To be honest, I expected less from that program. I was amazed by its simplicity and functionality. Of course, using MIrc is an alternative, however with a lot of channels and servers, mirc confuses me. The available xdcc scripts for mirc are rather simple and don't work that well. In my opinion this is a great product. Keep up the good work.

Ruby is a programming language, like C# or Java. Java and C# are more common, but Ruby is much easier to use, and the runtime is also much smaller than the .NET or Java runtime. It also is very platform independent, runs on Linux, Windows, BSD, etc.
Everybody is welcome to write a .NET or Java clone, but you can be shure that this is much more work.

I think this program gives IRC-Ork a good run for its money. I also applaud its minimalist and functional design.
I agree that the Ruby downloads diminish the value of this otherwise lightweight client. I believe the purpose of coding in Ruby is to showcase the widgetability of that programming language. I would suggest that the authors consider coding it in .NET which is available for Windows, OS X, and Linux. See http://www.mono-project.com/downloads/. If the author is not into the whole Microsoft thing, there's always Java and C.

Why would I want this program when you first have to go download a program called " Ruby ", which is 12 megs in size, install it, then it says I have to unpack these Xdcc files , then I got to double click on the XdccFetch.rbw file, then enter a server name from IRC, then enter a channel where the bots are serving files, etc etc... I tried it, and its a whole lot of work. In my opinion all I need to do is run mIrc, log into my favorite channel or channels, and when I see a file I want from a bot I simply type in the command to get that file. This program is more for someone who likes to do a lot of work or uses Linux. Anyhow its definately not for me. If you download this you will need to download that RUBY installer, then follow all the instructions on the RUBY page or you wont know how this even works.
Personally, I will stick with mIrc, its proven a winner for years and it isnt a 12 meg program.
Maybe I'm missing something or dont fully understand this one, I thought you just installed it, run it, and it would bring in a list of available files from the bots in IRC channels.
Its not for everyone thats for sure.. Rate it a 1 on my scale.

Really useful; I was impressed by its speed. I can't wait to see the final version.
Oh, and yes: The nightly contains several bugfixes and is currently more stable than the release:

Despite the fact that there are minor bugs present in the current version, XDCC-Fetch is a more complete download "facility" than any other xdcc script/program i've seen so far.
The fact that it is open source makes it even better. I rate the program a 4, since it's not completley stable and because I miss some configuration features. However, this program will definitely go up on 5, when new releases are available.
