won't install on 64 bit Win8.1 - can't find a 64 bit desktop version on the website and whilst the touch version might be fine on tablet if you're unlucky enough to have a windows tablet, but on a desktop its awful

I recently started using Evernote and its "free" storage space is severely limited. I have over 4000 pics on my iphone and have used only half the iphone capacity. I uploaded 166 pics from the iphone to Evernote, used 99% of Evernote upload capacity and recieved a warning notice that Evernote utilization would be restricted until the next cycle. From a practical standpoint Evernotes data restriction allows only 2% utilization of my iphones capacity per month. With this strict data limitation, it is more functional to use my iphone, ipad, and laptops and "Forget Evernote".

Brilliant. This new version is so much snappier and the fonts are finally readable (due to them ditching .net and WPF apparently).
Seeing as it's now back to C++ i'd like to see them make this portable again just like the old 2.x and 3.1.x versions.

Yes that looks like close to being fully usable. Can be used to print nice pdf files also. But one small problem I still face is, an open note does not scroll when I use the scroll strip on the right side of my track pad in my HP G60 laptop.

I still maintain that this app needs some more fine tuning with the ability to define how text must scroll around pictures, instead of just above and below them. That should make it the greatest app ever for note taking.

I frequently take notes and export them to mht format to send to my friends. In its present form, the app wastes a lot of space around the sides of pictures, which makes a note unnecessarily long.

OK you guys got the word wrap thing right this time. Thanks!! Now how about sorting out that issue about how words wrap around pictures?? I tried pasting a picture into a note, and got another note with the picture in it. Try putting some pictures in a note to see what I mean. After all isn't a picture worth a zillion words???

An option like we have in MS Word, of being able to select how this should happen (and being able to set that as default) would have made a big difference to the way a note looked. I have yet to see any note taking app doing this right. So you are not alone. If you guys can do me that favour, I will blow you a million kisses right away. And yes five stars.

I have been trying out several of these note taking apps lately. What surprised me most about this one is that despite its mammoth download size, this app does not provide a very small but all important feature that we all take for granted, and can find it even in the most lowly app in Windows - Notepad. That feature is called wordwrap.

What kind of mutt in this world will want his note to go off screen and then scroll right to find the rest of it?? I find it difficult to believe that the developers could come out with such a huge app, and not realise this till now.

The blur, that it is designed for all users of desktops, laptops, and tablets, is incorrect. It should be, "designed only for users of desktops, laptops, and tablets which run Microsoft software." I've got several that don't have that company's OS.

It still stores stuff locally. Look for the .exb file in your "documents and settings" folder, so no you should not "have" to get a premium account.
It's just a SQL Lite database. You can even compress the database with the normal SQL Lite commands, such as vacuum.....
As for this version. I'm using it now, but i think i still prefer the old version. And being .NET it means that it's not completely portable. Not a massive issue but it would have been nice.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? There are entire enterprise systems using .NET. I'm not about to go on a language crusade or anything, but having coded in C++, Cobol, Java and .NET i can honestly say .NET wins hands down for productivity. What language would you have things coded in?

An earlier version of this used to be ok, with that one your data was stored locally like most other PIMs. Now, you sign up for an account with their server, and your data is all stored there. To get anything like a workable upload capacity you need the 'premium' account, which costs money. So technically, yes the program is free but if you want to do anything useful with it you pay - and not just a one-off fee, but monthly.

.NET-based crap. Developers never cease to amaze me, I mean it is their day job and yet they still cut corners.

This program is pure bloat. It's slow, big, java-looking piece of crap.

Don't get me wrong, .NET is an ok language for beginners and/or small projects, but I expect a company chat charges for a product to develop it in native language, and not in half pre-made language. All the above is just my opinion obviosly, nothing more.

.Net is not bad at all. But poor coding is. I´ve tried this new beta many times and I always ended up going back to older version. I´m amazed how the new design is not at all intuitive and ineffective compared to the clean 3.1. I´m a programmer myself with .Net and I´m almost sickened by this even if it´s Beta. It´s not even Alpha this version if I would dare to put it to the public. I really don´t like to criticize since I know the effort it takes to program something like this. Really I hope the best of lucks for Evernote. But I won´t use your software in the future if it resembles the Beta version.

Does suck massively compared to 3.1 which i use with no problems at all.
That said it's got nothing to do with the fact that it's using .NET
Blaming the tools is just non-sense, there are other .NET applications out there that don't have any performance problems whatsoever and make Evernote look like mickey mouse stuff. Just look at NASA World Wind for example. It doesn't matter whether you use Java, Python, C++, Lisp or any other language you wish to name. If you code it badly it will more than likely perform badly, But then i don't need to tell you guys that. No doubt Diam0nd would prefer to use assembly rather than C. After all C is for lazy developers who can't be bothered to shuffle memory around registers manually.../s

dhry, if you want a copy of EverNote 2 we can sort something out. I have and still use the portable EverNote 2.

I too agree with Diam0nd. The previous version of Evernote ran faster and was far better. The program has become bloatware like so much other stuff out there these days - and mandating that you create an account on their site to use the program is a reason to avoid IMO.

Damn hilarious - I just did a Google search for Evernote v2 and all I got back were a stack of torrent links to pirate versions. Note even Filehippo has the previous version.

Excellent note taking application. Together with their free online service, they are both extremely well designed and useful.

They also have portable installtion and Windows Mobile support.

I guess this is where Microsoft One Note should start for their next revision.

Complete crap.

Written on a .NET language (great language for any lazy programmer) and thus:
1) fonts look blurry and ugly
2) very slow on my dual-core windows 7 pro x64 system
3) unresponsive and duplicating actions

And this is the end of the list basically, because all the points above make this program unusable.

They say it's great on macs, but on windows it SUCKS. Guys, wake the f up: .net languages SUCK. They are good (easy to write programs) ONLY for programmers writing in them, NOT for the end-users. Evernote Corp, be a man: go native! (C++ > *)

P.S. Again, I am NOT talking about the concept of Evernote, I'm talking ONLY about it's realisation for windows platform.
