Publisher's Description
0 A.D. (pronounced "zero ey-dee") is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. In short, it is a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of Western civilizations, focusing on the years between 500 B.C. and 500 A.D. The project is highly ambitious, involving state-of-the-art 3D graphics, detailed artwork, sound, and a flexible and powerful custom-built game engine.

At the state its at now, the game is basically a tech preview. And if its done in 7 years lets say, then tech they are using will be 12 years out of date. Thats the best reason to get your game done as fast as possible because any game is basically a snapshot of the current state of tech you used to make it. The longer it takes to get it out, the more dated and irrelevant its going to look.

This is a very good thing that the game is being developed very slowly like It is because most games that come so early usually end as being dead projects. So I like the fact that they are taking their time on developing the game the way they are.

I wonder if they game will get out of Alpha before I am an old man? The glacial pace of development for this game is starting to become legendary. Lets say that get it to Beta in 5 years, the engine and graphics will be as out of date a Quake 3 is now.
Slow development of a game is death for the game itself, just ask the makers of Duke Nukem Forever.

I'd give my left nut for this game to get to a beta stage.
