Bad author? Meh, I disagree. The one time I had trouble with RegexBuddy, I asked the author for help. He was not only responsive, he offered to help with the regexex I was working on.

This app is good at what it does. But the developer does an *extremely* poor job of being responsive to his users. If his software doesn't do something well, or could do something better - you'd be lucky to get a reply to your email, let alone actually have the developer incorporate the improvements. I absolutely cannot stand developers who ignore the needs and requests of their users. If he doesn't care about his users, why should we care about him?

Calling The Regex Coach better at all--much less "way better"--is a ridiculous statement. Why would a person prefer TRC? Let me think... Uhh...
OH WAIT, I KNOW! It's free.
RegexBuddy is not.
Therefore, automatic "better", even if it makes no sense.

It's a 5. But The Regex Coach IS way better, imho.

The GUI could be improved, but it's not as bad as ssb makes it out to be. It's the best of the genre, or at least the best I came across. I have some sort of mental block when it comes to regexes, so I need all the help I can get.

I still wonder what is the best possible rating for this program.
It's the best regular expressions evaluator ever seen but also one of the worst designed applications. RegexBuddy GUI looks like being designed by a ten years old kid. That's not a surprise; Jan Goyvaerts, RegexBuddy author, is known for some of the worst designed applications (HelpScribble, PowerGrep etc).
Despite its awfull GUI, RegexBuddy is an excellent and highly recommended tool.
