Pros: option to run from the command line (good for power users).
not too expensive. un-licensed there is a nag screen.
program is still actively devloped.

Bottom Line: works perfect for my particular needs and works from command line. not too expensive to buy if you use the program regular and want to remove the nag screen..The developer is responsive and been very helpful in fixng any issues. A previous poster mentioned the interface being old style? its been updated recently this year.

Nagware, no thanks. The Microsoft image resizer powertoy works very well on XP systems, and someone has written a clone of it for Vista and 7.

Seemingly, Nagware at the least.
Perhaps it is Free if you want to put up with the nags? Or is Free in that manner for Personal use, but requires pay for Commercial? Not sure.

What a joke. You are nagged with a surprise web page that opens up when installation completes (advertising VSO's stupid toolbar), you are nagged each and every time you start this crapplication (with a dialog nag), and you're even nagged when you uninstall the bloody thing (with an "Uninstall Survey")! And if you submit the survey (for example, to vent your frustration over having your time wasted on all this nonsense), you are delivered to yet another nag--this time for their "Software Partners"!

As for the crapplication itself, the interface is a joke. I was expecting something similar to what I'm used to with the program I normally use (RIOT, http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot ), yet what I was presented was a ridiculous interface.

Consider this review a digital punch in the face to VSO.

There is no need for this program and I hope it goes open source as there are to many alternatives that can do the job better, faster and quicker
If you can find it Ulead Smartsaver Pro 3.0 (date 2000) will reduce # of colors to make pics web smart and it still works in Win7, if have a version installed just copy the folder to xp/vista/win7 and make a shortcut. Works just fine

i use this software alot but after updating to the latest version it stopped working correctly..got an exception error. reverted back to the older version i had and that stopped working. images created were all white! mmmm i installed image resizer that comes with xp powertoy from MS and now using that which works ok. any othere users having similar problem please post.

Friar Tuck, just because YOU can't figure out what it does doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. It just means you are stupid. It doesn't crop pictures or stretch/squash them, you can't just set a resolution and have it fit exactly that.

I rate it a 4 because it has a nag screen which is a bit annoying.

Another one of those screenshots that takes you to the exact same small picture when clicking on it!

Why doesn't BetaNews catch up on that when it happens so strangely frequently, and how is it possible for professionals in the computer/software industry to do such a beginners mistake when representing a product?

(I have not tried VSO Resizer, so my imposed rating is irrelevant!)

while it is handy and has a nice set of features, it is not completely freeware because it nags you everytime the resize windows is open.

Positive:
- Nice user interface, nice shell interation.
- does what is says, quite simple to use for both single files and multiple files.

Negative:
- Having to explicitly press close after converting an image isn't really necessary. I don't care if if's saved 98,52% space. Don't show me that :)
- while free, it's not an open-source program (which I would prefer)

Resumée: One of the best Image resizers out there - and while perhaps not perfect for everyone - well worth a try!

This is light and simple tool to resize your photos. Also works on Windows Vista unlike the powertoy version of this.

Microsoft has a Image Resizer in the power toys collection .its only 500 KB and the results are good .also there is Fast Image Resizer which is only 200 KB .the results are very good .very useful for sending photos with emails .

Doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Interface is basically what it shows.

No ability to preview/compare original to modified image. Only after a file is changed does it display the change (increase or decrease) in file size. And then you have to manually find the output folder in order to view the newly created file.

File selection could be better. Relies on an explorer type window rather then allowing both explorer & or drag & drop. Otherwise, it does allow right-click file selection.
