I tried other IDEs (with other helpers), but VAX still has the BEST syntax highlighting, because it is based on language (C/C++) parsing, and i assume it is integrated with code completion.
There is no OpenSource counterparts with such features, as they explicitly distinguish code completion from syntax highlighting (both being context-dependant, without external file parsing).
Yes, VAX can be slow (and it is always slower than other solutions), but with 2Ghz CPU it really doesn't matters.
-1 point because in last version a very noticeable slowdown on code completion were introduced.

Kise:
One of the nice things about StrataFrame is that it does "Control Source" Data Binding, something that VS.NET shoulda had built in. http://www.strataframe.net/strataframeforvfp.aspx

There is also the MereMortals for .NET gizmo, which also has something like this.

This soft work really great if you use c++ (i'm working with visal c++ 6, and, trust me, it really help you).

When it come to .NET, i really dont think VisualAssistis usefull. Visual 2005 have a lot of great tools that are perfectly integrated with .NET.

Ok, I read some people think this speeds up development and some claims it won't.

My personal feeling is that VS2005 can autogenerate from DSL down to the level this "app" is trying to, and don't forget the auto refactoring tools included in VS2005.

So this app is kind of "useless" and powers only bad/lousy code structure.

My Comment about strataframe: Old stuff for .NET 1.1 developers (And No CRL support for new lang.

You could autogenerate a WSDL Proxy DataSource Object for databinding in both web and windows .NET apps based on your 5 minutes old DataBase Domain Model From SQL server 2005 that you created on the fly from VS2005.

I agree with VictorAnderson
All that is made by Microsoft quite enough for work for a programmer.
Even if this program would be free-of-charge I did not begin to spoil Visual Studio :(

BudoCoder - Interesting that you find it necesasry to make personal attacks when reviewing software...perhaps you work for these guys?....anyway I guess if a person typed real slowly or don't know the language syntax very well and needed some intellesense gizmo running to help them out, then yes - I can see how this would be helpful....but since I've been a programmer/systems analysit for 20+ years (sorry I missed the punch card era) I can type over 120 words per minute - and I've mastered the languages I'm working with now (C#, VFP, C++, etc etc) so I don't need the intellesense. I don't know who this group of "developers" are that BudoCoder is working with - but the guys here that I showed this thing to couldn't quit laughing. If you need some IDE intergration and you're a kindergarden programmer, by all means get this. If you want to come out and play with the real programmers - then try something like http://www.strataframe.net/

VictorAnderson has no clue. Then again he probably codes using FORTRAN punch cards. If you can't code to begin with then Visual Assit will only help you write bad code faster which is probably what happened to this guy.

I've used VA since version 4 (5 years now) and stand by it. I go between C#/C++/Java on a weekly basis so CodeRush, while great, will not cut it as it lacks support for C++.

With Visual Assist I would estimate that I am up to 2x more productive. Every coworker I've shown this to has loved it, and my team is now one of the most productive at Mentor Graphics.
This puppy rocks and I've used it for 5 years now.

Nice and helpful. The initial price ($149) for a subscription may be a bit high for what it offers. There are some compatibilty problems with VS .NET addins based on Developer Express DXCore (Coderush, Refactor Pro!,...).

If you really need this much help writing a program, you probably shouldn't be programming. Plus $100 for this thing is ridicilious.

Very good program.
Good highlighting and auto complete feature. Far better than the in built Intellisense.
I wish it was a freeware.
