy to setup. Just edit the ini and you're off.
before i forget: its free!!
