it didnt work for me. installed it twice, gave it 3 gmail accounts. failed to connect all 6 times. maybe because i am behind a router or firewall or something. but i can access each of those accounts just fine via firefox, so i guess roamdrive should be able to as well. if it can't, well, it should.
abt banner ads and stuff, not too intrusive, so i dont mind really. guy's got to have some source of income, right? though yes, advertising it as non-adware is definitely shady.

Google has already been blocking accounts that transfer files. I didn't read the GMail EULA, but it could very well be a violation of it (transfering files). GMail has terminated many accounts already that where used by GMail Drive.

Let me just say something here, utilities like these are DOOMED to failure due to the sheer nature of the task they perform. Would I use a utility like this? Hell yea, I love it. Will I actually use it? No. Because it will be dead relatively quickly.
This is because the MOMENT these kinds of software become "stable" and truly usable, they also inherently become ABusable. Meaning that sooner or later individuals will find a way to start utilizing this software as a means to facilitate the transfer of "warez". Software, pr0n, Movies, music, E-books, you name it.
And of course once that happens, the e-mail providers will simply find a way to block the programs from working. Period.

Ok 2 flaws here.
1. It doesn't work with Hotmail accounts, even though it say it does. I imagine ust a small error check error, but still.
2. This is adware. They say you will never see an ad outside of the program. You don't have to ....if it has adverts in it, it is adware! not a huge problem for free stuff, but it is mis advertising.
Great idea. 3 purely for concept as i can not test it properly. At least it seems to be spy and mal ware free

Of all the e-mail storage utilities out there, RoamDrive definitely is the most sophisticated from a UI perspective. It emulates the most common operations for accessing your files. (It would be cool if they mapped an R:Drive or something to that effect.) I also like the approach they are taking by trying to make this a product for the masses. (GmailFS and the like are really for power users.)
And, from a technology perspective, it'll be great to see them support Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. Once that happens, I think RoamDrive will set itself apart from the other utilities with a complete solution.

I've been using this since yesterday, and it works pretty well. I've got several free Hotmail accounts and one pay-for Hotmail accounts, and it works for all of them.
One thing I did notice was that it has a little problem handling very large files (100MB+)... the program seems to hang a bit, although it did successfully upload a 450MB movie.
As far as adware, the only ads I've seen are inside the program. (The banner at the bottom.) They explicitly state on their web site that you will never see ads outside of using the program.
Once they've added support for GMail and Yahoo, I really think this will be a killer app. Good job guys.
As far as it dialing out during the install, as far as I can tell they just try and download an image from some URL at their web site. This is probably so they can track the number of installs they are getting. No biggie, although they should probably explain this during the installation process so people don't freak out.

I've been using RoamDrive for a couple days and it works perfectly fine.
I installed it and uninstalled it and there was no sign of leftover .exe's or whatever; I checked the location that Kylde mentioned. I think he had leftover files because he interrupted the install process? I don't know about the "dial-out", any packet tracing to see where it's going??
As for it being adware, I tried closing the program and leaving my computer on for a day and there were no popups whatsoever. Same goes for when the program is running; the ads only appear embedded in the program for me, just as its described to do. I think it's reasonable to handle ads this way since the program is free after all.
RoamDrive works just as it's described. I can store files on my hotmail account. It's a great idea and I hope that they can expand it to more email services.

a) it tries to dialout during the install (shady)
b) it requires the .net framework (yuk)
c) after uninstall (& I aborted the install when it tried to dial out, why do i HAVE to uninstall?), an exe is left in the local temp folder which tries to dial out! Malware, virus, who knows ?

This is not a review... just a FYI that this is ad-ware and not exactly freeware as mentioned.
If you go to the support section of their site, you will see the following description:
"The free version of RoamDrive is supported by banners and other advertising embedded within the RoamDrive application."
Even though it claims that it is not an ad-ware program, I'd be careful when installing this. I've yet to download and install this so I can't confirm this (hence i'm giving it a "neutral" rating of 3). Besides, I think this is a rather good idea as a program. Although it only supports Hotmail now, when they start supporting GMail and Yahoo, I think it's popularity would improve.
