Not bad, but nowadays, TurboIRC seems a better light-weight alternative to me.

I did as you said and it's nowhere to be found by ESET Nod32 atleast.
Just want to let you know that i realize that these things are quite common in many mIRC addons/scripts same goes with a few utilities that are used for changing the behaviour in Windows.

I will crank up my rating to a 5 since the author has done a overall good job.

Here is a screenshot of ESET NOD32 reporting.

I will rate it as 3 since im not sure if this is an exploit/trojan or whatever or just AV software detecting something wrong.
Just doesn't look too good.

see scan.png in the main folder, clamwin consistently STILL reports 0, count 'em ZERO, infections.

most of the files included in mpp have been there for years. only recently have scanners such as avast or norton antivirus started reporting possible problems.

i have never been made aware of any known exploits for mpp. any files that are detected can be quarantined at your discretion without having any major negative impact to the normal usage of mpp.

This is Sgt-d's best work to date! He has really worked hard to take care of all the bugs and issues in previous versions on this one. Adding Bytecam was a great addition too. Kudos to you D!! This is my most used program by FAR!! Who could ask for more?

please email me (use the link on this page) and tell me the exact scanner you are using that is detecting "irc.lambot backdoor" - and what files in mpp are affected. at least then i can look into it. i'm rating it 5/5 again becuase i always scan mpp with nav 2005 before i upload it - and one reported infection shouldn't penalize the rating so badly - especially without full disclosure so i can adequately investigate the problem. i'm guessing you are using ms antispyware or some other tool that might not be widely used, i'm not sure though because i have no information. i would never upload mpp if any part of it failed my own scans. mpp has also reported to scan clean with avg 7.0 free:

(12:37:52 PM) it shows 6
(12:37:59 PM) :)
(12:38:02 PM) j/k
(12:39:39 PM) no virus

thank you,

Most of the features are only useful for people who play online games. There is a nice Away system and a few "Pop-Ups" if that's your thing though. The program does what it says.

The reason my rating is so low: irc.lambot backdoor

I have been using MPP for about three years now and have tried most of the other "big" mIRC scripts out there. Mpp, IMHO, blows them all away. It is big, yes, and it has lots of things that perhaps you'll never use, but this program is CONSTANTLY being rewritten and changed according to what the users want.
Recently, also, there have been MAJOR changes...to the MPP control center and even the way MPP connects making it even more enjoyable and quicker to start. Channel keys are remembered. Also the new installers do not destroy your old settings now, making upgrades a snap. In fact, everyday I make new and wonderful discoveries about what this script can do - STILL(after three years), using this awesome mIRC script! Thanks for all your hard work Sgt-d! MPP rulez!!

my original post was simply here to address the negative comments (and ratings) simply because end users weren't paying attention during the installation --- and that more important features simply can't/won't be seen during the first five minutes of using mpp. it just takes time to see everything that mpp does... just like ircn or any other script for that matter.

i couldn't find a way to modify my review here on the site, but i wanted to rephrase what i had said regarding automatic channel password memorization. it's not that other scripts don't have this feature - potentially they all could have it - but most of the scripts that i've used in the past didn't have this ability at the time i had last used them.

now i know for a fact that i missed at least one (ircn), and there might be more. curious, has ircn always had this ability?

i used ircn a long time ago, in fact it was the last script i remember using before i started working on mpp.

i might be a little off on some of these next points, but i'm trying to present it honestly and accurately.

knowing that ircn has been out longer than mpp, these things are a little underwhelming...

while ircn might be better than mpp in some areas, it's still sorely lacking in its "out of box experience". their newest installer is almost a year old, and truthfully it's not really an installer, it's just a pkzip self-extractor. when the "installer" has finished extracting folders/files you end up with a folder structure that is 100% useless unless you manually download mirc.exe from somewhere and then read the ircn docs on how to load ircn. the folder structure also contains 15 empty folders. it's all manual. there are no start menu items, no desktop or quick launch shortcuts - and no uninstaller. then they tell you to use mirc 5.91 or if you use 6.x to completely avoid multiple networks in mirc 6.x. all of this is fine for true ircn fans, and most capable mirc users wouldn't have any problems with it... but it's not very easy for first time users of ircn or mirc.

mpp has nice, fully graphical installers that assist you every step of the way, from downloading and installing optional packages (none are required), to selecting a download mirror/location (only used if needed) and setting up your installation folder and start menu. once installed you will have start menu, quick launch and desktop shortcuts (all are optional), and you will have the ability to uninstall mpp with windows' add/remove programs control panel applet. on the first launch of mpp it will help you download and install mirc.exe. nothing is manual, there is no reading required, the newest version of mirc is almost always required and you can easily setup 30 servers. once mirc is installed, mirc is automatically launched and you are introduced to the mpp control center (mcc). mcc in its current form is a program theory that shows how nice mirc options really could be (instead of khaled's current mirc options dialogs, which almost everyone agrees need improvement). once you are up and running you have a ton or mirc tools at your disposal, already built in, including game browsers. with little or no fuss you have a fully functional installation.

some argue that there is too much in mpp. my counter argument is that there is too little in mirc.

anyway, i liked ircn, acidmax, invision. there were others. i personally like mpp a little better. well, ok, i might be a little biased. :)

i won't post any more replies, i just wanted to say a few things here real quick. feel free to email me or post to the mpp forums at www.sodctfs.com.

thanks,

i just wanted to quickly address some recent posts. first of all, the installer clearly tells you that optional components will require additional downloads and that they might range in size anywhere from 6mb to 33mb each. additionally, you have to select a mirror for the additional download - so the fact that downloads might be needed is painfully obvious - unless you click next 50 times without even looking. lastly, you can click cancel or escape during any download to stop them - none are required.

also, all of the builds since mpp 7.00 were deliberately toned down visually because i wanted to get everything working better. rc2 is more graphical.

finally, mpp does many things that other scripts cannot. it has features like color themes that were available over a year before mirc ever offered color themes. it has automatic channel key management - something i've never seen anywhere else, not even mirc can remember your channel passwords for you. in mpp it's fully automatic.

what i'm saying is that these things won't be obvious to anyone during the first 5 minutes. give it a little time. it is more capable than you might think.

thanks for posting, and thanks everyone for the input.

Noldster, this isn't a place for flaming other reviewers. If you don't agree, tell them you don't agree, but don't bash theme. It's incredibly immature. I don't care what he said. It's not worth trashing him... and using the frickin l33t speak crap doesn't make you look any cooler, it just makes you look more like a juvenile

Good script, but not my favorite. Still, does exactly what it says it does and does it well. 5 out of 5 for this one

dzjepp

dzjepp reviewed v7.0 RC4 on Jun 20, 2003

Excellent! A little warning to the 56k people... if you choose the full install, it could take a long time since it downloads extra theme and sound packs from the net.

Other than that, I would highly recommend it!
