A very bad release. I have installed it on a fresh copy of Windows XP home OEM. This update completly destroyed my operating system. I had to format my hard disk and install a fresh copy of windows XP. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT OR TRY TO INSTALL!

Downloaded and ran the "short installation" version with no problems.
Received error "cannot locate server" when the computer looked for files to download to computer.
After several tries, I am downloading the full version.
Apparently, MS server is not capable of downloading all request that are sent to it??
Maybe I am trying at the wrong time of the day, or the wrong day of the week.
I have experenced this problem with MS before while updating software.

My system worked perfectly. Installed the service pack. Had serious problems with Windows Explorer. Uninstalled the service pack and ran a system restore. Everything now fine again. So this little offering is a big non-starter on my system.

This continued to fail downloading about 25% of the way through installing on multiple machines. Using the full install worked fine.

I can't give a very good rating to this, as I cannot install it. I keep getting the error that my internet is not working. I checked and even when it's saying this I can still browse the web. Every util I have is working perfectly on the internet...

CloneCD works fine here,I would recommend the network install over this one anytime. At least it is only a once off download, with this one if your system dies or you upgrade you have to go through the whole process again. At least the network install can be slipstreamed into your install CD.But its your bandwidth and your time the choice is yours.

annmariet30:
This IS the final release. What you need to understand is that SP2 WILL break software that doesn't conform to standards. Developers will have to recode their software to make it work correctly. The documentation for developers has been on Microsoft's site for months.
Personally, I think SP2 is a great upgrade (especially from an administrator's point of view).

So this is the same download that will go through the Auto. Updates starting Monday?
tstuart: I think either the download site is flooded or Microsoft hasn't turned on the servers yet.
