(For 1.3.0.6) - this application just keeps improving. The XML support is now first class and they have added quite a few other new features that are really useful.

I think my only complaint now is that occasionally the interface can be a little clumsy - editing tables (both structure and data) is not always as easy as it should be.

But I would be surprised if these things weren't polished up more as time goes on as the developers are very quick to respond and keen to deliver a quality product. (Which they have..)

Absolutely brilliant. Replaces both Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer and adds some hugely useful features of its own - autocomplete, version history, sourcesafe integration etc.

My only complain is that FOR XML AUTO doesn't work properly (although the app can generate its own XML).

But the developers are extremely friendly and response quickly to bugs and are very open to feature requests so I'm sure they will fix this one.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.

Since Kortirion appears to have covered the program itself rather well, I'll branch out. :-)
Like Kortirion, I have been using mssqlXpress since it first came out in beta. Like all programs in beta, it had some problems, but it definitely had potential. And the team at SpecApps have done an /awesome/ job of attaining that potential. You won't meet a more responsive development company. In looking back at how mssqlXpress has evolved, it is easy to see how much they listen to their customers. With SpecApps, you won't look back.

I wrote the first nasty review of this program (see bottom) and my, how things have changed. I have no idea why I was so pissed, but I actually have ended up using it daily ever since the release following that review. Great program, has removed almost all need for both QA and EM in our shop and everyone is required to use it. Updates are regular and actually add quite a few new features. It is still in active development, one of the newest features being an execution plan simliar to QA's.

It's got table structure editing, a data editor, query builder, code complete (visual studio style), reports, templates, an awesome 'verify' feature which is better than syntax check, and tons of other stuff I can't even remember right now. Just keeps getting better.

Keep QA around in case you need to run the indexing wizard or use a few of it's other features that haven't made it over yet.

It does require that you run the 'server' install to create a database, so you do need to have a sql server you can add it's database too. Keeps trak of the servers you connect to, vss settings, etc. there.

Could be a good substitute for Query Analyzer. It has a lot of extra features, like Source Code sontrol through VSS and code complete assistant, and what is also important - it is constantly developed and improved - even upon individual wish (if your request is really reasonable). We currently have switched to this product and currently Query Analyzer is needed only for Debug and Execution Plan.

I have nothing but good news to report about this program, they have an A class web site with a user forum, only ever had one or two problems accessing there site. The guys have always replied promptly to my request and there listen to your suggestions when it comes to new features or bugs you've found.

Due to problems with our ISP We have moved to a different service and a proper point to point connection and a static IP address. This will make our website more reliable.

Our files are now hosted in the USA on a T1 and T3 connection. This takes pressure off our site and improves download speed for all users.

The program continues to improve. The interface is now far superior to QA although still a few issues with error messages. I would recommend this product to any serious SQL Developer out there.

This is a very handy tool for any database developer. The code complete feature is really nice, just a bit slow. I don't have to open Enterprise Manager anymore to find out what tables and columns I have created, the code complete list all the tabels, views, procs and columns as you type. Being able to edit multiple proc is fantastic, when you have to refer to other procs all the time. The idea of the change history works really well.

The code templates in the editor windows are fantastic. The code complete feature when editing a stored procedure, trigger, view or sql script is a great feature but a very slow.

Great litle program for editing and creating all of my Stored Procedures. Love the ability to be editing more than one SP at the same time, been looking for just that for ages. Version History is a good idea for when I stuff up and need to go back to what I had half an hour ago. Scripting is good for most things, SP's, Views, Triggers, Functions but is lacking in the table area. I've been using it for a couple of days now and will definitley be forking out the dollars for it.

Interesting concept. Code history is nice, good nuffie protection, doesnt hurt to have old versions lying just in case.

I like the search on the object windows, found that by accident, theres probably a bunch of stuff like that in it, needs documentation, but i assume thats on its way.

Polish it off and itll be a product worth looking into.

Not sure what all this fuss is about - all betas needs polishing. This tool has great potential, and i am already becoming reliant on it - especially the version history feature.

I also adore the simple feature of being able to view/edit more than 1 stored proc at a time (unlike Enterprise Managers modal window). Doesn't really attempt to replace EM or QA entirely but i found it to became my tool of choice very quickly ( 2 days ) for most DB tasks i perform as a developer.

Seems to be dying for table editting, but i am assured this will be included shortly - I also forwarded a few suggestions for additional features - they were very pleased to receieve feedback.

I did not encounter the problems listed in other reviews.

NOTE.. I am dismayed to see such destructive criticism from just one reviewer. Is he a competor, or just the resident grump? This is the first beta i have reviewed here, and i only commented coz i LIKE it, and would like to see it even better.

Install is very good in this version. Having a udl come up so I can select which SQL server to work with is great I created two udl's one for home and one for work and I get to select between both. Beats QA in multiple server support, and the verify button is actual seeing if the query will excute not just with it is syntax correct. Having all my code saved in a sigle database means I can back this up and take it home. I know can have all my Stored Procs and Triggers encrypted from the day they were created. The abiltiy to script any or all of the options makes this a great tool compared to other QA replacements out there on the market. Value for money at close to $60 I reckon its great and it seems to be getting better all the time. Installed it on XP Pro. The shortcuts didn't work. It would work from the program menu. Finally got it to open with the "open with" function. Could get it to full screen. Tried to uninstall it and wouldn't uninstall, either from the menu or from the control panel. Had to manually delete all the files and take out the registry keys. Needs some serious work.

As a beta it was a bit difficult to setup but once I read the readme file I worked out it wanted to be installed on the server so it could install it own database which appear to keep all of the information. I was than able to copy the client files to my computer and use the application. Very good cocept well thought out I'll be interested to see if they listen to my feedback. Overall once its setup and running its a damm side easier than having Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager both open and it has the potential to be a real winner. I'm going to keep using this and see where they go.
