I don't know about this version but the one I installed perhaps a year ago would phone home on every start, no option to disable that, and when blocking that call with firewall the application wouldn't start.
I'm not willing to give this relatively big package another try. When I encounter such phone issues I just drop the software, be it freeware. Maybe I'm wrong to do so, but no time to spare for testing.
"3" score is plain neutral. I was bound for a "2". Yet I know this app has a good reputation from what I've read here & there...

I had a play with this over the Weekend. Not to do any Encoding, but to see exactly what this App is offering... I can see the VISUAL pull to this App by the screener above. It looks Exciting & gives the Impression you will be a Pro in no time... Well to all the Guys who have "never" worked with Audio/Video before. This App is "over the Top" for you..!! .. Way too many configs for a learner.

You need to know about Aspect Ratios, Bitrates, kbsec, Framerates, A/v sync, & lots more factors... There are However, More (basic) Apps provided by this Crew. @http://www.mediacoderhq.com/editions.html

Sooo unnecessarily complicated. Has nag screens for paid product of one trys to convert oce a certain number of vids, which stops the process until user intervention. Many easier and just-as good freebies.

Not suited for a layman like me. Tried many of the earlier betas. Just too buggy, and has too many options. For those who need a simple and fast transcoder, use Format Factory. Works great on Win7x64. Has none of these hassles. Just choose your output video format and it just does the job.

Totally crap. Not work for me. Crashing, full of errors messages. I'm prefer VirtualDub or MeGUI.

The sole reason I use MediaCoder is because it's the only free CUDA-enabled encoder I could find. And it works very well. However, the user interface is a complete disaster. The most baffling thing is the inclusion of certain XUL-based user interface elements which are slow and painful to use, and worst of all, completely unnecessary. I also don't need a Firefox page to pop up every time you want to tell me something, thank you. There also doesn't seem to be any way to disable automatic updates permanently. All of this brings down the rating to 2 stars.
