oXygen is a complete cross platform XML editor providing the tools for XML authoring, XML conversion, XML Schema, DTD, Relax NG and Schematron development, XPath, XSLT, XQuery debugging, SOAP and WSDL testing. The integration with the XML document repositories is made through the WebDAV, Subversion and S/FTP protocols. It has also support to browse, manage and query native XML and relational databases. The XML editor is also available as an Eclipse IDE plugin, bringing unique XML development features to this widely used Java IDE.

From an educational point of view, this is probably the best editor on the market today for that kind of price. It supports everything you might want to do with XML or SGML files, DTD's or Schema's, xslt or other tools. It is the only appplication that provides a usefull xslt debugger in combination with the rest.
Responsiveness of version 7 is much better than that of previous versions. Compared to Epic (Arbortext Editor) or XML writer it is much slower.
Comparing Oxygen with XML Spy, Emacs, Stylus Studio, XMetal or many others will defintely result in something that grants Oxygen the advantage.

From a quick play, this application didn't really do anything for me. The editor just doesn't feel right - the Java lack of responsiveness is one thing, but the cursor kept being placed in weird places (and non-standard keypresses being needed for autocomplete) is too annoying for me.
However, the outline view is very useful - being able to see all XSL templates in one place is great.
But all in all, it just feels a bit too bulky and awkward to use. Much as I dislike XML Spy, I think it's going to remain my first choice until someone decides to write a really decent XSL editor.
