Publisher's Description

RIOT - Radical Image Optimization Tool is a free program designed to efficiently optimize images for the Web. Saving images for web/email/other media with the best compression ratio and quality is a difficult task if you don't have the right tools. Choosing the right format then choosing the right parameters are the key factors of smaller files. Previewing the resulting image and the projected filesize will help the user choose the best settings. This kind of image optimization software is often called "Save for web".

Downloaded but was caught by Norton as a Reputation issue.
Submitted to Virus Total and Mcafee does not like file though Norton did.
Submitted file to Norton directly and is now White Listed.
Authors websites listed are both blocked by Norton as dangerous.

Have contacted the author about this and would hope he follows through with submitting his own programs for White Listing and to cleanup his website for what ever issues are there and or has been reported.

Will follow up with a review on the program but doing the authors job was not planned in timeline.

For all people interested that run Norton you can submit files for checking here
https://submit.symantec.com/websubmit/retail.cgi if suspected malware etc or
if suspect is clean can submit here https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

Best to notify author as is his job.........

Very good tool for interactive optimizations, and quite fast too.
For batch optimizations, I rather prefer FileOptimizer (http://guti.is-great.org....php?page=FileOptimizer) which has a broader file type support.

I personally think RIOT is a fantastic tool and helps me a lot.

@taxis: pngout can be used within RIOT. It is integrated as an external optimizer. The color quantization in RIOT will help further decrease your filesizes along with pngout.

@Plumber: actually your review is a bit ridiculous. the plugin works as designed, because the image used internally in XnView is sent, not the image form the file. You may have altered the image by using a filter or cropping, so the plugin integration serves this purpose., You can't do that with an external tool.

About bath being a garbage I disagree. How do you want the height to be populated for a bunch of images of different sizes ? For what image should RIOT populate the height ? You are asking an impossible think. The aspect ratio is kept if you check that option, so I don't understand your concerns. The image is simply fitted into the given rectangle while keeping aspect ratio,

So make your changes then open your images straight from RIOT. Otherwise the last settings will be used. I heard the author prepares an automatic mode, where you don't need to change settings, they are chosen automatically.

Optimization quality is far inferior compared to what can be done by hand with the usual tools (e.g. PNGOut for uncompressed graphics)

This software is ridiculous. It offers an XnView "plugin", but the plugin works with only one image at a time. If you tag or select multiple images in XnView, RIOT only processes one of them, and ignores the others. If you use XnView's built-in "Open With" function, it works, but then, why bother with the plugin?

And the batch function in RIOT is garbage. If you invoke it, and want to resize images, the height setting is not automatically populated as it is when you use RIOT in single-image mode (or with the XnView plugin). So if you have an odd aspect ratio, you have to screw around figuring out which numbers to enter.

The batch function also sucks because once the "Batch optimizer" window appears (and it appears instantly if you call it from the XnView "Open With" function), you CANNOT change the target settings without closing the window, changing the settings, and then opening the window again. It's a ridiculous, idiotic, contemptible way to design a program.

Nothing radical to it, most graphics programs offer the same features!

Useful idea, clean GUI, but not very effective yet: Strangely enough the use of PNGOut does not take filters into account and produces far from optimal results.
