After struggling though all the recent updates and bug fixes 2.2.3 is working OK......HOWEVER, severe weather alerts function still does not work. Developer advises that the fix will require a complete rewrite of the program and offers no time frame, so don't hold your breath.
Every weather app out there has severe alerts, without them the program is worthless.

Now a new problem with this version, it gets into a failure loop, it fails, it asks to send a report, which I try, it tells me I do not have a default mail client to send the report (My default client is GMAIL and it WORKS), you can not get out of the loop, I had to revert to V2.2.1.0, Wait for the FIX if you use windows XP SP3

I try others over the years, but Weather Pulse always outshines them. Even when it had quirky bugs. Love capacity to add more weather maps. New weather desklet pro add-add-on kicks butt on anything out. Still the best one around!

I revise my review. The reason the new install doesn't work so well, is the old UN-install leaves "CRAP" behind. Not only do you need to go to ADD/REMOVE programs and remove. You need to delete C:\Porgram Files\Weather Pulse, I then ran CCleaner, I reinstalled and now it's working as it was!! Remove ALL reminets before the new install!!

Worse than that it hangs my machine on shutdown and I have to Hard powerdown, it never had these problems until the new installer came out, don't bother with it!

Loses two stars because of admin rights required to run. Very sloppy.
To fix copy C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Weather Pulse folder to the user you want to run it under.
Folder Example:
C:\Documents and Settings\Example\Application Data\Weather Pulse
where Example is the user you would like run it under.
I am using Winxp Pro.
Again NOTHING should require admin rights to run and in rare circumstances to even install.

No real changes yet again. Still includes the adware "video" tab, and the associated adware. Be sure to click the "Report A Problem:" link on the right side of this page and report this crapware. Again, it is NOT freeware. It is adware.
y0himba reviewed v2.10 Build 8 on Apr 27, 2009
Still trying to keep his adware in the spotlight, there are no real changes to this decrepit, ad infesting, resource hungry, worthless piece of software. Stay away from this one, and the sketchy author as well. As several reviews state below, the software is poorly built, inserts advertisements in the form of "videos" which he creates, and the author is a sketchy individual preying on new and less than knowledgeable Internet users.
If you look at his "rating" system on the program's web site, he removes anything negative and attempts to ban the person/IP address from the site. He cannot even accomplish that, I wouldn't be surprised if he stole this code from someone. STAY AWAY.
Ed_P reviewed v2.10 Build 7 Beta on Sep 26, 2008
Weather Pulse was my original favorite weather app. However the interface is showing it's age and if you try to communicate that to the author on his website you get banned from posting. Even if you donated to his efforts originally!!
I suspect Topic Design is no longer involved and someone else has taken over the website and possibly the app.
Too bad really. It was a very good app at one time.
y0himba reviewed v2.10 Build 7 Beta on Sep 2, 2008
No real changes, just an attempt to put this back in the spotlight so the author can make money while foisting this off as freeware. It is not freeware, it is adware, and it is now junk.

I like it enough that I sent them a donation.
The temps are accurate and updated as the outside temps changed. I used an infra-red temperature gun to check the readings outside with the ones on Weather pulse and I get a variance of maybe only one degree.
I like the way this build is made. Many of the reviews below are old and may not apply to this new build.
y0himba reviewed v2.10 Build 5 Beta on Apr 21, 2008
The new version now includes an advertisement filled page created by the software maker, under the thin disguise of "future place for people to upload weather and outdoor videos".
This is now adware. It should be removed from here or classified as adware.

I like its design more than Weather Watcher, but it's no longer maintained, or not maintained well. For example, the (many) links to weather.com within the program don't work.
anomoly reviewed v2.10 Build 4 Beta on Dec 28, 2007
Needs ability to work with proxy/tor. There are no internet connection settings. Uninstaller leaves all reg entries AND the entire ap data folder behind. Tray tooltip does not display all options checked by user. Worst problem: needs a connect to internet directly setting/proxy.
It does not work at all if it cannot figure out how to update.

best free weather program and ive tried quite a few of them. 1st there was weatherbug ((spyware heaven)), then i went to weather.com's version and and it froze a lot, then there was weather watcher which had a hard time closing. i also tried forecast fox tho accuweather sux. so i tried this program it has not only weather.com weather in it but a 10 day forecast as well as nice sound effects.
the only complaint i have is it sometimes is a memory hog but this is still the best free weather program that doesnt have any viruses or spyware in it.
EarlyMorningHours reviewed v2.05 Build 36 on Aug 7, 2006
Finally, this is starting to become stable. Which means I can finally make use of it. I really like the interface of Weather Pulse more than any other of the free weather applications I've tried, so for this to start being dependable is fantastic. I will say that this uses a fair chunk of RAM. If you have 1GB or more of RAM, it's obviously not a concern, but if you're at 512MB like a good deal of people out there, you may feel a little memory challenged. With so many resident applications and utilities each taking up from 5 to 30MB a piece, 512MB RAM is starting to feel a little ghetto.

I have used this program for over a year and love it. I would recommend it to anyone. It has clean interface, lots of options and its free. On the bad side it is a little buggy and uses more memory than weather watcher. I now use WW but still highly recommend Weather Pulse to anyone.

EarlyMorningHours reviewed v2.05 Build 28 on Jan 10, 2006
I'm probably in the minority here, but I like the interface of this product than any other freeware weather utility out there. I'm giving it a couple of dings for being extremely buggy. I haven't given the latest build a complete hammering yet, but I really hope this becomes stable software sometime soon.
WeatherFreak reviewed v2.05 Build 27 on Nov 16, 2005
The interface is a bit weak when compared to other competing weather software. Weather Watcher's new interface is much easier to use, and is easier on my aging eyes.
To be constructive here, I'd have to recommend that Weather Pulse come up with some unique features. They seem to copy from other competing weather software. That's how they began, and they continue to do the same with every version released.
WeatherFreak reviewed v2.05 Build 26 Beta on Nov 7, 2005

It gets a bad review because it sucks. Flopix says he had permission from twc to use their data, but that is a flat out lie because the program does not adhere to a single requirement laid out by twc's sdk. Sorry, but I don't trust any developer who steals data and lies about. I found a much better weather program that does have permission from twc, looks better and runs better. email me for the address.

After using WeatherPulse for over a year, while testing all of the other similar free programs, I can tell you that this is absolutely the best program out there.
Some others have badmouthed this software. I'm not sure of their motives, but I suspect they had bad intentions when they reviewed this software. Do not believe them.
For a while, the Microsoft Anti-Spyware Application found a problem with the WeatherPulse Uninstall program. Evidently, this was a bug in WeatherPulse and the author has fixed the bug, so if you have uninstalled WeatherPulse because it was reported as spyware, reinstall it with the latest version, 2.05 Build 26.

PixelV2: Would you please provide more background on this! as it would be an issue if i (or others) help anyone to steal data, speacially WEATHER data! I think that private sector is doing great by investing millions of dollars yearly in collecting such weather conditions and not the gov. Hint to government: use our tax money and do it. They are (the commoners) steeling the private property off weather companies!!!

I love Weather Pulse but there is one thing that I don't like about it. For some reason I seem to et the same alert over and over and keep hearing the alarm sound. Once I get an alert that should be it until a brand new one comes out! Alos if I restart my pc I will always get the same Alarm again. Weather Pulse should remember that you alrady saw the alert. But its getting better all the time.

I'm in the middle on this one. I first tried Weather Pulse a couple of months ago and I loved it. However after the first Auto-Update things started going down hill. Even up to this latest beta version the problems still exist. What seems to happen is the program will crash while it's updating the weather information. The program itself and Windows both detect the error, but the program doesn't shutdown. It keeps running unresponsive.
This IS a good program. It just needs work. I'll certainly try it again once they release a "stable" build because despite that one issue this is the best weather program available.

I used this program of Mike singer before, and, it's a nice program, but the forecast-screen is not very easily to read on a 1280x1024 screen resolution, and most important, on my european computer with germany as local settings, it show me maps which are 3months old, or even worse! and this program seem to put all the desired data right where it belongs, namely, actual information on the weather just at my desktop without any bugs or hard-reading interfaces! so I give it a 5 because it does (at least for europeans) exactly THAT what we want! *thumbs up*

Newest version has problems with Windows 2000, will change my review when I can use it... :S

Terrific freeware. Gives excellent weather information in an intuitive interface.
Astro-SII reviewed v2.04 on Dec 25, 2004
Great weather app, installs quickly, is non intrusive on my system (no spyware/malware) and provides great weather information quickly and easily.

Da best...no longer need to watch the makeup-plastered, over-hairsprayed weatherman anymore...
A free weather program WITHOUT spyware...imagine that;)
CyberHobo reviewed v2.04 on Dec 25, 2004
I have one word... AWESOME! Consequently, I have fired my weatherman...
AlienChld7 reviewed v2.03 on Dec 16, 2004
This program is perfect in terms of features and ease of use. You can get the most relevant info from the tray icon alone, or you can open it up to show you more detailed info. There's no clutter to get in your way and is mostly customizable to show you the data that YOU want to see. Definitely the best program of its kind.
guevara reviewed v2.03 on Nov 18, 2004
Excellent
works fine for me
The best of them all

I threw Weatherbug Plus in the trash can after trialing Weather Pulse V2.01. Weather Plus efficiently provides needed weather info, 10-day forecasts, Doppler radar (animated), and severe weather alerting without being intrusive to a user's computer. NICE program!

May be their website is down, but program does not seam to work. Shows "XML not loaded" error for every click.

Refuses to update for me, and often requires to be closed and relaunched just to display new data.
tedbieri reviewed v1.55.9 Beta on Aug 13, 2004
I have been using this since it first came out and with every new version the hyperthread problem seems to get a little less. Now I only have to restart it once the get it to go. Maybe the next version it will start the first time. Then it will get a 5.

My tribute to Anders Celsius. For his metereological observations he constructed his world famous Celsius thermometer, with 0 for the boiling point of water and 100 for the freezing point. After his death in 1744 the scale was reversed to its present form. The scale is used everywhere outside of the US.

patmc7:
Visit weather.com and customize it there.
When updating weatherpulse with new conditions, it will show in metric units.
patmc7 reviewed v1.55.7 Beta on Aug 3, 2004
Definately needs Celcius for non-US users.

Pretty nice. Crashed on me a few times. Not really my style. Still good. Give it a 4.3 or so. :)
Still perfer Weather Watcher.

I was happy for it for a while, but I ran Weatherbug at the same time. They were both doing different temperatures (off by a degree F), but that's alright. The problem I had was the resources both were using. Weatherbug maxed at 8mb, currently running at 4mb while Weather Pulse maxed at 25mb, currently running at 14mb. For a program that displays simple number in the taskbar, I'd prefer the less eye-pleasing Weatherbug over the resource-eating Weather Pulse.
I realize that both do more than tell the temperature, but I simply need the number so I can decide how to dress or if it's a good day to go swimming, while being lazy and not moving.
Ehrihk reviewed v1.54 on Feb 3, 2004
This is the best weather program I have ever used! It does everything I want it to do and more!
TomekLutel reviewed v1.54 on Oct 25, 2003
Nice application, i'll give 5 if they would include metric units (Celcius degrees)
tannman1 reviewed v1.53.7.4b on Aug 18, 2003
well as far as weather pgms go this one does it's thing well. But how many times can you watch a weather point counter point??
roban reviewed v1.53.7.4b on Aug 18, 2003
This is the best weather program I have ever seen. It is fast as well as comprehensive. I just hope it remains free. Good work.
Hidden_Agenda reviewed v1.53.6 Beta on Jun 5, 2003
This program is by far the best freeware weather program out there. It has a good interface, and has no advertisements. A must have if you like to keep an eye on the weather.
--------------
Also, here are instructions on how to get the program to use metric units:
Metric can be displayed as follows.
In Weather Pulse, go to weather.com, from the link at the bottom of the forecast page or the 10 day forecast page.
Once there, scroll down past the 10 day forecast section. At the bottom the 10 day forecast are two radio buttons for
English units or Metric Units Click on the Metric Units radio button.
When you return to Weather Pulse, you selection will be displayed.
If the cookie gets deleted, it will go back to US measurements, so don't let a cookie manager delete the cookie or you will have to do it all over again..
Var_Doctor reviewed v1.53.6 Beta on Jun 3, 2003
Excellent weather program - with no annoying ads to contend with...quite superior to weather-watcher.. although weather-watcher is a good program...this one is far better.
*One short-coming the program has is in setting up city under preferences - When you select the city or cities you want to add...you then save them...then you have to exit the open window and yes in the new window again save the city you already saved in the previous step.....or the program won't do it's thing and update your weather...we find this part of the program to suffer from redundancy... to...do...to do...to..do..to...do...
Get the idea...Fix this short-coming and it will be GREAT...program...
Keep trying....
webmast reviewed v1.53.6 Beta on Jun 3, 2003
Excellent!
Many of you have down graded it because of metric but the program does do Metric. In Weather Pulse, go to weather.com, from the link at the bottom of the forecast page. Once there, scroll down past the 10 day forecast section. At the bottom the 10 day forecast are two radio buttons for English units or Metric Units Click on the Metric Units radio button. When you return to Weather Pulse click refresh and magic metric!
Mii reviewed v1.53.6 Beta on Jun 3, 2003
While the program looks good, *any* program that's dead set on only showing temperature in F really can't be used outside those old-timer countries who don't understand standardization ;-)
Had it had the option of displaying C instead, I'd give it another two notches - seems decent enough even if the dinky little tray number was hard to read - Weather Watcher's rather easier to read.
malcolm.spudbury@toytownmunich.c reviewed v1.53.6 Beta on Jun 3, 2003
Looks like a good program, but it would be nice if it had proxy support so I could use it at work.

This prog is great. It's even better than weather watcher.

There's a slight error, when I exit out of the icon in the system tray. I get "Access violation at address 0048DFC2 in module WEATHERPULSE.EXE. Read of address FFFFFFFF."
No biggie, just a minor glitch. I'm using a Compaq with a Duron 700 mHz cpu, under Windows Me.

I have tryed many of these weather programs and this is the first one that is easy and has everything in one spot. No spyware! Not a mem sucker! No ads. And FREE! 5 stars!
neslev2003 reviewed v1.53.5 Beta on May 27, 2003

no support for temperatures in Celsius
ghammer reviewed v1.52 on May 22, 2003
Nice app! It will make you think it is hung though when you first install it. Allow it about 5 minutes to get the weather info and images the first time. After that initial start, all is pretty fast and I like the display. I live in China and most weather apps will only get the currect temp. This gets all the data, forecast, satellite, etc.
Equal to programs costing up to $25.00 and best, it's free! Give it a try!
