Publisher's Description
Industrial MPEG Encoder is a small tool for video professionals to allow easy and quick conversion of video Files to the MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 formats. In many cases, professional and semi-professional users need to convert files between formats. For example, one may need to compress DV-AVI files to the smaller MPEG-4 format, or also the MPEG-2 format. The MPEG-4 format (as iPod Files, Quicktime Files, PSP files, etc) is perfect for putting up media on the internet or sending by email. The MPEG-2 format is the standard for media written to DVD, and combines high quality with a small file size. MPEG-1 is the most widely compatible format currently in existence.

An absolutely terrible interface. And I'll tell you why.
You have to specify the output directory either in the common file open dialog, or one-by-one after a drag-and-drop operation. The first method is nonsensical and inconvenient, and the second method is even worse, because you have to change files one by one, by right clicking them and selecting the appropriate menu option. You cannot make multiple selections in the file list. Why? "That would be too convenient."
The Help button does... Absolutely nothing. Nice.
Want to remove a file from the list? Hit the Delete key. Oh wait, that won't do anything. Better right click and select "Remove File" instead. One file at a time. Have a bunch of files in the list, and don't want to screw around with this, one at a time? Close and relaunch the application. How convenient.
The window isn't resizable. Umm, hello: Not all files to be converted will be in a root directory, OK? And if you're converting more than 13 files, well shucks, you're just going to have to scroll. Why? "Because we said so. You can't be trusted with a sizable window."
There is no way to save conversion profiles or file lists. Why? "We didn't think of it in the two minutes we spent on interface design."
There is no toolbar, nor any way to set options... Any options. At all. None.
Does it support drag-and-drop? I was in such a hurry to uninstall it, I forgot to check. I'd be very surprised if it does.
The final insult is that the uninstaller leaves quite a slew of registry entries behind. How lovely.
River Past Video Cleaner is much better, at the same price.

Man, these fellows have really made it! I tested the beta-version, and it showed potential, but it was not completely there yet. I forgot about it, and then I come to see this version. Wow! What an improvement. Nice work guys :)

This is THE conversion program, IMHO.

Wow, I really love the new version. It is so easy to use compared to other programs like bbmpeg or tmpgenc. And the quality is really lovely. It took me 1 hour 10 minutes to encode a file with tmpgenc, 1 hour 16 minutes with DirectConvert, and about 2 hours with bbmpeg. So it is a wee bit slower than tmpgenc, but considering the ease of use and the other features it has, I'd definately wait for those extra 5 minutes!

Excellent Program. Very fast mpeg1 encoding, converted all files without any problems.

I would give this a ZERO in reality.
Converted a 625,270,778 avi using this app, took over an hour and a half to do and gave me a 5,986,697,648 mpeg1 file.
Used TMPGenc in less than 40 minutes for a resulting 911,977,108 mpeg1 file.
Why the file from this app has to be some 5 times larger is beyond my comprehension.
PC is an Athlon Barton 3200 with 2 gig PC3200 mem.

Very nice, converted a 2mb mpeg to divx in 20 seconds or so. Could there be an alert added when the conversion is finished?
