WARNING: THIS FILE CONTAINS A VIRUS! DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

I'm trying to uninstall Dx9c and was quite happy when I found this tool. but then I realized I have to register it to even use its main function - to rollback to old directx from my win xp cd. and as soon as I shut down the program, my anti-virus program finds a virus in it.

Actually...just so everyone knows you CAN NOT install an older version of Direct X over the top of a new version...even though it may go through the processes up until this year DirectX was always reverse compatible...anyone running Windows Vista is running Direct X 10...and without this program you CANNOT install Direct X 9.0c (which is the standard for every video card to date with the exception of the Nvidia Geforce 8800 gtx....SoOoOoOoOo...this isnt a joke or a scam, some people really need this program. 2 thumbs up

I have the newest directx version and when install some games it tells me to install directx 9.0c so i do it and same thing over and over again. Reinstalling over itself didn't help. This program helped out with that, and i didn't have to buy it. But it's pretty rare case if you need this i think.

I can see a reason to uninstall DirectX. I haven't had problems in late versions of DirectX (7+), but earlier it was common for DX to mess up. And to all the people suggesting to just "reinstall it", well, it didn't quite work. It used to just startup, say "hey, you got it already dude", and then quit. On the other hand, if you managed to uninstall it, you could reinstall it and fix your problems. So please don't bang stuff before you know it all (cause you don't).

Otherwise, charging for such a task? *shrug* there are freeware tools doing same..

DirectX never, ever has to be rolled back.
In the case where a component fails or is corrupted in any way, a simple reinstall of DX will fix it. Shame on the creator of this program. It's as bad as charging someone to tell them to just reinstall DX.
All directX versions can be reinstalled easily.

A scam indeed.
If you ever need to reinstall DX it it quite possible to just run the executable from Microsoft without uninstalling it first. That's why every game today want to install 9.0c even if you already got it...

Anyone else notice that the program itself says "(Unregister!)" in the screenshot? :) Yes. Let's hope that the poor gullible person who bought this scam did just that.

UPDATE: For QQ, above: Yes, well, prior to 7... Uh, yeah? So what? You think a program that will uninstall Internet Explorer 3 is nifty too? If you're actually using DX5 or 6 and want to uninstall that to REINSTALL it you have other problems. Such as GETTING it. Seriously. Being able to uninstall 7 year old versions of an API that doesn't allow you to run anything made the past 4-5 years is silly. Even Windows Update will have prompted/forced you to upgrade, unless you've lived in an isolated bunker refusing to upgrade for any reason whatsoever. For everyone else .. this uninstaller is absolutely useless. You only need to reinstall. If you really want to uninstall DX9 and not reinstall, you're in a world of hurt since DX is an integral part of modern Windows.

This doesn't make any sense. Also to the person saying it's sometimes useful to reinstall DirectX, balderdash. That's what Windows File Protection and System File Checker is for. This is just a sham to rip off gullible people. You should never had to "roll back" to a previous version of DirectX. There is no reason at all to ever do so.

I can't see the point uninstalling Directx permantently, Windows relies so much on it. I've never heard of problems with Directx in Windows, but I guess it happens. Windows can't run if you truly remove it as Directdraw is used for the windows GUI.

And to pay $19.95 for something this trivial? I see this only as one of those almost scam like software, easy, simple, doesn't do much, use once bleh!

Look, I know DirectX is SUPPOSED to be able to be repaired by just running the executable installer again, but this very often does not work.

For instance, if one has used a redistributable installer or had it slipstreamed (in certain ways) on OS install, they WILL NOT be able to reinstall DirectX until a new version comes out. When the installer is run, it just comes back instantly with the "the components installed are ready for use" message.

This is indeed causing problems right now as people are having their installations of the game F.E.A.R. fail because the game requires that the bundled DirectX distribution be installed before it will run. Since it can't be run on some of these machines, it can't place the d3dx9_27.dll file in the game directory as it should. Luckily, the fix is just that simple in this case.

However, in the case of corruption, things get a bit more complicated. Most of the time, dxdiag can detect and fix a corrupted system file, but not always.

Now, I have seen DirectX uninstallers in the past (dxun, DirectX Buster), but they very often don't work well or only work for a speciic (old) version of DX. I have no reason to expect that this program would be any different, but if it DOES actually allow removal of DX9, that's not too shabby a feat.

I wish I could actually test this app and give it an honest rating (which, it seems, no one here has done) but my DX is working fine, and I'm not going to risk the damage to my system.

But just because YOU have no need for this program doesn't mean no one else will. Assuming so is just an excersize in arrogance and is probably the worst way possible to rate a piece of software.
