Previous version failed to load due to beta expiration. This version fixed the issue perfectly. I've been using this tool to identify chip-set components and verify CPU speed scaling in my Intel i7 laptop. Regarding the previous poster, though I dislike programs that bundle the Ask Toolbar as much as anyone, unselecting the checkbox during setup DID stop the toolbar from being installed in my case.

CPU-Z is great. I'll stick with the ZIPed packaged, however. The installer appears to contain Ask.com garbage. I didn't even install using the installer once I saw Ask.com junk try to access the web. I killed installation and went and grabbed the ZIP download instead. It's my belief that the installer was created in order to bundle the Ask.com trash with CPU-Z. As long as they still allow us to download the ZIP archive of the actual files I will be happy. If they switch to just an installer with bundled garbage then I'll be very disappointed.
Paul Skinner reviewed v1.51 on Apr 28, 2009
Why on earth have they given it an installer?
The whole point of it (for me) was that it was portable and could be used to analyse core system components when diagnosing faults.
They've kept the version without though, so that's all good.

Can’t detect the HyperTransport link frequency at 100MHz, 300MHz, 500MHz. Can’t change HT, FID and VID multiplier. Can’t change a memory clock ratio, can’t change DRAM timings, doesn’t reads a current CPU temperature, doesn’t support AMD Family 10h processors at all. Shows only poor common information on the CPU and the motherboard (using the oldest DMI interface).

This version (1.40.5) is still buggy. It shows wrong info in the SPD tab about my memory.
My memory modules are in Slot 1 and 3, and Slot 2 and 4 are empty.
CPU-Z, since version 1.37 (1.36 was the last good one) erroneously shows Slots 1 and 2 with memory and Slots 3 and 4 empty.
I wrote the software writer long time ago about this error, in October 2006 when version 1.37 was released.
I wish he would fix this irritating bug in his software.

I've been using CPU-Z for years. It's one utility that is nearly indispensable. I'm glad it works under Vista 32 & 64 (I tried under both).
One change I would like to see is the ability to read core voltages accurately for the C2D processors. And although load time has improved, I wish it would load faster.
My thanks to Franck Delattre (author) for this excellent program!
photonboy reviewed v1.40 on May 2, 2007
Works great. Most people won't need it but some people need to identify their CPU or RAM.
About RAM SLOTS:
I'm not sure there is an error as reported. RAM is sometimes grouped in pairs. You may see 4 physical slots left to right. Often people will have 2 slots filled such as #1 and #3. Since the first pair is grouped in this manner people might say Slot #1 and Slot #2 even though this is not physically how it's layed out.
I'm not clear am I?
Okay, Motherboard A could choose to group each PAIR physically next to each other and Motherboard B could choose to split up the groups but from the software's point of view everything looks the same. The wiring might be exactly the same but the SLOTS are just organized differently.
Anyway, good program.

v1.36 removes HTML Report from the tools section of the About tab. Also, changes to the Cache tab have been made with things added and removed. I also find it gives different readings of my L2 cache associativity. 1.35 says 8-way and 1.36 says 6-way. Not sure if this is a fix or error? In some ways I prefer 1.35 over this and it does take noticeably longer to load also!

Great tool!
If you are looking for a new computer, I highly recommend buying a motherboard such as Gigabyte is now offering that has five separate CPU frequency/power loads.
I used this program when I bought my computer to verify my Athlon 64 was using the Venice core and to verify that Cool 'n Quiet was working.
Surprisingly other software including Gigabyte's own did not show the proper voltage and frequency of my CPU like CPU-Z did.
Great program and as far as I understand VERY up to date.
Kushan reviewed v1.31 on Nov 11, 2005
I highly reccomend this tool, it's tiny and it tells you just about everything you could ever want to know about your computer's hardware.
I even use it when dealing with people that are having computer problems, sometimes it's just easier to send them this, tell them to click the button that dumps the info to a text file then send that file to me.
10/10

Does what it says without problems, best program of it's kind, even to those power users who aren't too humiliated to use a mouse.
vujnovic reviewed v1.25 on Nov 16, 2004
No idea if this is useful. I don't care :-) I
removed it.
This utility violates one of the most basic GUI
rules: Ctrl+TAB does not cycle through the 6 tabs!
Instead, Ctrl+TAB jumps from [OK] to [Cancel].
Please fix this if you would like this to be used
by power users and not only mouse-clickers.
I know my rating is drastic, but programmes should
get the message that full keyboard support is a
MUST in GUI apps. I use Ctrl+TAB exclusively in
similar dialogs and find it humiliating to reach
for the mouse on such occasions.
BrainJunk reviewed v1.25 on Nov 16, 2004
A blue font is a specific feature of CBId. An other of CPU-Z decided to rip off it :) After he added an ability to adjust a color via ini-file ;) Now we see CPU-Z is not able to compete with CBId well, because the Brain shows much better and more detailed info for the latest AMD64 processors. Maybe therefore a Frenchman releases new versions more often, improving GUI. But Mr. Delattre is simply burnishing his tool, there is no any new additions. Besides, version 1.25 is lunched more long that previews version. I give CPU-Z 1.25 2 marks!
httpd.confused reviewed v1.25 on Nov 15, 2004
