It seems GemX have renewed life and their new version 4 is kickass.
I love their new bug tracker so we users can report bugs and request new features. The new version feels faster and more stable than before. I'm really happy now. Especially as they have a roadmap for all to see and the things on it are really quite exciting.

Thumbs up and kudos to the gemmy dev team for renewing life into this great bit of software.

I am a many-year user of TexNotes but their website is totally unresponsive and the company appears to be defunct. DoOrg development also appears to be at a standstill. I am looking (in panic) for a TexNotes alternative in order to export my thousands of notes...

This software was awful. Groggy and slow, it slowed down my entire system. Appears to be feature rich but most tools are redundant i.e. scribe, journal and notes..all the same.

I have to note that the developer seems to have a renewed committment to this product. As an organizer, I still find it a little clunky, but it is unsurpassed as a Journal.

If only developers hear the customers...
It will be the best PIM if devcelopers do their work, otherwise the software seems discontinued as the other products from Gem-X.

Forums closed after some customer complaints. I aslo made my complaints in their blog and some days later the blog was closed and dissapear from their website. They launch the 3.0.9 update but I can't see any change, always same stupid bugs, no improvements, no hearing customer...

A great program without future, so that's my 1 point.

If Gem-X can't afford the development of their products, it's better to sell the software to good programmers or make it open source so the people who paid for their software will be listen.

I can't bring myself to give this a one - it held great promise and would be a world beater if it was finished. However, as others have noted it is buggy and apparently no longer supported. The developers closed down the support forums in mid-August (right after I purchased a licence) to "migrate to a different server" and they have never reappeared. E-mails, DSM, and comments to their blog are met with absolute, deafening silence, no updates or news have been released since June and they are not even responding to refund requests. My advice to anyone considering ANY GemX product is BUYER BEWARE - you will be paying for unsupported software.

This could be a nice product, pretty complete, if, yes if there were not those quite obvious bugs.
And then one gets to know the really really horrible service, customer abusing included.
I tried the evaluation version which, as they say, is the same as the licensed version.
There is quite a number of very obvious bugs in the program which could have been eliminated during beta phase easily. This is simply negligent programming.
Once you tell them and complain it won't be long until they insult you, start wasting your time and try letting you, the customer do their work.

They claimed that v3.09 was going to be released over 2 months ago to fix the very annoying reminders bug (Where reminders popup repeatedly even after being dismissed, and also popping up PRIOR TO THE reminder setup in the event) yet this has not been the case. Their forums have been down "for a server move" for over 2 weeks now, they arent responding to email support or DSM support (their touted support mechanism), and phone calls to them are going unreturned after leaving messages during NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS.

They recently (about 3 months ago) added me to the beta test team, I guess as a way to silence me from posting such negative reviews, but there has been almost NO activity on that front as only 1 beta release has been posted since my being allowed access to it.

The software is good, but I keep finding more bugs which get their standard "Maybe/Someday" tag on their forums meaning that they arent sure whether or not they will fix it.

I am tempted to ask for a refund since the support I am "receiving" is far worse than any I've encountered thus far. The fact that it took me nearly 2 weeks to receive registration info after purchase was unacceptable, and the way I am being treated as a PAYING customer is preposterous.

Do-organizer is pretty good software. It is original and allows for a lot of customisation. As PIMs go, its one of the best. As stated below however, they publicise their excellent customer support. My experience is that this couldn't be further from the truth. If you buy their software, prepare yourself for a lot of aggrivation. They ignore their users, insult them and are generally very arrogant. They basically do not have the people skills to do proper customer support. Its a shame that they cannot see this and their company and software will suffer as a result of this unless they get their act together.

For the past week and a half, I have been trying to register with GemX.com's support forums. This has been a trial and more trouble than I have ever had to go through to get support from what seems to be a good company on the surface. They have "Admin approval" setup for all forum accounts. This is all well and good if the admins MONITORED IT. I have had to re-register 5 times and each time my account is deleted after 24 hours after being in "Pending admin approval" status. I have sent numerous emails to them asking about the status of my account. I have even had a buddy of mine use his VoIP line and call them only to get no answer on the number listed on their site. People rave about their support, however, I cannot get support when I am trying to evaluate their program and contemplating shelling out $90 for their product. This is a poor practice if you ask me.

I have tried every possible contact method only to not get any response via any of them. I even Priority mailed a letter asking these same questions to them and I got delivery confirmation so I know it was received.

This product is unmatched. It has so many features you wont know what to do with it. You pay only for the modules you require which makes it greater although some of these should be default for an Info Manager (contacts, calendar). Even offering a pre-built package which is discounted over purchasing the modules separately would be nice.

That said, if I can ever get ahold of their support to answer my trial questions, I will gladly pay for this program. But until then, this program gets a 2/5 for poor customer support and a few bugs which might be getting addressed in a future release (I have no way of knowing since I cannot use their forums).

I have already purchased the base program via trialpay, and gotten no response from anyone at GemX. I plan to shell out alot of extra money (alot for me) for the modules I require (contacts, calendar, tasks, planner, reports, etc) but if I cannot get ahold of anyone, I will be asking for a refund of the money I paid to trialpay for obtaining this copy.

Also, to davidbean, just because you dont have bugs and someone else does, doesnt mean they are working for the competition or have something agsinst GemX. I have nothing against GemX but I dont like the fact that I've registered the base program via their trialpay system and cant even get a forum account registered for the past 1.5 weeks or a confirmation email with my product key for their base program.

Wow! GemX scores very high for me in support. It sure outdoes many sites I know... I've always had excellant service from them and the software is outstanding! I seriously doubt the motives of people who say they deserve a (1 or 2) rating... I even question the honesty of such a report...

This is by far the best planner software I've tried yet -- and I've tried a lot of them.

At first it was a bit intimidating because there are just so many features, but it really didn't take as long as I first thought to get the hang of it. It does everything that I've always wanted planner software to do and then some. I really couldn't be more impressed.

And it's so customizable. I love that. As much time as I spend working with a planner, I want to make it "me" and I can do that with this more so than with anything else I've tried.

I don't know why "rudnick" is having problem with GemX support. My experience with their support is very satisfactory. I always had a relevant answers and offer of help when needed.

I have purchased doO version 2 and have been happily using it since for my all kinds of information organization needs. True there has been some bugs but I haven't seen any other software developers fixing knowing bugs as fast as Gemx Software. I have updated to version 307 and I don't agree with rudnick's claim of full of bugs. Simply it's not true. This leads me to think that rudnick may either has something against Gemx software or talking on behalf of competition. As a long standing user of this application I found hard to accept rudnick's claims.

Keep up the good work Gemx software. Don't let people like rudnick put you off.

Emails are available for review for anybody interested. There is nothing to be taken the wrong way, no room for any misunderstandings. If I had somebody in my service department treating customers that way I would fire them.
The bugs are so obvious on the other side that one doubts that there was a beta phase before.
At the end of the day a user is paying money for the product, not for the efforts to get it right, particularly not for getting abused by the personnel.

ahart

ahart reviewed v3.0.7.0 on Apr 11, 2007

I seriously doubt your review of GemX support rudnick. For me, their support was excellent. Same day answers and they answer you concise and accurate. When they can't do something they say so. I would rather them saying "not possible at present", rather then promising something that never comes.

Sure it has some minor bugs, but doesn't every piece of software? At least GemX acknowledges this and release update fixes.

You probably tried asking something from them but took it the wrong way. Judging by the response on their public forum, they appreciate the hard work that goes into making something this complex and complete.

But I do agree with your view on the software. This has to be my choice for an organizer.

rudnick

rudnick reviewed v3.0.6.0 on Apr 4, 2007

This is a very great product and I agree that it is very complete, nice to work with, visually appealing, and has an attractive price tag attached.
But the service is horrible.
I tried the evaluation version which, as they say, is the same as the licensed version.
There is quite a number of very obvious bugs in the program which could have been eliminated during beta phase easily.
Once you tell them it won't be long until they insult you and start wasting your time and try letting the customer do their work.
There is a difference between a customer and a member of a programming club. Once they realize that difference and start to work on the program it's going to be a 1st class product.

Yea, the more I think about it, the more the section-pricing scheme seems brilliant. You're essentially building your own modular customization of the program!

I've been using do-Organizer for quite a while now and I believe that you won't find a better tool for organizing your information. Do-Organizer is complete, useful and reliable. In regard to the developers, I like their vision and their concern for users. It scores high in reliablity or stability for me despite "some" little bugs. Afterall, you have bugs in all software. I've tried literally hundreds of pims and others that apparently organize information. But nothing comes close to doing what do-Organizer does. As far as I'm concerned, do-Organizer ALONE meets my needs. As one review states below: use it for some time, at least one month, and you'll see the difference. You won't be able to let go... do-Organizer is that good! Today, after all that I've been through, I can say that I've found a product that I can count on. I won't switch back to anything else, and I wouldn't recommend anything else either. So give it a try - you'll see, it's fantastic!!

I have been using do-O nearly two years now. I got their latest release and updated my version 2 to 3. This application was already a god-sent tool for me but now I see that it's getting better and and better. I salute developers of this fine application for their hard work and patience with the users like me. I always got the help when I needed even some of the questions I raised was born purely from my stupidity.

I feel really bad when I see comments of some people like "krutz" and "Raven Sati" Are these people serious or what. I think they just enjoy mucking things or they are jealous. Or maybe they are working for competition..

As a heavy user of this application, I would recommend anybody interested in some form info organization application should download and make their own mind.

By the way, I do run my own business and DO NOT work for the developers of do-organizer.

krutz

krutz reviewed v3.0.0.8 on Nov 23, 2006

This is more like a Betaversion than a stable and finished product. Most of the features are bugged or not working as intended. Instead of implementing tons of new features, the Autors should fix the existant ones.

lots of bells and whistles - but misses utilizing what we have known from neuroscience for the last 10-15 years about how humans interact with personal organizing tools. looks like the development crew are writing their own reviews to get a high rank on this site.

It's fitting that GemX gives you 60 days to evaluate do-Organizer — it can do anything you can imagine, or better put, anything that your brain can think of to do. It is the ultimate organizer, in large part because it leaves nothing behind. By the time you've mastered do-Organizer, you will have mastered yourself. The program provides layers of tutorials to help get you started and keep you diving ever deeper into this... experience. The calendaring features alone are unmatched by any other program, and calendaring is perhaps its smallest feature! Just try it for at least three weeks. And then, if you think the price is still too high, fine. I've changed my mind — I can do that, right? — about this being overpriced because it takes the place of so many other small apps on your desktop that you'll love knowing you can house all your schedules, info, and content in one place and know they can be exported with great accuracy to any other app. And because of its Mind-mapping and search features, you'll never lose another thought because of how do-Organizer connects all the dots for you. In the end do-Organizer will make you completely rethink what you thought a PIM could do, I promise that much.

Don't evaluate do-Organizer for a day or a week. Use it for 21-30 days and judge for yourself.

BetaBudd

BetaBudd reviewed v2.3.1 on Aug 26, 2006

do-Organizer manages all your information with a special focus on LINKS. You can link information between different modules. That's a powerful way to organize information. do-Organizer's ability to consolidate all your information makes this application highly valuable. I won't use anything else!!!

zridling

zridling reviewed v2.3.1 on Aug 2, 2006

After spending two days using it, I love the interface. There is customizability through and through, and do-Organizer really extends itself into any program you have by sharing and playing well with others. For example, I converted a set of notes into CSV and opened them in Excel 2007 with exact formatting accuracy. I further tested its export and import capabilities with Microsoft OneNote, Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, IE7, and even my RSS reader. It handled them all without a hitch, which, frankly, surprised me! No doubt that GemX provides one of the most responsive websites for its users in the industry. do-Organizer is so deep you'll be able to discard several other supporting programs.
_________________
However, beyond the evaluation, I cannot afford this app at $89. For all it does, it justifies that price, it really does. But it's beyond my personal budget. That's my only negative, and it has nothing to do with do-Organizer's otherwise overall excellence.
