Works but if you want to get it of your computers, years after you still find pieces of this software in folders and registry.
Use a tool like clean uninstaller from WinTools to get rid of all pieces after uninstalling this software.

Concerning the user interface, this application had originally a nice, well thought and well-designed GUI, but the author has a strong tendency for adding redundant functions, links and even words to the application’s screen which begins to become overloaded. You can see the UL/DL overall speed twice. You have a horizontal toolbar and a vertical sidebar. You have a horizontal information view and a vertical information view. The screen is full of redundant functionalities, redundant titles and redundant words (Outgoing, Outgoing…, Local, Local…, Remote, Remote…, Address, Address…, Connection, Connection…)
Concerning the functionality and the current beta test, I couldn’t install beta 7 because I had a BlueSOD during the installation. Also, during the tests of beta 6, I had few BlackSOD during Windows startup, immediately after entering the system password when the screen switches to the desktop display. I am currently still testing the limit function using beta 6.
It would be useful if the author can add the following columns for each process:
Speed DL/UL, Limit, Total sent/received current transaction, Cumulative sent/received process.
On the other hand, inviting the user aggressively to buy the program while it is in beta phase and full of problems, is not a useful marketing practice.
To encourage the author I give the application 4 stars.

I used NetLimiter 2 pro witch sucks... if it was possable I wold give it a 0 out of 5 but I'm going to give it a 1 sence it's the lowest option.

I installed netlimiter 2 pro and it automatticly turned off all MY axcess to internet controlls.
I uninstalled it thinking it would fix the problem but aparently it's stupid settings are ALWASE
in effect witch is stupid because I didn't set them to not let me be online.
I than FORMATTED my computer thinking it was just in the registory and that it would "refresh"
it but when I finshedinstalling xp pro witch took 2 hours of my life the settings wer still in effect
so I had to wait 2 days tell I could go to my friendsand download netlimiter 2 pro agaion and
put it on a jump drive. when I got back home I installed NL2 and went through the help file from
top to bottom looking for a way to make NL2's settingsinactave as if I never installed the stupid
program but I couldn't find it instead I had to Limit EVERYprogram on my computer wat isn't
what I wanted the program to do in the first place. I just wanted a way to see what Bandwith my
programs were useing and turn off the highest ones when I wasn't useing them...

while I managed to get moast of my programs working I'm still clueless on how to get world of warcraft
an online multiplayer game to work because it doesn't have a link in the dump program to let it work...
I'm going to find a way to let WOW work and than uninstall the stupid trial version before the time runs
out and not let me fix any other errors and if I wana buy other online games like Halo 2 and Unreal
Tordmant and install them they better ****ING work after NetLimiter 2 pro has been uninstalled.

PS: sorry for spelling errors. I just hate this program so much I'm not going to bother to use spellcheak.

c4p0ne, if you want a program thats centrally managed to control network traffic.. NETLIMITER is NOT for you,... its not what its designed for.. theres lots of other apps out there that can be centrally managed to control computers access on a network to the internet but NetLimiter is designed to control individual applications on one machine.. like.. limit torrents when using usenet.. etc.. not to manage flow of a network..

for what its meant to do its fantastic..

c4p0ne

c4p0ne reviewed v2.0.10 on May 3, 2007

Can this thing be centrally managed? Got over 200 machines here that need some kind of bandwidth regulation. Unfortunately the g**lords at our Greek ISP won't let us access the Router (Cisco 1800 series which has all this sh*t built into it) so we're stuck with trying to use dumb software-based solutions.

If it's not centrally managed. Its useless.

Oh well, back to 1.30.

Nice. I have a DGL-4300 router which I use to set pri on certain traffic (and degrade not so important traffic). This pprogram fills in the holes, it is so easy to adjust bandwith in real time.

I have not really looked into all new stuff (from 1.x) I mainly use it to limit my upload speed for certain apps. Works great. A must for anyone who consumes much bandwidth an whishes to have total control of how things work on the network.

- Open it still slow to load.

Again. Great applipcation.

Not tried the alpha 5 yet but got 20.3a had the 1.25 and the 091b3 nice peice of software for peer 2 peer NTL very kindly gave me 1mb d/l for £18/month but there u/l speed was knocked down to 10000bits makes me feel like a right cheepskate here in the UK. But netlimitter stops me from gettin swamped with my upload, i hope they put the meter back on nl205 the earlier nl looked nicer. I use the firewall as well and got rid of sygate so far its doing great.

TerryHau

Should really forget about the firewall thing.
Just stick with what netlimiter is good for, speed limiting. Instead of trying to bloat it up with all this extra stuff.

funky303

funky303 reviewed v2.0 Alpha 3 on May 2, 2005

@ c4p0ne

just buy yourself a old computer, install a proxy and you don't have to do it on all your machines.
the program itself really does what it should, i wouldn't want a program like this to be installed on my machine, without myself beeing able to control it

that other mentioned tool from DU is worthless for the purpose NetLimiter offers: SPeed Limits for each application.

since it is shareware and not yet stable (i know, alpha not yet even beta) it gets a 4 out of 5

c4p0ne

c4p0ne reviewed v2.0 Alpha 1 on Mar 5, 2005

What we need is a program that manages upload/download just like this one but that can be PASSWORDED and HIDDEN from the user (no icon). The process has to be protected too so that it cannot be terminated without a password, sort of like Kaspersky Antivirus Personal. In addition, the holy-grail would be CENTRAL MANAGEMENT!!!! When I say central management I mean you should be able to log in and CHANGE the filters in REAL-TIME to MORE then one machine. Say you have 60 boxes, I would like to send a "mass command" to ALL 60 boxes at 2:30pm to limit downloads to 60Kbps for kazaa.exe, emule.exe etc... THAT would allow me to purchase this software without just simply cracking or keygenning it.

Haven't actually used it so gave it a 4 cause that seems to be the average. But I wanted to mention that there is another program that has been around for quite a while (dunno about this one) called DU Super Controler (yes it's one l) that has, in my opinion, a much better interface. And it never popped up a million dialogs asking about every connection.

pvolk

pvolk reviewed v2.0 Alpha 1 on Mar 4, 2005

Wow this program SUCKS. I have a server running emule and BitCommet but im using a cable modem so my upload is really limited. This looked like the perfect program, boy was i wrong. All i wanted to do was set a time period in the middle of the night where the upload would be unlimited but during the day i wanted it limited so that my housemaes could still browse the net and stuff. So i install the program and begin to use it and the first thing it does is popup these boxes EVERY SINGLE FRIGGIN TIME my computer makes contact with an outside IP and with BitComet and Emule thats ALOT of connections, so after clicking "allow" about a thousand times i tried to disable the (ultimately pointless) firewall on the program but there arent any options...oh well. Then the stupid thing doesnt even let me setup a time schedule...but it doesnt matter since that FU**ING firewall wouldnt stop popping up and halting all my network traffic.

Hey, its a cool idea for a program but the execution of it just SUCKS SO BAD! Plus you gotta pay for it...what a joke. If you want a firewall get Zone Alarm but stay away from this trash!

I'm using this application to control the way my bandwidth is used. Very useful if you for example want to play a game while downloading something. You can limt the amount of bandwidth given on a per-application or per-ip basis. I also use this to limit my upload so my download doesn't get choked. Especially useful if you have ADSL (or any other asynchronous internet connection).

Very easy to use. Recommended!

This is a very useful and functional program. It's especially useful for using P2P networks that don't allow clients with bandwidth limiters.

On the negative side, port forwarding doesn't seem to work anymore... so I have to make passive connections while using NetLimiter! Also, it's connection speed calulations are slow/off quite a bit. It also sucks that this program is shareware. Hopefully, some freeware developers will code similar programs. This is the kind of program I've always hoped for.
