Publisher's Description

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security integrates the web browser security of ZoneAlarm ForceField with the PC and Internet security of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite. ZoneAlarm has been emphasizing the need for anyone with any security suite, from ZoneAlarm or Norton or anyone else, to add new web browser security to combat the new wave of threats that are targeting browsers. ForceField delivers virtual browsing, anti-phishing, download protection, key log jamming, privacy controls and more to protect the browser and everything you do on the web. This beta is the first time ZoneAlarm (or really anyone) has integrated comprehensive security of both types into one product.

For many users that are looking for a good anti-virus/firewall application, don’t try Zone Alarm Extreme. Unless you are very skilled with computer configurations and have the patience & now-how to configure this over-sized mother of an application, I highly recommend that you stay clear of this baby.
The program will slow your computer down to a near Holt, it will take up to 40 minutes to down load the virus definitions, even if you have a very fast connection with your ISP. You will have extreme difficulty accessing your internal network and your computer will run very, very slow.
If you do decide to install this application, do so, on the trail basis only. Do not apply the recommended install procedure, use the custom install, but be very carefully, as the default install procedure is very flawed.
I have been using Zonealarm for many years, this one kills it for me, just tossed away nearly $60 on a piece of cripple-ware.

Not only is their software mediocre, now they join the ranks of SCAREWARE programs that pretend you're infected to make you buy an upgraded version.

Why bring up Gibson? He was a shill for ZA, in case you weren't aware. He started this whole ridiculous sham about being "stealthed".

Today, all flavors of ZoneAlarm are crap.

What happened to the days when Steve Gibson showed us that all firewalls were junk compared to ZA, and he was right? Now it is the opposite. I struggled for years trying to maintain my love for this program, but whats the use? If a screwed up PC that does nothing, brought to you by a company that cares nothing is your cup of tea this crap is for you. Otherwise stay away.

I used this on and off for some years.

Interesting to see the decline of software. We are the witnesses to it. ZoneAlarm, was once a fine piece of software, then they decided to make MORE security. Right about there is where they lost it. It blocked the wrong things, I got virusses and what not.

.... Enough said.

I know that I sometimes sound like an Eset salesperson, but their System Security product is just head and shoulders above other offerings. I've tried many other security programs and nothing else even comes close.

OK. What new version of ZoneAlarm did for me.

Browsers freezes every 10 minutes. Check.

Computer crashes every day. Check.

Internet connection repair needed every few days. Check.

After I unistalled it, no problems whatsoever. Check.

While it seems Checkpoint is finally trying to support Vista x64 with this release it is only in 32-bit compatibility-mode. IMHO security programs of this level running on a 64-bit OS must be 64-bit apps themselves rather than a half-assed port.

Until Checkpoint gets with the program they will never get more than 3 stars from me.

No, it's not free. And ZA has degraded from a once good and easy to use personal firewall to a slow memory hog :-( Just when I started to worry my fave Comodo Firewall is getting a bit "huge" along came ZA with it's impressive (NOT) 77MB download.

...does anyone else miss the lieght-weight simplicity, yet effectiveness, of good ol' @Guard?

"The question is, is this going to just be free for the beta or free forever"
_____________________________________________
ZA says that beta builds expire in 60 days according to their web site. Along that there is no tech support for this beta product. One can safely assume that when the beta expires an upgrade to the GM will apply and those who have a valid license will be able to upgrade. That being said it appears the product will cost money. Nice offer though to try it free for sixty days. Nice product.

One look at the "Enter License Key" on the screenshot makes it pretty clear that this will not remain free.

That said, I am intrigued.

More review later....

Yeesh. I have long enjoyed ZA's suite. It's stable, has improved significantly in terms of memory usage, and has done a solid job of protecting me from he villainous wilds of "teh internets."

However, this new product is far from ready for prime time. All of the old features are still there, and still working great (firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware, etc.), but this coding disaster that is "ForceField" is beyond awful. All of the browsers on my system (IE7, Masthon, Firefox, Opera) literally drag to a crawl that would make a drunk, one-legged, obese turtle look downright meteoric.

No thanks.
