Soulseek at version 2016.1.24, the program has improved a lot since my last review.

Has improved some since my last review. Less quirkiness and more stable.

...adding to smaragdus' comments, don't know how many times I've had to restart this new and improved piece of garbage just to get a selected file to start finally downloading. You also have to restart sometimes after initial startup just to get it to index your files for sharing, as smaragdus stated below.
Given that this thing is now requiring constant updates, I give it 2 1/2 stars now.
Soulseek broke the one basic rule... If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Soulseek NS was excellent but these new Soulseek QT builds are terrible. Since old Soulseek NS does not support Unicode I decided to upgrade to the QT version (Soulseek 2013.07.01), which turned out to be a total failure. The interface is messy and confusing, it does not even have a context menu when it is minimized to tray for example, so it cannot be shut down via right click on its icon and choose 'Exit'. More, old Soulseek NS could index 300 GB for less than a minute, while this one did not manage to index anything for about an hour, I always got the message that 'It seems that you are not sharing anything'. Any time I tried to perform a search it always froze and the only way to close it was via the task manager. I tried to report the problems I had encountered in Soulseek forum but this was not possible- my old account had been deleted and I could not create a new one because I always got this message: 'The spam filter installed on this site is currently unavailable. Per site policy, we are unable to accept new submissions until that problem is resolved. Please try resubmitting the form in a couple of minutes.'. After a couple of hours I still got the same message. I did not investigate what hidden processes was Soulseek 2013.07.01 running since after a dozen crashes I gave up, uninstalled it and reverted to good old version Soulseek 1.57 NS 13e. Perhaps user 'Zootopia3001' is right and new Soulseek QT might be a BitCoin miner. The old, archaic, 4 years old and no longer supported Soulseek NS works like a charm on Windows 8 while this new version of Soulseek is extremely crash-prone, it fails to index files, it fails to search files, so it is totally useless.

The 'new and improved' Soulseek is such a drag on the system. Don't know what's running with it that makes it that way now, but my guess is that it's a BitCoin miner. Version 1.57 was sooooo much better.

Soulseek 1.56 was the best p2p client of all time, 1.57 it's incredible unstable and invasive, pure crap.

Great program!! I've used it for years now and it finds all the obscure stuff that others like Limewire can never find! No adware or viruses! and perfectly easy to use!
Only downpoint is it doesn't search for alternative sources like Limewire does, so if the user goes offline you have to find the file somewhere else, but hey, I think its well worth it!

Nice to see that it's still under development. Not the greatest interface, but certainly does the job well.
This version feels zippier than the older one I had been using. However, the one major annoyance the carries over is that any click on a list box item produces a ding sound.

NO JUNK! (unlike gnutella)
Alot of high quality music (most aren't that 128 kbps junk)
alot of rare and underground music
NO SPYWARE
and as far as i know the RIAA hasn't really taken a big interest in sewing people using this...
Great for singles mainly
