I've run a preliminary test on this program and it appears to work fine. The interface is nice and easy to use. It really does squeeze in the extra MB to fit your CD format. I performed a selective backup on a partition with the CD size set at 700 MB. It produced four ZIP files - 699, 698, 699, 698 MB. Not bad at all!
I did experience a little problem and that was when performing a virus scan on these files. Some of the path names were shortened. I'm not sure whether this was due to my antivirus or the program. I did push it rather hard, choosing a compression level of 7 (the highest.)
I shall rerun the test set at a lower (default 6) compression level and see if there's any difference.
There are a couple of features which are nice for Windows users. One of these is the registry sort where the program checks for duplicate registry keys and optimises it.
Another thought that crossed my mind was the limit of 700 MB. There are 900 MB CDs already available and there will soon be the option to (inexpensively) backup 4 GB.
These are just small adjustments to quite an interesting program. It bridges the gap between backing up sets of files and burning mirror images.
