This editor does everything I need a text editor to do and ranks at the top of my favorites list. And before the trolls start, I have used notepad++ (32 and 64-bit), PSPad, EditPad (lite and pro), UltraEdit and CodeWrite. I particularly like the way it handled rectangular blocks of text and macros - it is far more streamlined and logical than most of the others.
Of them all this sits at the top of my favorites regardless of price.

Very fast, compact and supporting huge files.
A pitty we do not have a lite free version.

Very fast.
For large Text and HTML files I prefer it over PSPad editor.

Hilarious. Notepad++. Compared to EmEditor Professional.
That person must not know that Notepad++ is strictly 32-bit. They must also not have tried it with 100-MB+ files, or else they'd know that EmEditor is drastically faster.
I tested search/replace operations under Windows 8.1 on a 146-MB file with EmEditor (64-bit) and Notepad++. The repeatable results: What EmEditor was able to do in 4 seconds or less, Notepad++ took over 6 MINUTES to do!
But hey, it's free, so let's rate it highly, right?
Calling Notepad++ an "alternative" to EmEditor Professional is like calling a bucket an alternative to a firehose.
And BTW, if paying for an application is the biggest mistake you've ever made, you're doing pretty well. Although I have to think that's hyperbole.

Maybe expensive for someone but certainly not garbage, actually imho best editor. Notepad++ or Akelpad are great free alternatives.

Notepad++, while completely free, has a ton of better features than this expensive garbage. Buying this crap (for just 1 year) was the biggest mistake i made in life.

Pros: Native 64-bit
Handles huge files
Excellent column/irregular block editing support
Cons: No freeware version.
Bottom Line: This editor does everything I need a text editor to do and ranks at the top of my favorites list. Still a great text editor.

As a paying customer, I expected much more from a "major upgrade" for a shareware text editor. The free Notepad++ does so many things way more properly and easy.
Thumb down, I will not pay again for such a poor overall "upgrade".
