nice program but the simplicity of TeamViewer makes it the winner in my book.. Try to talk to a 80 year old person on the other end to run tightvnc is a joke.

I agree with some of the other reviewers. I have been using this for a long while, to help with family & friends computers. Some family lives over an hour away, and this has saved me many trips out to their homes. Remote desktop is nice, but it doesn't have the file copying features, that allow me to copy files between the 2 computers. The Beta version still has a few quirks (bugs), but that will hopefully be corrected once the final version comes out.

Reverb is right.
I have been using this very good tiny piece of software for years. I have a server at home and it has saved running back and forth to see what was wrong and to maintain it every day seldom requiring me to go look. I tried a couple of others even paid ones that didn't have the speed and the same high quality of compressed graphics and missed some of the other features.
I too have to linkup to friends computers to troubleshoot, update software in the middle if the night while they slept. I have also explained how something works without the need to drive across town and sit in the drivers seat. Instead we can talk on the phone as they watch the cursor move across the screen.
The new improvements are are great. It seems that this software maintained annually which is better that some paid programs that only improve the gui when charging for a full upgrade. (Thanks Guys!!!)
My only desire is to see an ftp type transfer system that we can request to download folders and subfolders and to move files and at a much faster rate. (Pretty Please!!!)...

Reverb you must have done extensive research to reach that conclusion.
Or your excitement over this piece of software is greater than your sense of reality.

"Faster than Windows Remote Desktop" - well, that's simply a lie. The fastest remote connection tool is, unfortunately, Microsoft's one, followed by RemoteAnything, pcAnywhere and the rests of the VNC tools (Tight, Ultra, etc).
somewhere in this list there is also Radmin.
-- up to Vista, anyway, I'm not managing any Vista server so I cannot tell.
I suggest to check your facts before posting such a claim, or upgrade to the latest version of MSTCS.
For being freeware, easy to install, easy to access and, moreover, for doing a great job, I'll rate it 5.
(I still prefer the UltraVNC among all the VNC flavors tough).

Probably one of the best freeware VNC apps out there. Faster than Windows Remote Desktop and easy to setup. Can run as a portable app off a USB flash drive or installed as a service. I use this constantly to troubleshoot PC's for friends/relatives computers once I have forwarded the correct ports on their routers. All you need to do is forward the default TCP ports 5800 & 5900 (or your custom port settings) and you're all set. You can also use the Java server/viewer to control via your web browser. I prefer the non-java method since it is much faster and uses less resources.

Nice tool for certain tasks, but if you can use Windows Remote Desktop instead then do so.

Nice remote control software. I'm glad to see some activity still with the project. I hope they get some of the issues regarding Vista worked out soon.

Holy cow, I thought this project was dead! I'm glad to see them updating it again.

Very good and lightweight software. I use it to solve little problems on remote computers when a customer call me. Much faster than going at his/her home...

5 Stars all da way... excellent vnc and the devcelopers are awsome.
Again, DFMirage driver is a must for anyone using TightVNC.
sn0wflake reviewed v1.3dev7 on Aug 30, 2005
I'll give this app a 4 star rating. The best VNC fork though is UltraVNC which I'd give a 5 star rating.

I use VNC pretty much exclusively at work, its great.
TightVNC is a great version however I admit that for Windows based systems with active directory Ultra VNC is probably the best (it includes the Tight encoding developed by TightVNC).
To its credit I run TightVNC on all of my linux boxes.
