Publisher's Description

RAMDisk is the right product for you if you have a disk I/O bound application that is small enough to fit in main memory. RAMDisk is also great for storing frequently accessed data such as temp files, page files and database index files. RAMDisk is a kernel-level driver that presents a standard disk drive to the OS, however, it stores and retrieves data from the system RAM on your motherboard instead of an actual, physical disk. Along with the Kernel Driver is a GUI that talks to the driver and allows the user to set various options as well as start and stop the Driver (create or delete a RAMDisk).

RAMDisk is Freeware (up to 4 GB disk size). Disks larger than 4GB require registration and a license.

I have to disagree with FatBas+'s comment.
Here ever since I started RAMDisk 4.4.0 RC33 I've encountered not one problem. Runs fine. This is the category of software which is noted less in nuances than in operational or not : if it runs flawlessly, 5/5, otherwise 1/5.
Runs flawlessly here. Conclusion? .... yeps!

I've tried this software and it's not good !!!

Instead I use SoftPerfect RAM Disk which is AMAZING and completely FREE...

For 32 bit OS I'd recommend Romex's VSuite over this one which works fine on my 64 bit OS.

Working perfect for me without any error on win7 no restart no freeze no crash 100% safe install and uninstall, I always create any size ramdisk daily or hourly when I want working faster with big file eg 500MB to 1,5GB as usually. Iv use the free version. Just type the disk size what you want and push start button and if you not need use anymore just simple uninstall from memory. Incredible speed harddisk in memory. This is the best tool that I ever seen for computers.

Free for less than 4GB raldisk, very usefull. I don't know if this one (I know other ramdisks) can use the memory hole between 3/4GB on 32Bits Windows version.

Very usefull when you have an app that need hudge/fast file access on a special file that you may be able to move to ramdisk.

Also usefull for app developpers to check how fast their program can be and if disk access is a big bottleneck or not.

I once tried it a few days ago, and it always makes your system hang at the System Shutdown sequence.

Using a ramdisk under windows xp or 2000 is not a dumb idea when used in the manner described by ark2000.

The link cited by Mastertech is misleading because the article argues against putting a Windows PAGING file on a ramdisk, which is indeed a stupid idea.

But using a ramdisk to store temporary program and webbrowing files makes a lot of sense and can speed up browsing if you have enough RAM. I devote about 12% of my 2GB of ram to a ramdisk for temp and internet files. I can't accurately rate this product because I don't use it. I use the one at: http://www.ramdisk.tk. Has worked great for me unless you format the ramdisk in NTFS, then, for some reason it locks up. But FAT or FAT32 cause no problems for me.

ok,

I'm using a ramdrive to do the following: use it for temp, tmp directory, use it for temporary directories in any app that allows to set it, agent, winrar and so on. Use it for ie temporary internet files, however the cookies directory is still on hd so I don't have to remember the passwords. Installed firefox on it, firefox is instant now and page reloads are all instant.

I do have automate running a backup of firefox directory, but it's in sync mode so unless there are new or changed files there is no activity.

I have a dual processor with 2gb ram to begin with, but I can tell you, with all that as described, system is much faster and quieter since there is no hd activity when browsing for example, either in ie of firefox.

I am not using this app, I'm using this one: http://www.ramdisk.tk/ no crashes, no BSOD's nothing.

I like the idea im not limited to thinking A RAMDISK under Windows NT/2000/XP is a dumb idea.

Generally, the Windows(r) 2000 cache manager does a much better job of optimizing memory usage than Ramdisk does However Id go as far to say using one is a great idea
Who wants crappy temp files or cookies when they can be directed to a ram drive and removed with a simple restart.

Extremly unstable. After installation began experiencing crashes regulary w/ winxp sp1a. Also would get an error on every boot up sayin the system has recovered from a major unstability (paraphrasing of course). Removed the program (which had to be done is safe mode since the install routine could not (apparently) shut down the damn service... and all is good now... Needs a LONG time to mature as a program...
