The user interface is bad, slow, unusable, memory hungry, the download is huge 10-20 times bigger than other virtualization solutions.
It don't work properly in many browsers, is not integrated at all in the system's look and feel, don't use standard system's dialogs making managing the VM incredibly unintuitive and uneasy, it annoys users with many requests and does not prompt some show stopping critical errors the user need to know.
It does not even work properly with 64 bit guests, and the clueless interface doe not allow users know why.
This is the worst virtualization software eve made, the worst user interface ever appeared: please VMware, give euthanasy to this horrible thing and release a decent 3.0 version, even a pre-pre-pre-alpha one with a real GUI and CL interface is welcome!

VMware Server v2 has really gone downhill since v1. The new web interface is very annoying and sluggish. It's really too bad.

VMWare Server 2.0 (no longer beta) is plainly not usable.
The web interface literaly sucks (one for all: no context menu), the link pick up one of the installed browser (even if it is incapable to run it properly) and refuses to be opened with alternative browsers, the program stubbornly refuse to run imported VM, it gives silly error messages with no clue how to respond to get the VM run.
They broke the continuity with a great virtualization software, sorry but this is the last version of VMWare that I allow to waste my days.

This is a great product, but I do think it's kind of funny to release an update just to support blinking text in VGA mode. Does anyone really care that much if text can blink in VGA mode?

Hands down, this is better than any competing product at any price.

The MAZZTer, read it again. its a general license agreement and the expiration part is specifically for evaluation software which this isnt. You will pay for support from them if you want it however and they rather you eventually go to infrastructure later but otherwise it says nothing about the program eventually timing out now that its out of beta.

Works great. My only problem is a tendancy to have guests move into hyperspeed, but this is related to hardware compatibilities. I've been using it since the first betas and it's been rock solid.

To those who compare this to VIrtual PC and VMware Workstation, stop. THis is SERVER software, it runs all the time as a service with Guests running even after the console is closed, its designed to. The other two are workstation products and run as applications.

Runs better than Virtual PC on my particular configuration, but since they're both free you should try for yourself. :)

Note that keys for VMware server do not last forever... the license states in a couple places they will expire.
