Just downloaded 3.9.6 and tested it with Nano & Touch - worked flawlessly!
Very small and simplistic, allows you to copy to/from your Ipod as well as backing up. If all you want to do is copy media to & from your ipod without Itunes bloat this will do the job - and works with Ipod Touch, something similar apps (Yamipod, Floola) can't do.
The main point of this program is to free your Ipod - remember, your Ipod is married to the PC you installed Itunes on. If you go to a friend's house and load Itunes, it will erase all your media. Sharepod works without itunes allows you to use your Ipod on any PC. Before I discovered Sharepod I downloaded a trial of 3herosoft Ipod transfer and it wiped my ipod touch! Itumes was able to restore from a backup, about 2 hours ugh!! so you need to be careful which program you use with Ipod Touch.

SharePod 3.9.5 is available (as of 6 Apr 2010) and it works great with the iPod Touch.
This is a great program. Easy to use and handles all my needs to backup/sync my music with out the need of iTunes. There are some nice features on ITunes but I do not like how big it has become and there is no way to install it with out items I do not want/need such as QuickTime.
Have used YamiPod with a Nano for years but it lacks the ability to work on the newer versions of iPods such as Touch or iPhone.

Does exactly as advertised. Unfortunately I still had to install iTunes to format the iPod...150+ MB install of mostly garbage (look for iTunes Lite). At least once the iPod was formatted I could delete iTunes. Now SharePod (and also Floola) work flawlessly. :)

This is a very nice program! Some people obviously didn't read the program description or tried it before writing reviews here.
The point of the program is actually that you don't need ITunes. ITunes is bloatware but the great thing about SharePod is that you can add songs from different PC's without people having ITunes installed, e.g. if you know someone who has music on their mp3 player, their harddrive, you simply plug-in your iPod and start the program on the iPod and transfer the music.
For people like me with iPod Shuffle I can't put my iPod into a different PC with ITunes and still keep the tracks on my iPod (posted about this on Apple's forum - it's not an error, ITunes is just made this way). This program does this!
Only bad thing is that the volume on the tracks on my iPod have dropped way low. I hope this will be fixed soon.

Maybe b/c iTunes sucks, if you don't feel that way, then keep using it.

Itunes 7 does the exact same thing and you don't need a separate program!

Still have some minor glitches.
When testing on 2 computers it gave me 12 new Playlists, all of them was the same!
Lucky for me that the restore function worked well so that I could restore my Playlist.
The "save settings" menu entry did not save anything at all.
Unable to scroll horizontal in the playlists, only vertical.
Ejecting to Ipod did not work properly although the author said that there is some minor problem that we can ignore. However, I use the systray icon "safely remove hardware" just to be on the safe side.
Playing Video was working fine via Quicktime, also playing with the internal player or Windows Media Player was working fine. Podcasts working fine but no Video for me.
Audiobooks did not work for me at the moment. It think that there is a fix for that strange format that Apple uses.
No support for Album art. :-(
The program is very fast.
Very nice candidate for YamiPod program. Especially when you can carry it with you inside your Ipod! :-D
I really hate Apples Bloated Itune!

Works great, as intented.
Read http://sharepod.sturm.net.nz, you have to install it IN YOUR IPOD, not in your HDD.
Also make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed in your pc
Extra point for being small and ad free

Unfortunatley it says "iTunes has locked the iPod database. Please wait for iTunes to finish synchronizing." even though iTunes hasn't been opened once since the computer's been on.
Perhaps it's a modded firmware thing?
To poster above: Done, done and done (I used the previous version too you see). I think it might be a modded firmware thing though.
*Edit* I just needed to restart. It's a fantastic improvement over version 2.
@Adrian79: Because iTunes is huge, you can't just copy your music on to someone else's PC if they don't have iTunes. This stays *on* your iPod so that you can easily share it with anyone.
