Publisher's Description
Vermilion Desktop Composer is a revolutionary approach to a tried and tested format of computer music composing. The program attempts to pick up where Buzz left off, taking a fully open approach to composing, and requiring nothing but a PC with sound. It releases regularly and is desperate for feedback on any level.

Installed it no trouble. Could not get anything vaguely resembling music out of it after 20 minutes reading instructions. Same with tech savy son. Uninstalled it!!

VioLet Composer is now Vermilion Desktop Composer, with the same homepage and a completely rewritten application in Java.

I think "VIOLENT" composer would be more appropriate with regards to stability.
But hey, this is a beta site and this is beta software so keep up the tinkering...

Im the guy who occasionally thinks that it would be really great if I could just create some music.. ive ended up purchasing a keyboard *wich i can hardly play*.. playing around a little bit in Fruity Loops etc.
Just for the hell of it I decided to try this app :P
I clicked the pattern editor.. and clicked the play button.. everything just crashed im on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, AMD 6000+, 4 Gb RAM.. got to use the reset button, im just glad i didnt do anything importent that wasnt saved =)
I could have done a screen shot of the error messsage.. but that would have had to be with an actual camera since nothing worked.. maybe next time.
Since I must rate it ill give it a 3 for effort lol.. no time to test functionallity right now.

LOL thanks Kail. I'm surprised this system keeps letting me do this. At least now I can say someone has legitimately reviewed the program in the last 12 months. Hooray!

Woah! aybiss.. you're the developer? Now, that really does suck. See? You did get one ;).
I know nothing about these types of applications, but I am going test and review it over the next few days. However, since I know nothing about this & certified as "tone deaf".. it might make for rather interesting, or silly, review. So, sorry in advance, I'll do my best.
I'll give VC a 4 on this post because that's what you gave it.

Ho hum, life must be boring when you have to review your own program again. Can't I even get a 'this sucks' review? :-)

Please note that 0.47 was a broken release. ;-)

Installed it, started it - then crash - couldn't debug - uninstalled it....

This program has evolved a lot since I last reviewed it. It still gets the same score cause I like it and its getting slicker each time I download it.

This program works just fine for me, although it appears that it needs a lot of help in creating the content required to make it truly useful.
One thing I did like was the ability to directly contact the developers in the result of a crash, which I was able to get it to do fairly easily since it is only Alpha software after all.
Would recommend the software to people interested in getting involved with the testing, but not end users yet.

Sorry to give such a low score, but it doesn't really seem to work on my PC. Clicking Save in the settings wizard at startup causes an unhandled exception. Clicking Cancel causes a handled exception but audio doesn't work. Unfortunately the program suffers from the typical Open-Source-bad-interface syndrome. It looks very dodgy, and even doing something simple like closing the About window hard locks the entire system for a couple of seconds. The menu looks mental (what's with the gigantic spacing?). As it's open source, I can actually help out rather than just blabbing about what should be done - so that's good!

Defiantly worth checking out, although in Alpha and still developing it's the perfect time to get involved and help testing to nail out any remaining bugs. Features similar to buzz machines and a great alternative four audio synthesis.
