Gets a 1 star from me due to the fact of it trying to force you to install a bunch of bloatware spam.

They make the text super tiny so you can hardly read it during the install, and there are a ton of things it wants to install besides the program itself.

Update: after typing this review, I realized thing thing has already installed spam on my computer even though I told it not to during the install. Now I have stupid ads popping on the bottom of my browser windows just viewing the Amazon web page. Stay away from this crap.

Good program, I replaced Everest with it some time ago. It annoyingly installs the 'Ask Toolbar' even if you tick it not to, which though is easily removed. However as the program is free still 5 stars.

PC Wizard used to be great replacement for Everest Free, best one to be precise. But now, after CPU ID acquired PC Wizard from previous owner, they remove Video Card detection if you do not have driver installed?!?

Since I personally used to use PC Wizard for components detection for PC's I'm repairing and I need Video Card detection or else I have to open PC that I'm repairing, I had to find better solution.

HwInfo32 is program that DO detect Video Card even that you do not have drivers installed. And PC Wizard is not useful any more :( Too bad

No Graphics Displays for the benchmarking tabs. With the last few updates I had skewed graphics, now none at all. The only version that works for me seems to be 1.84. I've had problems with all the updates since then.

hmmm .....whoever wrote (can't remember right offhand )..that "pcwiz. is a pos.".........i hate to break it to you , but that's either billy boy (windows).......or the way you setup your comp.
i have it on both mine , mom's ...(anyone's who email's me for help ) i tell to get it so they know the info i need to help them ....etc .etc. etc..all the one's i work on for people ..-i think the point is made-.....i have had a lockup or two on various comps. too..and am NOT so quick to blame pcw , the vast majority of the time , if it is not some downloaded crapware drivers interfereing . it is just, as i said ,
the inherant tweakiness of windows.....FANTASTIC.
program that has saved not only myself, but MANY others i have been able to help through the detailed info on all the billions of friggin numbers one needs to get anywhere with helping someone over the net. ( most people dunno pc3200
from 20 gig )......pcw has been of VAST help .
you can just tellem download .tell me what it says in "x".....on "x" page....and there ya go
on anything from a pretty vicious system like my primary (asus a8n sli- premium / athlon fx-60 running 2.8 (at 40c -hehhehheh) and 2 gigs pc3200 )....to some poor limpalong critter from the jurrassic age.....had VERY few problems.....and a LOT ! ...of valuable info =assistance.......ummmm......for free ?.....how ya gonna gripe about that ?

Update: I just installed a new video card and it still locks up on Global Benchmark. I didnt think it would change anything, just thought I would retest it. Funny that it worked great as version 1.84 (which I now use) and locks up with 1.85. If it was driver or compatability issues why didnt it happen with 1.84?

This version locks up when I try and do a Global Benchmark. I have no problems with version 1.84.

Version 1.85 reads my core temps, with my E8400, @ 27°/26°.

Speed fan reads 42°/41° (so does HWMonitor) and Real Temp reads 32°/31°. Version 1.84 shows 42°/41°.

Man, my belly hurts. I took some Pepto but I'm not sure that'll help. So far I cleared the room twice. It was kinda funny but now I think they know it's me. Yeah, she made a comment about an egg smell. No. The dr says I have to deal with it until they get the results back. Should be a week. No, just the squirts. It's constant. I've been off of work since the incident when I had an accident. It's been 2 weeks now. Yeah, later dude.

*to PostDeals:
Ratings should be based on your experience with the program. Don't give it a lower score due to a corrupted link. That doesn't even have anything to do with the people who made the program let alone how good the program is. (link isn't corrupted now)

bobad reviewed v2008.1.81 on Nov 25, 2007

Excellent! Seems to be very stable, decent benchmarks, accurate temperature reporting, and PORTABLE!!! My main wishes are for the benchmarks to include a CD benchmark in the "Global" benchmark, and for a bar graph instead of the silly pentagonal graph. It's also a little useless to save a baseline benchmark, because the overall score is not recorded.

Great for figuring out what drivers I need to look for also the benchmarking tool is nice though they could implement some of the things better such as mp3 compression benchmark requires you have a music CD or it will not work sometimes the name give n isn't helpful or completely right for finding a driver (mainly for odd-ball parts such as IBM provided ones though IBM has thinkvantage "thankfully").

Its nice there is a portable version of it provided by the makers as a zip file instead of an install. (use it in my thumb drive)

wish there was an option to give a 4.6 instead of 4...

I really like this release. The previous version crashed ever time, and I couldn't use it. This version is rock stable so far. Pretty much what everyone else said, except I want to praise the benchmark feature. I like the global score. It's not as refined as Performance Test (Passmarks)or CrystalMarks, but is very useful nevertheless. A global benchmark score is priceless to overclockers. Sometimes overclocking can improve your CPU, but RAM, HDD, or graphics may actually degrade. Watching the overall score can tip you off that your overclock is causing problems. My only wishes are that the simple bar graph theme would be extended to the global benchmark, and the CD/DVD would be included in the global score. Oh, and I wish PCW was portable. It's nice to to have a hardware auditing and benchmarking program on your USB stick to test systems away from home.

RaGhul

RaGhul reviewed v2007.1.72 on Feb 23, 2007

Not bad. It's infancy shows through a little bit too much, though.

From the same guys who put out CPU-z, I was almost assured it would be a solid app at the very least, which it is. But it's still in the early stages of development.

A free, lighter alternative to Everest would be welcome, but there are a couple of important features missing here:

DRIVER SUPPORT
Although there's a Driver tab, it never displayed anything for me. Whether this is a glitch, or obvious lack of programming, I'm not sure. But it's one of the main reasons I use Everest. I've come to rely on Everest's built-in links to the manufacturer's driver downloads, and this would need to be included for me to switch.

INFORMATION PAGES
Somewhat lacking.

SPEED
It's kinda "draggy". Everest drags a litte, too, while switching between pages, but not quite so much.

Not a bad early effort. If they include these items, (and keep it free), then I have a new app for my arsenal.

This application is awesome except few minor but somewhat annoying glitches: when changing category splitter is sometimes positioned wrongly, when my windows xp theme fonts are set to large dialogs look distorted, PCWizard starts with my current locale language instead of English (I have an English version of Windows XP).

Anyway it's completely free and thus deserves respect.

The only feature it lacks is a PCI devices database to show the devices which your Windows didn't detect properly (e.g. an old PC with no installation disc).

Between this program, Sandra, and CPU-Z, I was able to discover that the person who built the two computers in my house had seriously underclocked -everything-, and was able to clock things properly, and get from a 30% to 150% speed increase on them... I love it.

Only one minor snafu:
The "2006" release doesn't seem to delete anything related to the "2005" release.

Software versioning using a year system is just plain silly.

bobad

bobad reviewed v2006.1.66 on Dec 5, 2005

This ia a bang-up, must-have program for tweakers and just exploring your computer. It's great for doing a quick check on your temperatures, voltages, etc on CPU, HDD's, and graphics card. The semi-transperent benchmark graph overlays for comparison to other computers are awesome.

The only things I wish for are a "Run all Benchmarks" option, and a composite benchmark score (similar to Performance Test "Passmarks") I also wish for a 3D graphics benchmark and comparisons for 2D and 3D.

Get this great free program and you will appreciate all it does!
