Has good email protection. Monitors all ports to prohibit unauthorized port scanning or any other type of system intrusion.

Crashes constantly under Vista Home Basic lately. Changed to Privatefirewall 7.0, that is practicly the same firewall, also free and worked for me.

Webroot FW (WFW) includes Dynamic Security Agent, a full-scope classical Host-based Intrusion Protection System (HIPS). This HIPS greatly enhances your antivirus program by offering behavior-blocker protection against zero-day and other unknown malware.
The firewall component of WFW uses a powerful Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), and is fully configurable with rules setting to cover the preferences of any user. However, WFW offers excellent protection right out of the box, as well.
WFW is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista, INCLUDING 64bit Vista.
Highly recommended.

Slows the boot. Too many alarms, especially when installing, uninstalling or updating programas. Some alarm windows appear behind other windows, not in the right lower corner.

To sirred2000 you need it in order to get the program installed.(Duhh...^_^) But the program is free and you only have to give a name and a email addie when you register for a key code. Which is less typing then you hat to when you registered here. ^_^
As for the program itself, i have been using it for 2 months now and i like it a lot better then those firewalls i used before it. So far i haven't noticed a thing about it that i do not like.
Very low on resources, doesn't pop up as much like Comodo..is easy to use and as far as i am aware there is no catch to Webroot Desktop firewall. With that i mean that it is fully functional, no limit ware...nagware or whatever.

Hey! bokhylla
If this free why do I need a key to install?

I think you "Papa Lazarou" have missed the point. All outbound traffic are allowed for 7 days as Webroot Desktop Firewall is in a learning mode during that period, that is in Webroots own words: "new intelligent, "learning" firewall. It "watches" what you do; then learns from your activity to only interrupt you for abnormal activity". After 7 days Webroot will warn you if a new activity is trying to reach the internet. Not everyone likes Comodos intruding and annoying pop up windows. I think this is a very good firewall. It is light on memory, all ports are in stealth and it is free as a bird!

I cannot ignore radiomaffia's spam concerning Fort Knox firewall. That firewall is rated "poor" by all current & reputable firewall tests. See example HERE. Not to put it too bluntly, but Ft Knox firewall is an over-priced holey wonder. ^_^
Webroot firewall is re-branded Private firewall, & includes DSA - a Host-based Intrusion Protection as well as a full-on Stateful Packet firewall. When you visit the above test link, check out the rating for Private firewall & compare it with the rating for FtKnox. Then decide for yourself.

An Excellent update of the already top notch Dynamic Security Agent. Slow to start? Are you kidding? Mine is XP SP2 Celeron 2.13 and Have no problems with it whatsoever.

Too slow to load when Windows XP starts. It seems also to slow the loading of Webroot Antivirus. Comodo loads much faster.

I really enjoy a firewall that decides your web browser is a problem and shuts it down without any simple way of allowing you to reestablish the browser's trustworthiness. Also, it is really a joy learning that windows update is a bad website and there are limited instructions on how to allow it.
This thing needs better help files and a reset to factory defaults for those times you muck something up. (Yes, I admit user error cause firefox to be blocked, but I could not find any instructions on how to unblock it).

This is a rebranded Private Firewall - the latest version. PFW is VERY powerful Effective SPI. Anomaly filters. Email surge filter. Good in all leak tests. Highly recommended. An amazing freebie.

Not a bad firewall, altho rather basic and is not likely to confuse the newest user. You can do little more than accept or refuse permission to access the internet plus a couple of other minor settings.Note, the licence is only for one years support and updates.Ram useage around 6 meg
