Absolutely the best file defragmentation program, the only one of its kind that doesn't use WinNT defragmentation API which leaves thousands of holes in filesystem, because it moves files in 16K chunks. With Vopt you can defrag your FS once per half a year, with other defragmentators you have to do that constantly (say every week or every day).

The only missing feature is offline defragmentation of system files like $MFT and others.

vopt became a dinosaur and can't compete with "perfect disk" or "O&O".
still rate it "3" for some of it's useful features.

Lightweight, fast and good enough. Uses minimal resources when compared to PerfectDisk and Diskeeper and the choice of advanced and new users alike. Unlike PD, DK and OO, absolutely no dependency issues to deal with on heavily stripped and nLited systems. Multiple defragmentation sessions per day are not uncommon. Highly recommended.

I like this program, and have used it for years. However, the 8.20 version keeps shutting down whenever I start a Defrag on my Vista OS computer. I've sent an E-mail to Goldenbow telling them this. I've rolled back to 8.18 in the meantime which works great.

Vopt is good enough for newbies (some of them outthere will allways remain newbie), DiskDefrag and O&O defrag has more to offer

ninjeratu, with Vopt8 you can still exclude files larger than x. Just go to the Tools Menu > Settings > Exclusions > Exclusion by size.

I am using Vopt for ages right now and well, I still have to get used to version 8, because I've used Vopt7 for a while.

Still, I like Vopt8 more than version 7, although ninjeratu is right about the useless options added to this version.

VoptXP 7.xx was great. Quick and with one of the best options available for defraggers .. "do not defragment files larger than X MB".

Both are gone in version 8 and we get a really messy and confusing non-standard UI, slower defragmentation, works in Vista and .. well .. Actually nothing else compared to version 7 except some more "clean-up" options which are essentially useless. They obviously didn't know what to improve or change for the better so they did like many other companies have done: They make an inferiour product with more "features" and an "improved" GUI - just to sell.

Unfortunately Vopt8 is still faster than most defraggers out there and has a rather smallish footprint, but .. It's still a disaster.
Get 7.xx for those quick and easy defrags and avoid this.

Vopt was THE defragger to have when DOS was all we had. It was extremely fast and feature rich when compared to other programs of the era. Now, the tables have been turned and Vopt looks old and tired compared to all else that is out there. Even the built-in Windows defragger is better than Vopt now. And they want $40 for it? Ridiculous!

Small, fast and powerful. Very good program. :)

Without question, the best defragger. VoptXp is FAST and very thorough. I especially like it's pagefile/swapfile optimization feature.

Try it and see its power for yourself.
