Hm...didn't take too long for me. The whole installation lasted only about 45 seconds, and that included the FreeWire download AND the JRE 1.4 download. But still, no download would be best (although I can understand for the JRE).

MrMeph: Your proble is actually an option in the preferences. There are a lot of preferences in different tabs and screens, so they are hard to sort through. But you CAN enable an option that makes trillian keep you in away or invisible mode...
