8 of 21 virus scanners red flag this as malware/spyware/downloader. I didn't test it further.

I think the GUI is cute!

The GUI for this program looks almost like a child's toy.
Cowon's JetAudio Media Center can play .FLV files as well as just about any media type you can think of, from .mp3 to DVD and everything in between, including Quicktime and Real Media. It's also free. The free KM Player does likewise.
ADDENDUM: I have recently discovered that neither of the above players will play *all* FLV files. A number of files generate an error message in JetAudio and crash The KM Player. Instead of spending effort to find out if solutions are possible I decided to test eight dedicated FLV players using those same files. All eight of the players played the above files without a glitch.
Of the players tested, FlvPlayer4Free has no competition, either featurewise or in usability. With a choice of about a dozen skins the program can look quite appealing as well. My only wish is that it also had a choice of buttons to go along with the choice of skins. As I went through these programs I got the feeling most were amateurish or half baked. Not so with FlvPlayer4Free; considerable effort has gone into this program. It is very professionally done.
It might not be such a bad idea to have a lightweight program dedicated to FLV videos. Comparing FlvPlayer4Free to the other programs tested, I have reconsidered my rating.
Incidentally, it does have a play list and can support several dozen media types with available codec downloads.

if the only movies you're ever playing on your computer are .FLV, then you may wish to use this. Otherwise (and most likely) you'll choose something more serious.
My top choice: The KMPlayer

Good program thats getting better all the time. It's good to have a player specially for flv so you don't stuff up ya current media player's play list and constantly have to reload it, just because you want to check out a flv while playing a video. And it DOES have a playlist.

The best approach (IMHO) would be to have standard media players capable of playing FLV files.
This player, while it does the job, fails in several key areas ...
1. No playlist
2. Big bulky interface
3. Only plays one media type
