Just an FYI in that persons post (screen name of jasinwa) I am not sure u realizes the ip of 127.0.0.1 is the ip for loopback, not an actual outside site.

Very good, adn easy to use. My big complain is more with the memory consumption of Java than with the way Zoe worked.
I would probably keep using it if the javaw.exe didn't suck up 31MB and then my browser another 10-20mb (depending on which I use).
But GREAT program still!

I've checked this program since first appearance. I never had problems with setup. Just start with your javaw.exe (if .jar isn't set to be executed automatically). Allow Zoë! to access it's ports in your firewall. Well I have to admit: this is not a good choice for someone needing an easier Maillapp than his/her Outlook Express. If you have probs with that, you'll definatly have them with Zoë! And it will not look like the standardmailapps. But if you want googlelike search for your mail...take your time (yes 10 minutes is a little short for a first view...who would have thought...and you shouldn't have DL'ed the sourcefile...and blame the program for you beeing...hasty.) And guess what. I like the program, setup a mailacount in 5 mins, but I stay with my Mozillamail. Thats because I don't need Zoë! stuff, but I know people crying because someone made the program of their desire. As ever: I give a program 5 stars if I have tested(!) it and it does what it claims to do.

Technicalities: You'll need a JRE (Java Runtime Environment) to run this application. If you don't have one (or if you only have the crap from Microsoft): Download one from java.com. Install. Restart Windows.
Note: The low (to me unfair) rating of Zoë is based on the fact that most reviewers have not known how to run Zoë. Most (if any) are not actual reviews of the application itself.
Review: Now then, at this early stage of development Zoë is hardly useful at all - yet capable of getting, displaying and searching e-mail. What gets me is the ingenuity of the author and the uniqueness of the application. I'm quite certain, with time, Zoë will turn into a truly fascinating and useful application.

downloaded the tar file, and there wasn't any .jar file to be found... did i miss something or are they just releasing a bad tgz? at any rate, wasted 10minutes of my time... so rating 1.

Still gives me a "no page to display" message...thinking the port was an error, I tried it as http://127.0.0.1:1080/

I had to actually read the "readme" file to get this thing to work and once I did it was slow and buggy. In fact the whole time I was using it I was scratching my head as to why someone would go to all the trouble to write this thing as there are so many other e-mail programs out there that are much faster and easier to use. All I can figure is it must be a student learning Java???

The program "installs" just fine, no problems whatsoever, as all you do is unzip it to directory of your choice. Running the program is fairly simple, it worked for me, to just double click on the .jar file. Opens a webpage, fairly nice layout, however from there is where the fun begins. It says to follow the onscreen instructions, however, when it first starts out, you are just looking at the basic interface. Took a few clicks, before finding out its ZOE that you click on to set it up. Setup was easy to add an account, almost all settings are covered, although I would like to see a check box for logging into your incoming server before sending mail, as some servers require this. Also, errors that happen, would be nice to see a more in depth error than what it shows. Also, perhaps some better documentation, or a more in depth readme. Definate potential though.

I can't get this to run under WinXP Pro SP1 w/ Java 1.4.0. I ran the Zoe.jar file and just got an error that "http://127.0.0.1:10080/" cannot be found. I typed it into the browser by hand as it suggested in the FAQ, but it's apparently not running at that port. Anyone had any luck under WinXP?

Is this platform specific? I see it's a java based app, and the tar file (from their site) extracts to a bunch of jar files, but how does one install it? In what browser (Mozilla/Netscape 7)? The screen caps show it running on a mac. I dunno.
