Publisher's Description
jIRCii is a Java IRC Client that is meant to provide a console client experience with the advantages of a GUI client. You can IRC through one window ala ircii or IRC through multiple windows ala mIRC. Fully scriptable with a perl-like language called sleep. Solid scripting documentation included. Tons of built in commands. Supports DCC and CTCP protocols as well.

I've gone off this now. Originally I wanted a java client and its definatly great for this. But I've recently gone off java a fair amount, and now use HydraIRC which runs well.

Solid java client. If I were using linux this would be the client I'd use. Sadly mIRC on windows outperforms it right now..

until handling of irc:// links is implemented (which, as the auther stated, seems impossible) i will not even consider switching to this client. If they were handled, id switch in an instant!

if there was a "0" i would have given it a 0- also cause that's the rating it should have. As an IRC scripter i hate it very much!!!

mIRC will be hard to beat as an IRC client. But keep in mind that this product is programmed in Java an can be run on any VM. If you have to work on different OS this software will be the exact same on all of them.

I luv it. Haven't tried any other IRC clients before so I can't really compare it, however it does the job i need it to, so can't really ask any more of it can i!

its a great client.. would replace hydrairc for me if it could handle irc:// urls from my browser

I dont give it 5 (and there is no 4.9)...because i wont change MIRC for It...Reason:
No Proxy support.
But it seems to be a Really good Product...And Freeware...opensource...Really Nice.

This is by far the best thing thats happened to irc in a long time. Hydrairc development is incredibly slow, and mirc is shareware. This is better then mirc and has faster development then hydra.

the gui is pretty customizable contrary to what I thought after a first look... (shift+left mouse button changes almost any colour, ctrl+shift+lmb in some cases).
furthermore I like being able to switch between open channels with ctrl+# and server windows with alt+#.
if you want a nice looking non-bloated free cross platform (open source) irc client this is your choice no 1!
PS: make sure you have a recent java re installed - some old versions act weird :x

Zorty, the reason you can't connect is because you haven't filled out all of the required information in the setup dialog.
Click View -> Options and then go to Setup and make sure you fill in a value for "Real name:", "Email Address:", and "Nickname". You can make these values be anything i.e. you don't have to put your real email address in.
I thought I had some safeguards in there to create a default value if something wasn't filled out. I'll look into it for beta 9. In the meantime I hope the above helps you out.
(Note, I'm the author of jIRCii... I would have replied without posting a rating except betanews won't let me. So assume a bias)

rsmudge: you are right! I just looked into it.
As email address I used @_@ ... which seemed to be a bad idea...
The GUI is great! Definitely one of the sweetest java GUIs I've ever come across..
...but darn it I couldn't connect to any irc server :| probably my fault, but couldn't locate the problem.
