havent used this in years because steam does practically everything this does and much much more. i like the UI and some of the advanced features but there isnt much of a need for this if your friends/clan are on steam and use vent.

Though I would have given XFire (nicknamed XFkr) a 2 several months ago, it has seemed to become much more stable within the last few updates. I applaud the dev team for their continued support and patch releases. With each release making XFkr more stable and more usable!

An excellent download choice!

X-fire is amazing.
Allows me to talk to my friends while I'm playing games and it doesn't slow anything down.
I highly recommend this for any PC gamers!

Seems stable so far. Simple, functional, while not being bloated. Most of the features in Xfire would be used by the average gamer at some point or another. I've been using Xfire for a few years now, but ONLY with the Xfire Light skin.

Xfire has caused me some problems in the past in certain games, but overall they fix the problems quickly.

Xfire is the greatest IM available. I don't see the point posting new versions though, Xfire updates by itself to the latest version with no interaction by the user at all. I stopped using any other IM's after seeing what this can do. Only thing missing is Video Chat.
It is so cool that I can check what server my friends are gaming on and see there score. Right click on his name to join and I'm on my way gaming with them. I can also tell how much of my life I've wasted playing video games, 800 hours just playing Battlefield series online games. Supports Ventrilo and Teamspeak too.
If this program cost $$ I'd pay for it.

I have tested it with 2 of my other friends last night. We tried so many times adding others and it either had like a 10 minutes delay adding a friend (who has an account and in the network already), or it didn't want to add it at all. Then it keeps disconnecting when we were in the game. Of course we didn't know we got disconnected until we noticed the other is not answering. Not stable..

EDIT: Just found out that we have to start the invite and voice chat before starting the game. This made it quite inconvenient actually. It works fine after that, although it does slow down the game we're playing (CPU intensive?)

Jammerdelray,

I apologize for calling the 1.71 version of the program amateurish. Next time I will be sure to use my teleporter that takes me into the future to evaluate applications that do not exist before commenting on one again.

As for the new version of Xfire, the skin is much nicer and warrants a slightly higher rating. The rest remains mostly the same. Feature creep only ends up making the program more bloated. I never wanted game patching, advertisements, voip, screenshots, etc etc. I wanted the old Xfire that used little resources and let me chat among friends from outside or within a game.

Works like a charm even on vista.

Took a few sec to undestand why i couldnt launch any games after the update but i had made the games to run with admin rights so after removing that.

They startade as they should.

I don't like the shadow skin because of the green pickle, sort of clashes with the rest of the skin. Ok, it's supposed to be a phone receiver but it looks like a pickle. Other than that it's a pretty nice program.

Jammerdelray

Jammerdelray reviewed v1.80 on Aug 28, 2007

First off you should try version 1.80 before saying it still "looks" amateurish. 1.80 came with a new skin called shadow which is the default now. New look, new xfire.com, new screenshot manager, share files, do voip calls, blog and more.

Cons: Could be more compatable with vista.
