beta 3 won't start for limited/restricted user, maybe because it is trying to write to program files directory (logs folder), maybe because my licence is expired (but it will at least start for Administrator).

coding practice for NT systems from year 1996 (if I remember correctly says):

"you won't write to program files any data except when installing application. It is a holy grail don't touch directory as is Windows folder."

it is year 2007 :/

As everyone knows, APPDATA (and others) is "our folder" to write logs, as is ALLUSERSPROFILE when istalling shortcuts (not just for the single user who is installing X-Netstat).
At least give an option to install it for multiple users, NIS for istallation is great choice, so it is relatively easy to do.

giving it 5 because it is very solid application and because it has very low rating on betanews (it doesn't deserves it). But the error's drive me crazy, I hate application I can't use as restricted user since win2000 times :/

Hi cowgaR, I saw your post and decided to fix it. Version 5.5 Beta 2b no longer needs administrator privileges to run. Let me know how it works for you. BetaNews should update the version in a short while .. Also, I just tried TCP View and it does not detect the applications behind connections in Windows Vista. Beta 2 now does this :)

I was wrong at giving it 5 after few day usage, need to correct it as I would give it 3.

I wonder how a bad coder you must be if your application isn't working for a restricted user..

because X Netstat isn't working at all, SQL2005, VS2005 or ANY application I use do not have a problem with it, stuck with TCP View from Microsoft ;)) for a while...

As to beeing commercial, maybe that is the way of beeing on the top for so long ;)

in other words, TCP View from sysinternals is a nice gui for netstat -a, but it is a really simple simplified simplistic minimalistic application ;) compared to this...

Netstat rocks been using it for a really long time its a small price to pay for the years in development spent on the application. i know the developer he is a great guy i've known him for a really long time he has other software also that is good for security and admin tools.

The simple, yet surprisingly flexible and powerful interface, is really fantastic. I've had probably half a dozen different instances where any number of other programs may have been able to do the job, but they're either hundreds (if not a thousand or more) of dollars or they're just far too complex for a simple rule based capture and log. Even if you're happy with some of the big boys out there, this is definately worth your time to at least take a look.

This is without a doubt a five-star program. If you think this is just a gui replacement for netstat, then you haven't even touched the surface of this program or you don't understand it. The author is also incredibly responsive and very interested in user feedback. Excellent realtime filtering, port lookup, kill connection(s), bandwidth display, logging, rules creation and more...

I wish fileforum would institute a policy that says you must review the product at hand, and cant spam other products or post a review without testing the program first (at least require them to download it) because it detracts from a programs reviews when all you see is people who have never touched the software, cant tell you why they dont like it and cant post a review other than to say "its buggy" or "its crap" without providing rationale for their opinions

This program does what it says and it does it well. I find it a great addition to my web arsenal, it ranks up there with roboform in my opinion. I so much prefer having a gui version of the netstat command, and this program gives it to me, easier to navigate than its CLI counterpart, easier to use, and overall faster. Good job XNetStat!

And again, the user above me proves my point. Pointless reviews that tell you nothing about how well the program works. netstat -a doesnt tell you what program is using the connection, now does it ;-)

Shareware, at this rate you can get Port Explorer (which includes sniffing/capture of indivdual processes and many other practical tools :)

Port Explorer is a bargain, and very useful for an it-pro, a netstat clone might not be.

I will stick to the free netstat.exe and it works without any bugs as well as it only does what I need. No added crap.
